The problem is Cliff Marshall is used to training nfl guys and while I agree some people need to put on weight it seems a lot of guys that came to us as shooters and all of a sudden have struggles can be linked to him not working on the correct areas needed for basketball players. Also sure seems like our players have had a lot of lower leg injuries. Way more than other schools since he has taken over. I wish an NFL team would come scoop him up

What shooters have we gotten while Clif has been here that “he” has ruined?

    Thanks, kinda..

It still feels like several parade floats that have a big self qualifying, sign that says... MEH, this is an ok parade, you could do better, but it won't last. While the people on the sidewalks in lawn chairs say..... Then why are you in the parade?

But you won't catch me rooting against those posts.

🤷🏻‍♂️. Sorry? Not sure where the confusion is. I don’t think Woodson’s recruiting, and playing style have been acceptable. He’s too stubborn and doesn’t seem to take much accountability. And he’s 63 years old, on the back end of his career, so changing isn’t likely.  I just don’t think he’s the right guy for the job. But I hope all of that changes, he grows ….because I’m not going to root for us to lose.

This one commitment is a start to moving in that direction, but it doesn’t change much in my book yet. It’s like me having a car that has multiple things wrong on it. A mechanic says that he can fix one of the issues. Okay, well that’s fine, but my car still isn’t fixed. I need everything fixed so it runs correctly. Since we’re using analogies and such. Only a small part of the job is done. We can be happy about it, but it’s not something that just makes everything okay all of a sudden. If we bring in multiple shooters to address our main weakness and it looks like the pieces are there…. then the happy meter can certainly move to the right a little bit.

Top 20 level player absolutely moves the needle. If your point is this has to be a starting point, I agree. But I disagree that this level of talent doesn't move the needle.

We had a top 20 player just leave for the draft. So, a good start adding a quality player, but he’s not KW and he doesn’t shoot the 3 for a high percentage. Which means we’re not as good, definitely not better than we were last year… yet. So a start, but a LOT more needs to be done.  So worth being excited about? Yes. But doesn’t quite move the needle much for me yet. Sticking to my comment. 👍

No the stupid shit is calling him Taco. Period.

Not that big of a deal. Pretty sure most on here aren’t using it as a jab, more-so because it fits and has a ring to it. Nobody still holds that over his head. If he has a good sense of humor, I’m sure he doesn’t care. But I’m not going to argue about it.

    Definitely should get credit.

I get people living in that all so famous phrase of their own echo chamber. We only believe or say or pass along in agreeance with what that individual thinks or wants to think. I get it and it's a shame.

With that said. Maybe it was being away from home. Maybe Altman just didn't know the buttons to push. Maybe Altman pulled an Underwood (Podziemski) and just didn't think he had it....either way anyone that can see a kid who still doesn't turn 20 until next month hasn't grown/matured/developed in his 10 months has zero ability to look past their own bias or beliefs on our staff.

Ware is another example of a kid under Woodson who has developed and will be pro ready.

Your point could have easily been made without the first sentence and first full paragraph. 🤷🏻‍♂️

People tend to look at things through their own lens while ignoring others. They should give pause when just this week Utah’s women’s team experienced what they did in Idaho! Just my opinion.

Overall point I get, I guess. But relating MM’s nickname to racist events isn’t a good correlation IMO. MM may not like it, may think it’s funny, who knows… but it certainly doesn’t have racist intent.

In the grad scheme of life, it's really not that important.  Why on earth would I make exceptions to my moral compass just so a team I root for could be better than it is?

Do I want my kids looking back and thinking...

    • 'Dad was against cheating unless it was IU basketball."  "
    • "Dad believed in working hard to get good grades in school, unless it was an IU basketball player."
    • "Dad wants us to stay away from drugs, but doesn't think IU players should be punished for it'"
    • 'Why did dad talk to us about violence, but turn a blind eye when a IU player sucker punched an opponent or beat up his girlfriend.

If those things meet your definition of 'holier than thou', then I plead guilty and I'm proud of it.

Meh, I think this is a pretty big oversimplification and stretching the truth a little bit. I haven’t seen one person on here insinuate that we should have turned our heads to what was going on under Sampson. His inability to follow a rule he had already broken and inability to police his kids rightfully cost him his job. I think most are talking about how the administration appears to be unwilling to hire guys that have broken minor rules (rules that aren’t rules anymore in some cases) in the past.

It’s the Kentucky stuff.  I just want to get talent and win.  Kentucky fans are insane for wanting to get rid of him.

I disagree…. I AM tired of the holier than thou attitude we have, but I have ZERO interest in Calipari. He’s won one tournament game in four years with one of the top recruiting classes in every one of those years. And if you think Mike Woodson makes excuses and never takes accountability, Calipari is the world’s worst.

Wasn’t in any way, shape or form comparing Malik to TJD. Very few players have ever exceeded TJD’s athleticism and defensive effort. My point was that some of Malik’ deficiencies- poor/selfish offensive decision making and below average rebounding can, hopefully, be significantly improved. If they are improved, the team’s ceiling goes up. Nothing really to do with Trayce.

Apologies. I meant to quote @loviubb not your post. Sorry about that.

Really good point and I think some of his glaring weaknesses can be improved upon. Just passing the ball out of triple teams will be a good start and I think Malik can become a serviceable to very good three point shooter. Malik’s rebounding will improve dramatically with an improved motor and I think that will happen with more experience.

MR doesn’t have the motor or the athleticism that TJD did. Comparing MR to him is a slap in the face of TJD. TJD was always a rim protector, got after it on D, and rebounded his butt off. MR does none of those things. No offense, but not even close.

Occam’s razor, principle stated by the Scholastic philosopher William of Ockham (1285–1347/49) that pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate, “plurality should not be posited without necessity.” The principle gives precedence to simplicity: of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred. The principle is also expressed as “Entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity.”

The simplest reason a player chooses to go somewhere other than IU is because IU is currently a !@#$ show (as you stated).

So are you agreeing with me or disagreeing with me? 😂

TJD has issues being the #5 defender in the B1G many of times.

TJD’s motor, effort on the boards, and effort on D was never where MR was this past year. I don’t dislike MR the person one bit, although the constant whining about fouls drives me insane. I just don’t think he fits the modern style of basketball we should be playing. He in no way or form should be a 4, but he doesn’t rebound or protect the rim well enough (maybe an effort issue? Not sure) to play the 5. That’s my beef. It’s a conundrum that will hamper us again next year IMO. The conundrum will look a lot less damaging IF we can add 3-4 shooters to the team, but nonetheless I don’t see where he fits.
