I wouldn't say he hasn't developed any players. I would say how he has worked with Ware has been good. Also TJD got more rounded once Woodson got here.

I know Reamer and agree with his comments today.  He got a ready made center that passed well and what not and could only make the tourney and an early exit.  TJD also worked a helluva a lot without Woodson and company with NBA trainers during the offseasons.  The best games IU played with TJD was where he was moving around, pick and rolls and him passing.  He doesn’t have that and most likely will never get that because most good programs that have that will keep it.  His problem is there is way too much standing around in our offense and he always goes back to the two bigs.  He’s brain dead.

If you look at players brought in this year, eh...

But Illinois has Shannon, Dainja, and Harmon along with Domask and Gurrier as transfers on their roster...

And UConn has Tristan Newton and Hassan Diarra as previous transfers as well ...

different years.  Not just in one.  Woodson wants ready made players because he can’t develop worth a damn.

The problem with boycotting a game is 1. You penalize the players and 2. They can spin it to us not having a great season.

Then you dont want change and continue giving the university what they want which is control.  They already control donors by their system.  The way people keeping their spots etc and make change is not to go because guess what they would lose money each game.  In addition if you are going you still can chant F Woodson and F Buckner and then also cheer for the kids.  This admin doesn’t deserve to be treated nice.  They screw with your money every year without consequences.

Illinois wasn't one of teams I mentioned

Maybe I just heard someone online say it my bad.

    Tennessee had Knecht and Gainey.

    Houston had Dunn and Cryer

    Purduw had Jones.

similar to what people have been saying the better teams have been using it to fill voices in their rosters.  The teams that add a lot typically fail.

To me in the pros you build through the draft and fill your needs in free agency. To me it is the same here because you build your roster with recruiting high school kids and fill your needs in the portal.

I am just going off the top of my head but looking at PU, Houston, UCONN and Tennessee who all could be 1 seeds.  How many 5 star players are on these rosters. I know Castle at UCONN is but I don't know if there are any others. Also how many portal guys did they bring in this year.

    UCONN had Spencer.

    Illinois had Domask and Guerrier.

    not many.

Indirectly, this actually gets at why I've been okay with Woodson potentially getting a year 4.

He's had two seasons of college basketball experience, and in both years it was easy to craft the narrative things were moving in the right direction. We got back to the tournament for the first time in five years. We followed that up by finishing second in the Big Ten and getting a four seed in the Tournament. In the last 30 years, back to when Knight was coaching Cheaney, only the '13 team had been seeded higher. Recruiting seemed promising, we were in on and landing five star talents. It would have been easy for Woodson to believe he was a successful college coach and had things rolling in the right direction.

This season all the cracks in the foundation were laid bare. Our struggles have exposed all the ways in which we don't play efficient basketball, and make the game harder for ourselves based on what we do and don't prioritize. There are certain skills missing from this year's roster, and our talent elsewhere wasn't enough to compensate.

All these issues can potentially be addressed in one offseaon. The portal allows Woodson to balance out the roster in a way that wasn't done last spring. Another year of experience at this level could make Woodson comfortable with players who won't play in the NBA, but can contribute to winning at the college level. If you want to play inside-out, go get playmakers and shooters to complement your frontcourt.

Lots of lessons to be learned from this season, for a coach who's willing to self-reflect. Is Woodson that guy? I think there's still a chance. There's an urgency and a need to do so now that wasn't present after his first two seasons. I'm okay with a year 4 because I want to see how Woodson responds to failure. If he truly can't recognize the ways in which he failed, then we have our answer. Maybe Dolson is already having those conversations, and knows a change of direction is needed. That's fine too. But as a fan on the outside, my response to a season like this isn't that it's a fireable offense; the fireable offense is allowing it to ever happen again.

We have a lot to change and the teams that make this many changes fail.  It’s not going to be easy.

There’s many reasons that Dolson wants to make a move. It has to with more than just the on court product

What? Coaches in the state think he is an idiot? He isn’t going to get guards good enough to win with his system? Laziness? I think it’s a pretty extensive list so far but is there something else?

No one is taking Woodson over Painter lol. Didn’t Mike Davis have a really good record against Purdue too? Head to head only tells so much of the story. Painter is 17-16 against Izzo but clearly Izzo has the much more impressive resume.

This whole “gets beaten by double digit seeds every year” is wild to me. I think it’s a severe case of recency bias because before North Texas, it was rare that Painter lost to double digit seeds. And even with Edey gone, our incoming recruiting class is loaded with another likely early NBA entrant. We’ll just keep reloading.

It’s just jealousy.  People just start making comments like this when they are jealous.

    I love internet tough guys

There is no internet tough guy.  It’s the truth.  We suck.  We beat an even suckier Maryland team today.  They start a guy that wouldn’t even be a starter for us which is why he transferred.  Some Indiana fans man.

They also became a laughingstock by being only the 2nd team to lose to a 16 seed...

Even in their glory years they screw it up...

Again we have zero glory.  We are the laughingstock getting out recruited in our own backyard.  We are the laughing stock finishing towards the end of a sucky Big Ten.  Again, shut it.  We sound dumb making fun of a team that kicks everyone’s butt every year.

How many times did Purdue beat us last year?

They won the B10.  We didn’t.  Who gives a flying F? They have finished in the top 4 in 9 of the last 10 seasons.  They have four Big Ten titles in the last 10 seasons.  I mean they are kicking our butts year in and out and we are talking crap.  Let’s do it before we talk crap.  Indiana lives in the past instead of the current.  We suck they don’t.

Get past the first round and we'll talk...

I would just say this.  All IU fans should just shut it because there is only one coach dominating this state and the Big Ten right now in Indiana and it ain’t here. Can’t talk smack when you are barely making the tourney, early exits and now at the bottom of the Big Ten.

This is where I was. Long before Crean was hired, I never understood the hype about him. I always thought his Marquette teams were an undisciplined mess.
I was positive toward the Archie hire. He had success just below the P6 level and had a good pedigree. So called experts said he was a can’t miss hire. I’ll always suspect that he was undermined by IU on the McKinley Wright transfer that could have changed the trajectory of his tenure. But ultimately, the job seemed too big for him.
I was never in favor of the Woodson hire. None of it fit together. Seemed like a way to appease the “Indiana Guy” contingent without having to hire Alford. They cobbled together Matta and Fife, but it was clear that Woodson didn’t want a baby sitter or an heir apparent. Sounds like Fife really screwed up too, if rumors are to be believed.

Here is the thing.  I think the Fife thing was just a hit to make it OK to get rid of him.  It was leaked when it shouldn’t have.  Didn’t seem right at the time for me.  I think Woodson didn’t want someone questioning him and leaked stuff about him.

I like Dusty May. If he can build FAU into a competitive and respectful program then he should do well with the IU brand and resources.

That said, if a more instantaneous approach is the goal, a coach like Pearl is the easy choice. His age is a concern for me though.

With the transfer portal, a good staff can build a roster fairly quick.

Problem is that staff that builds with too many kids from portal have no success in that year.  You need to developed it as well and build it.
