    That's true...

But there are also the criticisms of Woody that have been proven to be BS...Remember the "mass exodus?" The "what guard would want to play in his offense?" "The players all hate him?"

The people that tried to pass those fairy tales will never own up...

And I'm not looking for any victory lap over all this...As you said, let's see the product on the floor...

But I can already here the excuses if we look good...

The whole "victory lap" thing is being blown out of proportion especially relative to the number of people who have been critical of the program and Woody on a daily basis starting in January/Feb.  Most aren't saying "We"re back" or "I told you so". Most people understand it's about success on the floor. That being said, you can be critical of Woody or whatever and enjoy things about the program too, including the new guys being brought in by "donors".

Well-- ok...how about "a little more athletic version of Durr"--- because that player, IMO, is there in bunches in the portal.

The kid from Ole Miss (Moussa?) and there is one from Harvard. There have been others listed.

I agree otherwise we could have just rolled with Sparks again. They seem like similar types of players. Decent offense and rebounding, not athletic, not good FT shooters. I'd rather just have an all defensive type guy. But I also don't know who's interested.

    I agree.

But.. we have more money to spend, too. Find a rim protector, the more athletic version of Durr is fine. I will say-- I wish there was a continued stat of "altered shot rate" whatever, the same as we have block rate.

Edey's block rate wasn't great for 7'4-- but I bet he altered a ton of shots.

I agree but wouldn't the more athletic version of Durr be a really good player?

I'll disagree with one thing he said:

Well, maybe it was just me and DeBoer, but from the 2nd or 3rd game Penix was on the field, I kept saying to myself "This kid isn't just good....this is Heisman good".  Turns out in the end, I wasn't far off.

Hated to lose him, but I realized it was a Mo Creek type situation.....just so many injuries over time and needed a change of scenery.

Some guys have the arm talent that is hard to ignore. He had that in spades. When he and Fields went at it, he had the more natural arm.

I think that was mostly a product of swinging for the fences and missing.  No question, IU tried to get more guards last year, but the candidates they offered went elsewhere and by the time that all played out, there wasn't much left to get.  I'm guessing less than Leal and Cupps level players at that point.

Banks and Gunn, I think the staff had much greater expectations that never panned out.  I kept hearing how great those two looked in practice and yet, it never translated on the floor.  Had those two made a nice soph jump, we likely wouldn't be having this conversation and probably make the dance.

On using the 13th scholarship, I wouldn't unless it's an upgrade.  If Anthony Leal is IU's floor, that's a danged good roster.  He's more than capable of shooting from distance and playing fundamental basketball.  Keep that last one for the MgBako that falls in your lap late.

But this exactly when you should use it on the portal one year guy from a lower level program. Someone with some experience, they didn't have to be great, but at least seasoned. Easier said than done maybe, but you have X and Cupps as PGs. That's a bit risky imho.

We can argue about it til the cows come home, but in my eyes, it was nothing more than another thing to criticize Woodson about...

A 13th kid on the roster, especially one that we could have gotten in the time frame that we had, wasn't going to make a difference to our season...

That's pretty much the main thing I have said about Woody this entire season. And not playing more small ball at times. But that was the catch 22. He didn't have the guard talent/depth to do it.
