My issue was after you evaluated Cupps, Gunn, Leal, and Banks... then knew Newton wasn't playing this year--- you still didn't fill the scholly. That's stupid.
And it's optics more than anything else.
Of all the flak Woody took this year, the most deserved was not using that scholarship. X hadn't been healthy or played much, so it was silly not to bring in another experienced guard.

I absolutely believe it. The person it is coming from is very reputable and doesn’t just post to post or stir the pot. Tyme has alluded to it recently as well.
I thought that was all about Goode though.

We were 13 pre-season in the AP and 14 from the coaches.
AP had us ranked all but 3 weeks of the year.
That's not top 10-12.

Never saw it. I’m a huge believer that the college game is a guards game. And we haven’t had the guards necessary since Yogi, which means the Crean era. Just one man’s opinion and philosophy on basketball.
X was too inconsistent in his play for my liking to consider IU a top 10-12 team. Also the lack of shooting and true post size. TJD was great but undersized. Saw that vs Arizona for sure.
I would say they were a consensus top "teen" or 20. I don't think top 10. That would have been a stretch. And I would agree. Basketball is always about guard play and we haven't had a lot of those the past few seasons.

The rumors are flying. Any intel?
Where are they flying? I have only seen a couple of vague insinuations. He played 20 mins a game for IL. Will likely get more minutes next year. Trying to figure out why he would come to IU unless he's really unhappy.

It’s all Goode
He's not even in the portal though right? Is this a legit option?

We gotta find some bench bigs. Another 3/4 tweener and a rebounder/paint defender, at least.
One of the two will have to come here on pure faith they'll get to play some. $$$$
I like what's going on.

Great get for IU. I think we'll have one of the most dynamic back courts in the Big 10 next year...
I would say the front court will be pretty formidable as well.

Honestly, I'd prefer Power over Essegian at this point anyway.
Me too. He took 51 shots, 42 were threes, made 15 so 35.7%. Works for me with a much higher volume. I don't care what position the threes come from, just take and make more.

And by "coaching malfeasance", you mean Teflon John being an idiot, right?

Cauley-Stein, both Harrisons, Lyles, Ulis, Booker, KAT, Dakari Johnson, Alex Poythress and Marcus Lee all averaged 10+ MPG, but Poythress went down early in the season and Lee was dinged up most of the year.
And it worked, that was the year they were undefeated until they lost to Wisky in the FF.
One of the only times Wisconsin has ever been useful. 😂
Yet someone questioned my suggestion (not here I don't think) that Calipari is a mediocre coach. The talent he was bringing in year-in-year-out at UK I could probably do as well as he did.

Only thing that confused me about this individual... why did he only play like 22-25 mins per game?
Looks like they had a lot of blow outs: https://gclancers.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
This dude was super efficient. Seems like a no brainer to me if he wants in: https://gclancers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/elijah-malone/4798- 1

not comparing him to sparks but i just worry after seeing what sparks had to offer while playing well at Ball St then coming to the Big Ten he flopped. Time will tell. Certainly has upside
This guy seems a bit more fleet of foot than Sparks and is shooting threes. I say bring it.

Elijah Malone next? 2 bigs in a row?
I hope we get a guard before then, just so we don't have to read post after post of "we need shooters" or complaints about the double post etc.

Not sure I would include Mgbako in that comparison. He would have had his scholarship regardless of McNeeley.
Rice is probably better than Fland in the short term but hard to say long term.
Ballo is better than Queen but only have him for a year.
Tucker is supposedly not as good shooting from outside but probably a better defender.
We did pretty good after losing out on all the recruits we thought could get.
Seems like the initial post wasn't really that all those guys were better, more like they were "replaced" by?

No offense, but I think the comment about efficiency is common sense. However, your ceiling is limited if you don’t have shooters. We’ve seen and complained about this game for how many years now? If the argument is that guys like MM, Carlyle, and Rice will improve enough to raise our ceiling, fair enough, but I think that’s a risky proposition. Sure would be nice to secure a sharp shooter that can benefit from guys that are able to attack and distribute the basketball. Otherwise teams will pack the paint and say good luck.
I agree with this, but until the roster is set and the scholarships are filled, we can't yet say we don't have any shooters. Upgrading overall talent seems to be the first and necessary step.

It was done before he was even on campus. Same with Rice. And apparently same w/ Carlyle. Money talks.
Except with Hickman.

Indy lawyer friend told me it is
3.3 is a bargain
in a couple years that’s one player
honestly don’t know why you’d spend 700K on a 5 star freshman who has proven nothing if AJ Storr is basically the same price
I don't think many teams are going to do this going forward precisely because of the situation you are describing. Why spend on the unknown.

People are overreacting because we need shooters and one that they were told was coming here just committed to Cincinnati. So we still don’t have a shooter correct, going on how many years? Ballo alone doesn’t fix any problems, and I’m not of the opinion that Carlyle does either.
This team had more than a shooting problem. And having two guys like this on our team would improve our team a lot.

But they did know X was coming off a season where he missed significant time. And had missed a lot of time the season before. It was pretty dumb not to have another PG or at least another Combo guard.
