  1. Smith is “good enough” but my guess is he’d get lost on the roster much like Leal is now. When you’ve got 6 competent guys at the guard position on your team, it’s a very fine line between starter and garbage time only. I’d like to see a larger sample size on Smith before anointing him “Brad_Davison2.0”
  2. Edey won you that game. Marquette’s guards already don’t play any sort of competent defense. You mix that with the constant sagging/swarming of Edey every time the ball got into the lane, it was mostly shooting practice for Smith. Hey played well and took what MU generously gave him but that won’t be a recipe for success against better teams, especially those who have guys who can check Edey. I’m shocked to see how uninvolved Gillis, Furst and Kaufman have been thus far. Painter needs to get them going quickly.
  3. They look already good, just not JHS and MR good…very impressive in a small sample size. This is as deep of a roster as I can remember.
  4. Getting personal/demeaning regarding where teenage boys decide to go to school is always a bad look and Purdue and IU fans on these sites alike are at times guilty of this. It’s creepy and inappropriate at best, boarder-line criminal at worst. I won’t criticize this lady for her comment because having to read the awful things about her son online is something I thankfully haven’t had to endure. Rather than call her crazy for her response perhaps some reflection on what would drive her to such public comments is in order. All fan bases are guilty of it and it’s sad. This is a game played by kids, more people need to act accordingly
  5. ARE is the WR coach for the Lions. I’d hire him in a heartbeat
  6. We wouldn’t win that game now. CTA has lost this team. Kicking field goals is about the only thing this team does well.
  7. Last year our defense gave up 33 points per game. Thank God Allen ran that DC outta town and took over the defensive play calling to get that figure down to 32.
  8. Basketball season can’t start fast enough
  9. All they can do is run the ball, their All American OL is at home and we cant put guys in the right spots on the field and control the line of scrimmage. This is embarrassing
  10. Never seen this much press box chatter about a fired OL Coach in my life
  11. How many kickoff return yards are we gonna give up before we start booting the damn ball through the endzone???
  12. Love the catch but is that really the look Bazelak is looking to throw into?
  13. IU always has a guy that similar things are said about in the offseason and it doesn’t necessarily pan out that way. Lots of different factors play into it like who’s the kid going up against in practice? Is he a gamer or the type that plays lights out in practice but doesn’t find rhythm during games/gets nervous on the big stage? Will he actually get the minutes necessary to showcase his talents? I certainly don’t doubt Painter’s ability to take an undervalued kid and make him into a solid contributor but I take offseason analysis with a grain of salt. If the kid can play PG at this level with any sort of success as a freshman it would be a huge win for Purdue
  14. Couldn’t agree more. If Bates is indeed much improved/more focused as has been advertised, that’s basically a new addition in of itself to go with JHS & Malik. An improved Geronimo would be an absolute X factor. If Kopp gets his stroke back it’s a game changer. IU had so many pieces last year that were young or just uncharacteristically under performed causing TJD and XJ to press and take matters into their own hands in critical situations. If this team isn’t drastically different this year it would be such a let down. I can’t see that happening. I can’t think of another program that brought back as much talent while adding as much talent as IU has.
  15. Clown move your part to double/triple down on a terrible, nonsensical take and call DMC a liar. He goes into graphic detail that he had been offered multiple ncaa jobs every single year, and turned them all down because he wasn’t interested in an opportunity that didn’t give him responsibility and experience outside of the RB room. He said it himself, if he was going to be just a RB coach, he wouldn’t have left the Chiefs. Furthermore, insisting (with no actual information, access to the situation) that DMC would throw away the opportunity to coach his sons at IU, live in his own house with his family, and watch his sons’s last high school games (who’ was set to join you in Bloomington next year) to take one of the lowest profile jobs at ND, working under a first time head coach that he’s likely just as qualified as, is as bad of a take as you can offer.
  16. You couldn’t be more wrong but I’ll let Deland, his Super Bowl trophy and his Emmy tell you why he left KC for Indiana and the role AHC had in his decision…again, leaving for ND had nothing to nothing to do with money and was being solely a college RB coach (which sadly for him, he now is) was never the plan. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/video/deland-mccullough-on-the-associate-head-coach-responsibilities/
  17. DMC publicly turned down the Giants (to become the highest paid RB coach in the NFL) and was the 5th highest paid RB coach in the country in the one year he came back. He conceded in an interview that the Giants offer was more than ND’s (and that’s all we know because his ND salary isn’t public) and reiterated his main goal to become a college head coach saying “success at ND would put me in a position to achieve that”. He gave up an AHC role to leave IU despite his stated goal. It tells you everything you need to know. This move had nothing to do about money.
  18. CTA let Deland M. walk over this issue. It cost us Daeh, may cost us Desan in the offseason and most importantly, cost us perhaps the best RB coach in the country who can recruit with the best of em. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to be moving on from Hiller but this “cost savings” initiative cost the program tenfold. .
  19. If they had the money to go out and get Craig Johnson they had $500k to buyout Hiller. I believe this to be nothing more than a cop out/lame excuse from CTA if true.
  20. DL is so awful but not dialing up pressure on that 3rd down is simply negligent. When has a soft zone ever worked for us?
  21. Since the OL (deservedly) is taking all the heat so far this season, thought I’d share something I hadn’t seen discussed. Our DL/DE (ex Bull) group doesn’t have a single player with 10+ total tackles. There are 12 IU defenders with 10+ tackles which means our backup LBs are all out performing the starting DL. As for TFL: Elliot, Sio Jackson & Robbins have combined for 2.5 (Tevis comes “off the bench” and has 2 himself). Sacks? Just two. I think I can guess why our DBs have been giving up so many big plays thus far and thus underperformed. If this doesn’t get turned around its going to be a long, painful rest of the season regardless of if our OL can make improvements. .
  22. Nice to see Hendershot get his first NFL catch
  23. I wish former players would speak out. CTA’s hand obviously needs to be forced on this issue or he won’t do anything about it. You can’t be a successful program without above average line play. You just can’t.
  24. CTA only gets softball questions during press conferences. I’ve never seen him grilled by a reporter or have to hold his staff accountable. Interestingly, Brohm does pretty regularly. He got ripped in his PC after the Syracuse loss, and rightfully so. It’d be nice if IU’s beat writers at least tried to extract meaningful information out of CTA.
