I'm fine. I just get tired of people making blanket statements about coaches or players when it appears they have not looked at the record. I've never been a huge fan of Penny, but take a look at how his team performed this past season. Is that the sign of a sh*tty coach? I don't think so.

I get it, but it’s totally opinionated. Record alone doesn’t speak to the quality or lack of quality from a coach.

Do you have any idea about their team? Have you even looked at their record, or did you just decide to spout off like a 14 year old trying to impress his friends?

Sometimes it is difficult for family to work together. Hard to separate personal from business, so to speak. Other players might have a hard times speaking freely around the son, if they happen to get t'ed off at the coach. Makes it uncomfortable for everyone.

You okay? Pretty aggressive reply to a respectable poster over a simple possibility.

  3. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to have Tucker after losing out on Liam, but no way I’d “rather” have Tucker. We need shooters, and we lost a better shooter. Maybe it works out better if we snag a couple shooters in the portal, but given what we need more than anything, disappointing we lost Liam.

who is 'we'? lol. The fans or Woody?

I’m obviously not in the know, so I’m speaking of the fans, what most of us have talked about wanting. But to what I think your point is, Woody may not even have that plan, and he knows better than us right? I probably shouldn’t say “we” anyway bc I’m not a true fan since I won’t eat turds or give up testicles.

I hate UK 1,000 times more than Purdue.

I dont really care or not if Purdue wins or not on most nights.  I just dont want them to win a National Championship or against IU.

Otherwise, I generally like it when Big Ten teams do well on the National stage.

    💯

From what I saw this year, he doesn’t yet have what it takes to guard/out rebound the 5 nor be trusted to stay on the court when overmatched. He has a ton of work to do in the offseason otherwise he’ll get killed every time we face a top tier center. Mbacko needs to make tremendous strides in this category himself.

Yeah, it’s a tricky proposition for us! We want to play 4 out, 1 in but Malik doesn’t fit this style. Don’t mean to dog on Malik, but we can’t play the way we want to with him on the floor. We need an athletic rim protector that can also shoot it decent and rebound AND a couple lights out shooters on the floor with Malik in the rotation. JMO.

My point is that the Edey 'frustration' by IU fans would not exist if he was a Hoosier.

My issue is less about people who complain about 3 seconds or getting away with fouls.  A good amount of that is true.

That said, anyone that says he's not really that good and point out he'll never be a great pro are the ones being just a smidge hypocritical.  There is not an IU fan out there that would not love to have him on our team regardless of how skilled he is or what his NBA future looks like.  Are we trying to win games or trying to look pretty  regardless of the outcome.

I agree, but I’m a KY guy. I didn’t grow up hating Purdue. I grew up hating, and still do, Kentucky at an unhealthy level.

Everyone complaining about Edey would sacrifice their left testicle if he were to announce he's grad transferring to IU to play ball next year.

I’m not eating turds or giving up my left testicle for anything basketball related!

It was reported during the PU (gag) - Gonzaga game that Painter attended a coaching clinic last summer. In it Baylor's staff (Baylor being one of the best shooting teams in CBB) gave a presentation on a 3 point practice drill they use. Painter reportedly incorporated it into their practices. They went from 291st in 3 pt shooting last year to 1st this season, with largely the same roster (just adding Jones). Granted their freshmen matured, but still.

Does Woodson and the other coaches attend these? Asking because I honestly don't know. How intellectually curious are they about adopting things being done at other programs?

Mike Woodson says, “Mike Woodson already knows everything about the game of basketball. I just need to get my kids over the hump.”

I have been to events at the Brown, but never actually stayed there, or eaten at the restaurant.   It is a very nice hotel though.

The main nighttime/entertainment district is about 3 blocks south.  Walkable depending on the time of day.  Would probably Uber back to hotel at night if you do go there though.

Careful where you walk, about like Indy lately with all of the shootings. 36 homicides in the first quarter … last number I saw. 😬

Usually conferences are confined to one or two classes, though it's not prohibited from being 3 or 4.  But, classes that much different in enrollment probably do not want to be in conferences together given the choice.

    That’s what I was thinking.

    Boom. Scottsburg gets the W.

2 state titles in the same conference.

Explain, to this Kentucky guy, how two teams from the same conference can win titles in different classes. Are conferences just determined by location, doesn’t matter class?

    Love any strength conditioning stuff.
but if the person focuses on looking buff, it’ll $*# up your shot. I wasn’t buff, or had a decent shot.
but once my focus was on being a buff stud… my shot got even worse.
my 3 pt shot (35%ish) went to 12% for 3 days after lifting. Not making this sh$& up!!

    Edit by bue:

@Joe_Hoopsier this is multiple posts today with beyond acceptable language. Please chill my man. :)

Yeah, I mean I think it’s common sense that getting buff can affect a shot, but I’m not sure who came in as a good shooter, then got buff and then couldn’t shoot. Again, we haven’t recruited any shooters in recent years so how could Clif mess any of them up?

Not criticizing at all but why not a fan of women’s basketball?  I have both men’s and women’s season tickets and typically really enjoy both except the men are making me question it.

Game is just a lot slower and less athletic as a whole. But I enjoyed watching this IU team play. They played smart, moved well on offense, and shot it really well all year. They really competed. You could tell they didn’t handle losing well and I enjoy watching athletes like that.

  15. Ladies should hold their heads high. Not a fan of women’s basketball, but they were fun to watch. They didn’t stop moving on offense (get a lot of good looks), played smart, and worked hard on the defensive end. They were toast early in the second half, but didn’t quit. When you can make threes you’re never out of it. S. Carolina was rattled and out-smarted. If we only had a couple more minutes.

You don’t think working out muscles has anything to do with shooting? I don’t know your background but have you coach basketball? Your legs have absolutely everything to do with it and if you work the wrong part of muscles in your legs or overwork them then that has a major impact.

I know it CAN…. ha ha, but I’ll trust the tons of people in the industry that tell us that Clif knows what he’s doing. Nobody has answered my question yet…. what elite shooters have we recruited since Clif has been there that he screwed up? MK wasn’t “screwed up”…. he didn’t get the volume he should have gotten, but he wasn’t messed up by Clif. We haven’t had any elite shooters in a long time, but I’m sure the current guys thank you for making excuses for them. 😂

Just saying, no one significantly improved their shooting under Miller or Woodson. When Crean was coach and Tim "the shot doctor" Buckley was assistant, numerous guys improved their shooting. It isn't just repetition. Repeating bad form won't help anything.

Last season, Zeisloft had the second highest offensive rating of any player in the country, according to KenPom.com. He shot 45 percent on 3-pointers, including 51.4 percent in Big Ten play.

He’s not the only guy who has experienced major improvements in shooting in the Indiana program under Crean and associate head coach Tim Buckley, who several players call the team’s “shot doctor.”

Watford went from a 31.4 percent 3-point shooter as a freshman to 48.4 percent by his senior season.

The shooting jump Oladipo made in his junior season, one in which he hit 44 percent of his 3s, is a major reason his NBA stock skyrocketed.

“When you first get here, coach Crean focuses on turning your hips and having your left foot one, two,” Ferrell told Inside the Hall. “So that’s what I would focus on after practice and just shooting by myself was the mechanics of it. And we’ve got a great, great shooting coach with coach (Tim) Buckley. He tells us to be up with the ball, elbow under the ball, so with every shot, I focus on those things. With that going into my senior year, I feel like I’m even a better shooter now than I’ve ever been.”

Fans arriving early to Assembly Hall may notice Buckley and Collin Hartman going through a shooting routine, one that helped Hartman develop into a 47.5 percent 3-point shooter last season.

Zeisloft says he does something similar with Buckley’s instruction.

“They see the details. Coach Buckley and I do mine before the shoot around in the afternoon,” Zeisloft says. “So we’re both basically doing the same thing. Coach Buck sees my elbow when it’s popping out a little bit, he sees my chest when it’s fading back a little bit, he sees my chin up and tells me to keep my chin down. It’s the little things.”

I think we’re prob getting at the same thing. Don’t think Clif has anything to do with whether guys shots are improving or not.

That's why I said I wasn't attributing it to Clif. However, something is amiss when players get worse over their tenure at IU. I used FTs because that doesn't account for competition, style of play, etc.

How does Parker Stewart shoot 77% at TN Martin, 64% at IU and then 75% again at TN Martin?

Bigger stage, more pressure, higher expectations …. 🤷🏻‍♂️. I don’t know. Don’t think any of it should be attributed to Clif. We need to recruit better and make sure those guys are dogs, work at it. Regardless of what Clif does, if these guys shoot a couple hundred FTs a day (or maybe more), they’ll get better. Obviously don’t shoot enough.

Not attributing to Clif, but here are a couple examples based on FT% of what happens at IU:

    Parker Stewart:

    Year 1 Pitt:   80%

    Year 2 TN Martin: 77%

    Year 3 IU: 64%

    Year 4 TN Martin: 75%

    Trey Galloway:

    Year 1: 74%

    Year 2: 65%

    Year 3: 64%

    Year 4: 53%

Miller Kopp - had his lowest shooting % at 82% of his career, except for his freshman year at NW. Went from 90% his soph year at NW and 85% his jr year to 86% year 1 at IU and 82% in year 2. More notable, his last year at NW he attempted 66 FTs in 24 games. His last year at IU, he attempted 23 in 35 games.

XJ: Was 78-79% his last year at PItt and first two years at IU. Was 69% this season (could be injury-related).

The only recent player I've found, so far, who improved during his time at IU was Race Thompson, but he was still below 70% his last season.

But are we really trying to blame Clif for not being able to shoot FTs? What high volume, dead eye shooters have we successfully recruited in the last 5 years?
