  1. Won’t speak for others but in my opinion, DM was the prize, his kids were an added bonus. I was excited from the jump because of who DM is, as a coach, person, leader, etc. Does Payne even still come now? What about the transfers he recruited? If they all jump ship we’ve got absolutely no RB room to speak of. Gonna be a tense few weeks seeing how this all plays out
  2. What an absolute gut punch. DM is the 5th highest paid RB coach in the nation and two of his sons (would soon to be 3) play on the team. Rival coaches are going to have an absolute field day with this in negative recruiting. I really hope this has nothing to do with Hiller and/or not giving DM the authority his AHC role was supported to bring. He was very vocal about why he took this job and it was because he wasn’t just an RB coach. It’ll be very telling if he’s not also named AHC at ND.
  3. I don’t disagree with you but trust has nothing to do with keeping your underproducing buddies on staff. If Hiller was a widely regarded, highly respected OL coach then toss my comments out the window. The fact is, he isn’t, I can’t even find his name mentioned with a postive around it. Being trusted is absolutely a qualifier but it can’t stop there. You need production you can trust in order to succeed. You can’t sacrifice one for the other or it will blow up in your face. If you’re willing to fire Sheridan/force out Warren but not Hiller, I think you’re sending the rest of your staff a message…”if you’re my buddy I’ll protect you no matter what, if not you’re the sacrificial lamb”. Assuming CTA really is spurning the AHC who left the KC Cheifs to come coach with you to do so, you’re screaming that message from the mountain tops.
  4. Kelly’s guaranteed salary is $9.5M plus incentives. If there’s something in his contract that says officially the base is $400k and the rest of the guaranteed comp is labeled something else for $9.1M then it’s semantics. Look, if you have actual info contrary to what I posted, please share. Otherwise I’m not interested in debating this with you. The fact that the ND job is relatively low paying has been discussed on PTI and coaching carousel discussions for a very long time.
  5. And soon Allen won’t be either if he doesn’t get the offensive side of the ball fixed. That starts with the OL. Another year like last year and he’s as good as gone. If you’re the boss you better surround yourself with top talent, not your friends…your friends will get you fired. If DM bails, it’s a horrible look…no other way to look at it.
  6. On the offense side of the ball I’d trust DM’s opinion far more than I’d trust Allen’s. He’s played/coached at the highest levels at that position his entire career. Allen has been involved on the offensive side of the ball for a handful of years and relied heavily on his OCs. An Associate HC & RB coach absolutely should have a say when it comes to the Offensive Line, coach and personnel. This is Allen’s program, I totally get that but Hiller is a weird position coach to draw a line in the sand for in this situation.
  7. If true, it’s obviously Hiller. His room was the least successful on the team last year considering their lack of injuries/transfers compared to others. I’m sure Hiller is a nice guy, and I don’t wish for people to lose their jobs but I haven’t seen so much as a single compliment for the job he’s don thus far. If Allen is willing to let DM walk to stick up for Hiller then he’s still not ready to be the head guy at a power 5 school. Also, if you’re gonna give a guy the “AHC” title it better carry weight otherwise it’s useless and a slap in the face when your concerns/positions are dismissed. Here’s to hoping this is all smoke, no fire or it can get fixed.
  8. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10019665-brian-kellys-full-lsu-contract-details-released-after-leaving-notre-dame.amp.html another article “confirming” $2.5M base. If you have better figures I’m all “ears”. Aside from that, RB coaches don’t get massive incentive bonuses. The RB coach at ND is simply not a higher paying opportunity than AHC/RB’s at IU
  9. https://www.onefootdown.com/platform/amp/2020/5/20/21264873/notre-dame-salaries-mike-brey-brian-kelly-muffet-mcgraw-jack-swarbrick-2018-2019-compensation-irs According to this it is. ND was letting Kelly seek compensation elsewhere so I know he was getting paid a large sum from Under Armor I believe. I’m sure there were incentives not listed here for making bowl games/playoffs etc. but that’s the only figure released.
  10. No clue. I’d be shocked if he was. There’s nothing out there confirming the interview. Just message board rumors and a couple local online articles saying DM should be a candidate
  11. Brian Kelly was only making $2M a year, potentially more with incentives. ND is notorious for not being a high paying gig given the prestige of the job. DM is not just our RB coach, he’s an Associate HC…doubt ND is offering that or beating his current salary.
  12. According to whom? ND gonna offer him AHC as well? I don’t believe this for a second, especially given the fact that ND doesn’t pay for sh*t for Head Coaches much less the RB gig and his son de committed from OSU to follow him saying “family over everything”. Would be a pretty ahole move of Deland to leave IU now all things considered.
  13. Feels like a while since Race has played
  14. Geronimo is going to be so, so good for us. Kid just works
  15. Some “fans” just had very unrealistic expectations for a guy coming in and playing with a new group and new coach. He was never as bad as some claimed and has a ton of potential to continue to get more familiar with his teammates and Woody. TJD is the best player on the team and X is the most valuable
  16. It always irratated the crap out of me as a player when I’d pick up helpside to cut off a driving player who got past his defender only to have my teammate stand and watch rather than pick up my guy. The only IU player I see who picks up TJD’s guy regularly is X, and he’s rarely getting beat by his guy in the first place. If TJD is going to keep coming off his man to block/divert shots at the rim his teammates have to do a much better job at blocking out his guy
  17. He’ll get there. He seems to lose his attention span sometimes but he’s not alone. Maryland isn’t a good outside shooting team but we’re giving them too many wide open looks.
  18. Bates needs to bring more effort and energy than this.
  19. I don’t disagree with you but that’s just how it’s called. Eventually someone will get hurt in a scrum and there will be some lame “point of emphasis” rule, like the hook and hold, put in. Until then, loose ball fouls will continue to be the most rare and inconsistent foul calls in the game.
  20. If that’s the case, then everytime a player dives into/onto another player trying to grab a loose ball or create a tie up would be a foul. Those never get called even when more a rugby scrum than a “basketball play”. As soon as Geronimo blocked the shot everything else was loose ball, incidental contact in my opinion
  21. Gotta be a pretty interesting backstory here. Wracks up all kinds of major offers in 2020, committs to LSU in early 2021, decommitts six months later and instead of looking to his impressive offer list he reaches out to IU & Florida Atlantic (who has 20 WRs on the roster) six months after that??? Recruiting is weird
  22. And we beat them with zero contributions & drastically less minutes from both Kopp and Stew despite TJD being on the bench. Can’t have it both ways.
  23. Great. So you agree with me that Kopp should get less minutes because Woody is already dialing back those minutes. Galloway having one bad game doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s more efficient than Kopp on offense and far and away a better defender. It’s not just about the offensive side of the ball either. Kopp & Stew consistently get beat on Defense. What I’m talking about, along with everyone else commenting/writing about it, is why stick with a starting lineup that consistently creates deficits only to go to the bench to get back in the game, rinse and repeat in the second half, next game, etc. Asserting that we’re somehow better off or TJD /Race play better by allowing opponents to get out to 1st Half leads and squander our leads at the beginning of each 2nd half every night out is just weird position to take.
  24. I don’t disagree with that long term but I also don’t think making an adjustment to the current lineup stunts our development of younger guys in his system. There’s nothing wrong with adjusting to your current strengths without abandoning the overall coaching philosophy.
