  1. But he's the best PG we have and when he's playing well, we're a way better team.
  2. Knight is dead. This didn't work out. The guys that played for IU 40 to 50 years ago, should have no say in the future of the program. The game has totally changed. Nothing they did back then is relevant any more. Dolson is exposed here. If you recall the search, he went into his basement for a week and came out with Woodson. His strength was his relationships with players. I guess that goes out the window when loses pile up.
  3. The situation is very similar to Allen. They have a head coach who doesn't know how to run a program day in day out. It's not his fault, same as it wasn't Allen's. Neither has the skillset or background to do what it takes in modern college sports to be the head guy. It's not just showing up to practices or yelling at or loving guys etc. You have to know how to work the system and hire the right people to make the machine hum. You really are the CEO not just "Coach". It's a different mind and skill set. And really Woody should have known this. He should have offered to be an assistant or taken a Matta role for a younger coach. He's ego got in the way. Also, whomever's mucking up the process (Buckner, Whitman etc) needs to get out of the AD's way and let him pick a guy who doesn't come with strings attached or forced assistants or connections to this guy or IU or whatever. That stuff is dumb and only works if there is a solid foundation to pass the torch. IU has not had that at all. I just feel bad for the players. They seem like good guys and this season isn't even over. They (in a "dream" world) could still win 20 games. They didn't muck up the roster or recruiting etc. I think the fans should show up for them, not to boo Woody. Also, I have to tap out for a while. #GoHoosiers.
  4. Here's some hope, the "he'll be back" source was just that, sources. Not Dolson, not a real announcement. I just don't think any sort of real decision has been made hence why it came from "sources" and not anyone specifically. There's some hope. I am not a "fire the coach" kind of guy, but it was time to get rid of Allen, and it's time to move on from Woody. Not because of his "style of play", for me it's the obvious issue his ego and lack of college experience has caught up with him. He really mucked up the roster, recruiting and the schedule.
  5. But he wasn't going to get fired during the season. It just wasn't going to happen to an IU legend. Another reason why it's never a great idea to hire a former legend with no college/recruiting experience. If and when it goes bad, it's going to be harder to just "fire" him.
  6. Yeah, as much as anything this is the biggest problem this year. No reason not to bring in a mid major guard(s).
  7. Sleepy Mike and the entire staff, no? If the rumors are true, then everyone on the staff is to blame.
  8. I agree with this, but McNeeley really screwed us regardless of the reasoning. Not necessarily "blaming" him, but the timing couldn't be worse. More of an overall tangent: I also think our fans are a bit delusional. Knight made IU great not the other way around. When his coaching style became passé the program slowly lost it's prestige. The last really good coach we had was Sampson. Since then we've hired marginal to mediocre, to whatever happened to Archie coaches. The recruiting strategy has been especially poor as well when compared to a school like PU (the strategy IU should have been doing for the past 20 years). And it seems like quality of coaching candidates gets worse every year. Overall point, the expectations are a bit out of whack with where the program is today. Woody isn't and never was the long term answer. The hope was he could get the program in a good position to hand it off. This season for a number of reasons, has not gone well. But in reality it's about 2-3 wins away from accomplishing what Woody only needed to do, keep it in a net positive position. He made a lot of mistakes this year. But Pearl or whomever might make some mistakes too. We can't light the torches every time a season starts to go sideways regardless of the coach or players. That being said, it's nearly impossible to bring him back if everyone leaves. The next few weeks will be wild.
  9. I would say our lack of guards was even worse. Same style, worse guard play.
  10. They've also been good for the past 25 years. We haven't been. So play for a good program with crazy fans or a mediocre program with crazy fans?
  11. Neither does the style of play excuse make sense either though. It's the same style we've been playing.
  12. Fans that don't think what they do and say impact players, coaches, and recruits are being hypocritical though. The same fervor that makes them great goes the other way too. BTW, I don't think he decommitted because of the fans.
  13. Yeah, I meant to mention Rabby too. But it sounds like insiders are just piggybacking of each other with the tidbits as all three have been saying similar stuff for the most part, not saying it's not true, just interesting. I think at this point it's getting a bit too political and boring for me. It's turning into finger pointing and people with axes to grind quite honestly. I don't really want to comb through a bunch of complaints about QB and the administration and their political beliefs etc. I am sure there's some truth to it, where there is money and power there's always conflicts, but this just seems like a bunch a finger pointing and very representative of the political landscape of today. We have to blame someone for this, now it's QB's turn. Before it was Glass, before then this President and that President and so on and so forth. One thing too, is IU fans want coaches (rightly or wrongly) fired for disappointing seasons, but then some want these kids and coaches to be squeaky clean even though the world of sports is pretty shady and always has been. At some point, if you want to win, you can't cross off every box that you think CBK did or whatever other program with think IUBB should be. I am not saying you hire a guy like Beard, but you can't always get the perfect candidate and IUBB hasn't been consistently good in a very long time.
  14. So if I am reading all of this correct, either Chris on BTB or Trilly are the main source for every one of these rumors? So one is getting their information from the other or they are getting their info from the same person? I say this because they've both been basically saying the same things at the same time. And if all this Buckner stuff is true, then Dolson and the President need to get together and say, sorry Quinn, we hired Scott to make these decisions. I might be a simpleton here, but that doesn't seem like that would be "out of line".
  15. Could be, maybe not if what is being said is true at all. I'm sure at some point if X wasn't going to be healthy enough to play he could have tried to get a medical waiver. But regardless, I think you get the overall point. Woody being on the hot seat isn't just about this season's drop.
  16. I agree and I am not a huge fan of "fire the coach" threads and hashtags, but he wasn't a great hire because of this. NBA guys don't grind like college guys do. He's making $4 million and enjoying life more than an average college coach. It seems he is definitely blowing off recruiting. But the administration kind of has an issue. His results have been "okay" until this year. But he was mainly rolling with TJD in the first two years. If he gets to 17 to 18 wins, it's going to be a tougher call than what we think. If they have a guy lined up (like Pearl) then that is one thing. That would be a power move. If they do a search and come out with mediocre candidate like the guys in the running last time then we are just rolling like the Bears/IU Football. Fire the coach every few years but never get better.
  17. I had read the same info as mentioned and summarized like this: Skipping recruiting days over the last 3 years. Recruits hearing from other HC more than Woodson. Needs major help from the portal to overhaul a roster. Choosing to pursue "ready-made" players instead of recruiting and developing HS kids Woodson publicly stating 2 point shots are good while having one of the worst 3 point rates 3 years in a row. HS, AAU, and other coaches/trainers have heard very little from a certain HC over the course of 3 years. It's March of year 3. It took until Feb. for Woodson to go see Sisley and Mullins, two of the top in-state prospects and he didn't see Mullins in a game until the sectional semifinals. Told Boogie Fland "Boogie, again, I cannot promise you minutes because I am anticipating that Xavier Johnson may be getting a seventh year..." I am literally just reposting what was posted on BTB and based on what Rabby has been posting.
  18. I agree. And I am not sticking up for Woody. He was a reach hire to begin with (zero college experience) and most thought a stopgap. PU has had some "down" years in 2012 to 2015 and had a crap year in 2020. I am not saying Woody shouldn't be let go either, but at some point good coaches have down years, and IU has been mediocre for a long time, so it' not super surprising we're having a down year now. Woody did screw up this roster and if what you read about recruiting is true, he doesn't seem like any sort of grinder and you definitely need that nowadays. Hopefully things work out for the best regardless.
  19. Maybe, but the "bullshit" seemed pretty bad.
  20. Who was? Exactly. I don't think anyone was "excited" by the hire but more ok with it because there seemed to be some semblance of a plan and structure. I also never thought he'd be here more than 6 years tops tbh. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  21. That's not entirely true. My brother's daughter didn't get in from out of state and she was accepted to PSU and a dozen other schools just as good as IU. Seems like you are not a big fan of the school?
  22. I drink. Not once have I berated college students at a dorm or been accused of beating up anyone let a lone a woman. She could be nuts, seems like she might have been, so maybe it's not a good idea/decision to hangout with her if you are a high profile college coach making millions of dollars.
  23. And Wilson never got arrested for drinking, doesn't mean there weren't a lot of warning signs about potential issues. I just think hiring him would be a different type of risk. Imagine recruiting kids mom's and having to explain what happened. If I was a parent, I would want to know what happened with full details.
  24. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-basketball/news/chris-beard-arrest-charge-texas-basketball-coach/ol2lywzuphmjr7ixzfamteim "Beard told police that he has audio recordings showing he was not the primary aggressor. He was asked if he would be willing to share those audio recordings to which he said 'no.'" I assume those recordings would not be great for him either. This was a pretty ugly situation and even if she was the aggressor, seems like he might have some decision making issues. As I recall, she was rather notorious which leads me to believe he probably dug his own grave by merely being in this relationship. If you're a high profile anything, you have to be a little bit more selective in the relationships and friends you keep otherwise stuff like this is likely to happen.
  25. Sorry, I had to laugh. It was pretty apparent that CBK was going to struggle with the new generation of kids.
