  1. This chart is from Citi Research. Look in the top right corner-
  2. Beware of the Robinhooders. This Dr got his Chartered Financial Analyst designation but didn't pay much attention based upon his tweet. The hype train is going full speed. History says it will not end well.
  3. Hand sanitizer for the nose. Kills the virus and prevents it. I would use this. Great for plane trips and restaurants. https://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/israeli-behind-game-changing-covid-nasal-spray-says-its-99-9-effective/
  4. I've been following EVs for years. Both on the investment front and as a potential owner. I like the thought of less moving parts, maintenance, and greater acceleration. I don't buy for a minute that electric is universally cleaner. Where does the electricity come from to charge these vehicles? In some cases, diesel powered generators! An electric is recharged by electricity and is only as clean as the source generating the electricty. Countries that produce lots of nuclear energy will have a greener footprint for their EVs. The cleanest, most sustainable forms of energy are fuel cells, nuclear, wind and hydro. They all have issues. In the end, the answer is all of the above. Certain parts of the country are better for wind or solar. (Natural) gas and oil are not dinosaurs although I do think they are on the downhill side of demand. As far as subsidies, I'm not so sure we should be subsidizing any. A lot of that just breeds corruption and waste (Solyndra). Invest in innovation and research and let private companies take it from there.
  5. Looks like cases peaked Jan 6. Cases and hospitalizations universally down. Pfizer vaccine shown effective against the Covid variant. Chicago restaurants now opening. Have we turned the corner?
  6. Can't believe I'm posting this (contributing to the energy derailment) but there is a direct link to electric vehicles. I guess you could argue Tesla is contributing to the destabilization of Congo. https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/electric-vehicle-push-sends-cobalt-prices-higher
  7. My wife had her second Pfizer shot. No issues at all after 2 days. First one caused some fatigue on the first day, a couple days of arm soreness and a brain fog that lasted a week. FL just announced they are cracking down on vaccine tourists. CA last in vaccinations now
  8. Beginning to loosen restrictions around me effective today (suburban Chicago). Also in Washington DC- https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dc-mayor-bowser-confirms-indoor-bar-and-restaurant-service-to-resume-at-25-25-capacity-starting-jan-22/ar-BB1cYnIR On the treatment front- more good news- https://www.wsj.com/articles/lilly-antibody-drug-prevents-covid-19-in-nursing-homes-study-finds-11611234000?mod=hp_lead_pos7
  9. I've been in FL the last couple days getting my fill of the outdoors before I return to the cold. I kayaked for 4 hours in Estero Bay. Hiked up Mound Key. Walked the beaches in Bonita Springs and Naples, walked through the corkscrew preserve and will hike a few miles thru Cypress Slough before heading back today. Got more exercise in 2 days than the last 2 months!
  10. Welcome to the mid size truck world! I love my Canyon. I looked at the Ridgeline.. but preferred the GMC. Just hope mine proves as reliable as the Honda
  11. Last week, CVS and Walgreen both said that they can each administer 20-25 million vaccines per month. Quick superficial math: 330M people minus 70M under 16 = 260M. Assume 20% refuse vaccination = 210M to be vaccinated minus 14M already done = 195M x 2 doses = 390M vaccines to be administered. CVS/Walgreen could do it under 10 months on their own. Given vaccine availability, more than 50% of Americans could be vaccinated by the summer.
  12. I'm 53 and what bugs me the most is needing reading glasses. I don't need them all the time but if the lighting is dim and or the print too small, I'm reaching for a flashlight and or my cheaters. Reminds me of my father, lol. The other thing I have just started getting in the last year or so is plantars fasciitis. Mine is not too bad and I can put on a sleeve and it goes away.
  13. My son has a 1500 with the 5.7L. I know he is familiar with the eco diesel. Let me know if there is something specific you want to know. You just want to know if the mpg is accurate? This site will you give you info on that- https://www.fuelly.com/car/ram/1500/2016?engineconfig_id=238&bodytype_id=&submodel_id= Look at the reviews to find something similar to what you have in mind.
  14. A few thoughts responding to some of the previous posts... I hear FL leads the country with 10% of its seniors vaccinated. LA is the new hot spot. LA Times estimating 1/3 have already had it. If so, that greatly lessens the amount needed to get vaccinated to reach herd immunity. My understanding is that it is rare for asymptomatic people to pass it on. That is why schools are not much of an issue. If a vaccine increases those #s, it should still cut down the spread. @5fouls linked an article predicting it will end up like the common cold in a few years. And what's the point of kids only to school for 1/2 days or 2 days a week? If Mom sends her kid to school with Covid, others are still going to get it. Around me, healthcare workers are still getting vaccinated. I'm hearing of abuses where family members of healthcare workers are being listed as "working in the office" to get shots. I think after 3-4 weeks of prioritizing healthcare, they need to move the seniors up in line. That might incentivize more of the health care workers to get theirs. I know of a lady in a nursing home in suburban Cook Co that isn't scheduled for her shot until Feb 1. My parents, in their 80s, with health issues, don't anticipate getting theirs for at least another month. To me, that is wrong. More info coming out showing lockdowns don't work and the damage might be 10x worse than the virus itself. A peer reviewed international study https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/eci.13484 showed- "Conclusions While small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive NPIs. Similar reductions in case growth may be achievable with less restrictive interventions." Yet what are people talking about in LA- more lockdowns. Don't see where closing an outdoor gym- already at limited capacity- is going to help much more.
  15. I've seen some interesting charts showing that electric is only environmentally friendly in certain countries where they produce a lot of renewable energy. Here in the US, it is kind of a wash. You are right that adding in the manufacturing negates much of the positive impacts. I think there are a dozen or more electric vehicles coming in the next year or so. It will be interesting to see how Tesla fares when they have some competition. TFL truck reviews the the MachE vs Tesla Y and the Ford looks better to me- https://youtu.be/rUjDBYQkhwM https://youtu.be/hA_B7qPyUDA
  16. For $39k, never needing gas and oil changes and a body that won't show wear or rust, I think they will sell pretty good. And they will have the Zombie market all to themselves!
  17. I hadn't been looking at vehicles for years so was really surprised by what Kia had done. Haven't tried the intercom yet and kids are grown so will never use the third row for people so it will likely be among the many features that I never, or rarely, use. One review said the upper trims were like luxury vehicles at 2/3 the cost. When I go in for an oil change, I'm thinking I'm going to have to take the Stinger for a test drive.
  18. Anyone considering buying an electric pickup? https://2021electriccars.com/2021-and-2022-electric-pickup-trucks-are-electric-trucks-the-future/ I'm looking forward to seeing these and how they do. Not looking to replace mine for several years at which time there should be several to choose from.
  19. Were you not able to get the Telluride you wanted or did she just like the Volvo better? Last year would have been their first model year. I think all the accolades that vehicle got are really driving demand. When I was buying they told me the vehicle I test drove sold an hour later to someone from WI who drove down to get it. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
  20. Couldn't resist bringing this here-
  21. Last Monday, 6 hours before returning to ASU, my daughter totalled my wifes Toyota Highlander. It was not her fault and no one was hurt. The Toyota was paid for and we anticipated keeping for at least another 5 years as it fit our needs and has always been reliable. All of a sudden, we needed a plan B. Since we go to MI many weekends in the summer, we needed something big enough for my German Shepherds crate in the back and the mother in law (she doesn't need a crate anymore ). I would have liked an electric but the ones out now (Tesla Y, Mustang Mach E) aren't big enough. There are roughly 25 3rd row SUV models out there so time for some research. I start with Motor Trend, Car and Driver, US News and World Report reviews. Toyota was generally around 5th or lower with the Honda Pilot close by. At the top were Kia, Mazda, Hyundai, Subaru and VW. Spent a couple evenings last week doing test drives. I liked the Mazda but my wife thought the seats were uncomfortable. I thought the Subaru would be a good combination of safety, technology, winter driving, comfort, resale, etc but she couldn't stand the turbo whine from the 4 cyl. A week ago I never thought I'd be a Kia owner, but the Kia had the best combination of luxury, safety, driving features, technology, 100k mile warranty, above average reliability?? and my wife like the way they looked. Only issue was they are relatively new and in high demand so hardly any are available and couldn't get our exact choice of preferred options. Dealer had one coming in the following day so we jumped on it as it was mostly what we wanted. There is an eco driving mode for the wife and a sport mode for me . So there I was, last Thursday evening, buying a KIA Telluride during the IU game while following the play by play on espn and trying to keep up on the game thread. We have only had it a few days but we both like it so far. My wife was amazed she gets text messages on her phone if the doors are left unlocked. I had it waxed and a ceramic sealant put on yesterday to protect it from the snow coming tomorrow. The color is kind of cool. Very little metallic in it and depending on lighting can look white, silver or gray.
  22. Once again, NY appears to be bungling its Covid response. As cases are at an all time high- The governor is saying now is the time to reopen. Didn't he listen to any of his own press conferences? All the other "experts"? Furthermore, their vaccine rollout seems to be the most problematic. 50+ questions? 6 steps to set up a vaccination appt?
  23. Some have complained about the vaccine not being distributed fast enough. I recently read this- The initial rollout has been slow almost everywhere. (Israel and surprisingly West Virginia being impressive exceptions. West Virginia was the one state that did not use the federal nursing home rollout plan. They ran their own process, showing how this is really a state-by-state problem.) I have noticed around Chicagoland, there are big differences in the rollout by county. Lake county was more organized and let people sign up in Dec for text notifications of the availability. Cook, DuPage and Will still do not have that and, from personal observations and talking to others, there is a big difference based upon where you live / work. My wife was not able to get vaccinated in Will county where we live but was able to get vaccinated in Cook County where she works. It seems the rollout, its speed, and effectiveness is being determined by the countys, then the states and lastly by Federal governance.
