We were damn close to our ceiling, we weren't favored (other than PSU at home) in games we lost... even the home ones.

Multiple games we won when we weren't favored. I think we even, at one point, won 4 straight games that we weren't favored in.

But see-- I don't see this as some massive defense of Woodson, the bar being THAT low to begin with, is a BIG issue.

Right, but odds aren’t set at the beginning of the season. Maybe a much better D and rebounding team, which could have been possible maybe changes some of those underdog tags to favorite tags (especially some of the home games) as the season goes along. But I get your argument. End of the day, poor roster construction limited the teams ceiling, but I’m not sure he got everything out of them that he could have.

I have been a defender of Woodson for most things. But this year. This year is put up or pack bags.

I’ve not been a defender since early this past year, but I want the same things you do, and I won’t be rooting for him to lose. But I can’t say I won’t be discouraged a lot quicker than you if things are rough early.

Woodson and the staff's issue last year was scouting and development. I pray those have been rectified. The winter will take care of itself, if so.

I think you both can be right. The roster construction was terrible and that was CMW’s fault. He MAY have gotten out of that roster what you believe was the max. I kind of disagree because rebounding and defense is a lot of effort and could have improved the team (although limited still), but there didn’t seem to be an emphasis on either.

I read your post as saying that you don't think we improved our roster, until Goode came on board. and maybe not even after he did.

No, sorry for the confusion. I was just saying prior to Goode’s addition I wouldn’t have valued Tucker as high as McNeely (and maybe still don’t). But after Goode, there could be a case for Tucker being more valuable. Just saying it’s all TBD for me based on how everything plays out. If we shoot it at a much better clip this year, then McNeely won’t be missed. If we don’t, hindsight would seem to suggest we needed McNeely more than Tucker.

Woodson could win #6 and people would complain that we weren’t undefeated.

We could go undefeated and people would complain that we got lucky too many times. The wins weren’t convincing enough.

We could go undefeated and win every game by 30 and the same people would complain that it wasn’t the “old B10 home and home schedule” so it doesn’t count as much. And we had more than 2 players that weren’t from Indiana. 🙄

Translation: some people aren’t happy unless they’re complaining, and some people will never be totally happy with IU basketball until the remains of RMK are reanimated and the calendar says 1978 again.

And some people struggle to see a different view and respectfully discuss topics sometimes, right?

I doubt any of your over exaggerations are accurate, but carry on.

All you guys make good points. No doubt the recruits we've got committed are talented. But talent doesn't equate to winning.

I've been listening to Rabjohns on a podcast and he's saying IU's still going after yet another, big man. that would give us 3 bigs. All talented, all productive, but if don't have anybody that can stretch the floor, defenses will just clog the lane.

It's nice to see all you guys saying I'm wrong. Honestly hope you're right. But jury is still out for me on how productive and wins we get next year.

This is where I am. I’ll be extremely disappointed and angry if we don’t snag a couple sharpshooters. I have no faith next season will be much better without a couple. We’ve seen this story every year recently. The pickups so far are great and I’m happy with them, but for crying out loud FIND US A REAL SHOOTER OR TWO!!

Exactly. Offensive efficiency is about more than just 3P%. It's about being able to attack a defense in multiple ways. Kanaan Carlyle is a three level scorer. Myles Rice is a scorer and distributor.

Keisei Tominaga, everyone's favorite shooter, right? Shot just 33% from 3 his first year at Nebraska, on 3.6 attempts per game. Ryan Conwell, the shooter everyone wants from the portal, shot just 30% as a freshman at South Florida in the AAC. Even Connor Hickman, over 40% as a junior, had a sophomore year at Bradley wherein he shot 33.6%.

We have to stop looking at 3P% as the sole indicator of a player's worth.

No offense, but I think the comment about efficiency is common sense. However, your ceiling is limited if you don’t have shooters. We’ve seen and complained about this game for how many years now? If the argument is that guys like MM, Carlyle, and Rice will improve enough to raise our ceiling, fair enough, but I think that’s a risky proposition. Sure would be nice to secure a sharp shooter that can benefit from guys that are able to attack and distribute the basketball. Otherwise teams will pack the paint and say good luck.

This team had more than a shooting problem. And having two guys like this on our team would improve our team a lot.

Don’t necessarily disagree we’ll be better  but you can’t win big (i.e. go far) without shooters. We’ve seen it over and over again. Not saying we don’t want these guys. Just saying there better come some shooters with them or we’ll all be griping again during the season next year.

I still feel good about Ballo. Some people are just overreacting to nothing right now.

People are overreacting because we need shooters and one that they were told was coming here just committed to Cincinnati. So we still don’t have a shooter correct, going on how many years? Ballo alone doesn’t fix any problems, and I’m not of the opinion that Carlyle does either.

No one was saying he would be the only 3 point shooter but he is pretty good

Rice was over 30% 3 pt shooter until a very bad stretch to end the season.   I don't know why he stunk it up from outside to end the season but I don't think he is as bad of a shooter as his season percentage would suggest.

Galloway was a good shooter the year before last.  Needs to figure out what went wrong.

We definitely need another good shooter but our team isn't completely devoid.

I’m tired of relying on guys that haven’t proven to be consistent. We need the sure thing…. get a couple proven shooters please. I’m hesitant on MM bc if he can’t play D, or rebound at a high rate from the 3-4 he can be more of a liability. I’m not willing to sacrifice those things for his 4.9 attempts per game. And just no on Gallo. Love everything else about him, but no. JMO.

I get not trusting him but he’s going to be one of the guys taking a good number of 3’s. Knockdown shooters will be coming off the bench

Slow your roll DC! I edited my post 20 secs after my GIF to clarify what I was referring to and you were on top of it faster than flies on …..😂. I’m not questioning or doubting your info or that’s the way it will be. I just don’t like it.
