I believe so. But you never know these days what kids are thinking. IMO the relationship with the coach(es) is more important than the school these days. You can play anywhere and get noticed or drafted high. Look at North Carolina.

I agree and hope Lewis feels that way too.

Issue now is NIL and how important that is to him.  I doubt we would be the highest bidder.

just watched this episode and it is not the most flattering picture of this recruitment.

Basically said he is a very good player but his handlers are making all of his decisions for him. One said what he heard we paid him is astronomical and is way touch for him. I am afraid that things like this will kill the locker room because we are buying our roster and not constructing the roster.

What all these players are making would be considered astronomical to us peons.  Whether or not it is overpaying is subjective

I dont mean to get into semantics, but it's a bit different. He didnt decline a meeting. He had one set up for after the off period, which means he did have interest. I'm pretty sure he just found another team. I think he has a top three right now.

I think the hope is that he setup the meeting thinking we were keeping the same offense and going to run a big man next to reneau again.

And then he cancelled it when finding out Woodson is changing things up and we really only have a backup center spot available.

Who do you have starting in front of him? Or do you know something about another player better yet to be named?

    Probably hoping Mgbako stays.

If Mgbako stays and both start with Reneau (who isn't sitting), then you have a decision to make between protecting the rim with a center like Ware (or poor man's version more likely) and having a huge lineup or hoping those 3 can be enough size and put them with 2 guards.

hopefully this one gets wrapped up soon if it hasn't already been wrapped up behind the public's eye.  Need to move onto the next domino, can't wait too long with the number of holes needing to be filled.

he's a low end 5 star / high end 4 star.  We would probably wait for as long as we have a chance.

Plus, they can go after the other dominos before he decides.

Sorry i just don't agree.  I don't buy into Coach Woodson is some great developer of talent.  I just don't.  Not going to change my mind which is why i don't usually post much about.  And this will be the last time i do.  thanks for the response, i will see my way out of this thread and conversation.

I think Woodson's system is just good for big men and equally bad for guards.    If our team is good at one thing, it is feeding the post players.

Hard to say how much development was done by staff but they definitely gave him the opportunity.

  7. Hopefully he decides to stay and he plays the 4 this coming season.  The big issue with that is how crappy our interior defense would be with MR at the 5 and MG at the 4.  But if you keep them at 3 and 4 and bring in another 5, then we are right back where we were this past year...crappy.

If MG leaves, then I would have MR shooting 3s all summer and in his sleep.  Whatever you can do to turn him into an outside threat.

If MG returns, then I would have MR figuring out how to be an undersized rim protector without fouling as much.

Basically MR is going to have to move one way or the other instead of stuck in between positions.

There is a real chance Calipari becomes available. It would be malpractice not to pursue him.

Calimari is an average coach that used to be able to have a major advantage by buying players before NIL was a thing.

Now that everyone is openly buying players, he lost his advantage.

If we want the one coach that can do less than Woodson with more talent, then cal is the guy.

Personally I would rather someone get more out of the team than the sum of their parts.

Even though Ware had a slightly higher average, Malik was probably our best option when we really needed a bucket, so why throw it out to a guard who was likely going to miss. If we get a couple of elite guards who are knock down shooters, then I think he’ll be a willing passer when he’s double teamed. And if they’re really good, he won’t be doubled team as often.

Because if you threw it out enough to the guards and they actually were a threat, then opposing teams would be less likely to double team in the first place.

You will never have a good offense overall playing 2 or 3 on 5

Does he play through too many double teams, probably. However, he shot 56%, so he finished a lot of those. He was second on the team in total assists, and was basically tied with a 6th year PG for assists/game. He was smart for mostly passing to Ware, who is an excellent finisher. Who else do you pass too? Mgbako, Cupps and Gunn, on the season shot under 40% overall. Ware and Reneau shot a higher % from three than Mgbako and Gallo. Ware and Reneau both attempted more threes than Cupps, who was afraid to shoot.

His big thing is staying out of foul trouble and getting better rebounding position.

You are bound to get more assists when you get the ball on most plays.    Still way too many times where he would force the issue, get fouled and then go 1 of 2 from the line.  Those misses don't count against his fg% due to the foul.  Turning it over also doesn't count against his FG%

I'm not saying he was bad on offense and part of it is also Woodson's crappy offense system that feeds the post while having the outside players sitting around doing nothing to get themselves open.

Can't believe anyone would think Reneau coming back is a bad thing. If he improves as much this off season than he did last off season he will be an all big ten player.

The only bad thing is it requires us to have 2 post players since he can't rebound or protect the rim very well.   And most of us are well over watching buddy ball in the post.

MR is a good player on offense but somewhat of a black hole.  Hopefully he works on his free throws, rebounding and ability to defend without fouling.

so i posted in the transfer portal thread about the top guys according to 247.  why do i not see those names on here?  we already know where they are going?  i just figured we have this huge amount of money and assurance that Woodson will have all the resources to bring in a new team, so we should be in on Garrison, McDaniel, Porter, etc.  right?

We are waiting for their moms to contact woodson.

PS. We should be sending mgbako's mom a cake for thinking of us or we may have had a losing season this year.
