  1. If you read further, there are a number of other studies (https://rationalground.com/interactive-tool-masks-covid-19/) and comments in that thread that address exactly that issue. That was my first thought as well. Take it FWIW, and assume your mask will not be 100% effective and possibly detrimental if you are not rigorous in mask hygiene.
  2. As most of you know, I've been following this situation closely all year. I present the info below to raise awareness. Time magazine reported that this is spread more by aerosol than droplets. N95 masks are the only ones effective in stopping aerosols. I am not an anti masker, but I think it is important to practice the proper technique when wearing. Don't reuse, touch your face etc. IMO, a mask may lower your odds but not prevent you from catching it. The overwhelming majority of people who do catch it admit to mask wearing. As the data below shows, there might be a possibility that mask wearing increases your chances of getting Covid.
  3. Peer reviewed study about to be published. If I caught Covid, I'd be pushing to be treated with this. Seriously, what's the harm? This med has been used for decades across the world and is seen as extremely safe. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/study-finds-84-fewer-hospitalizations-for-patients-treated-with-controversial-drug-hydroxychloroquine

  5. My winter project is replacing a lot of the switches and outlets in the house. First one took me like an hour. But I got it done. Now have USB plugs over the kitchen counter.
  6. Hope he got some of the AT&T stock. Sounds like my uncle who repaired helicopters in the Marines and would fix anything around the house. Owned a 76 or 77 Corvette. Also worked at AT&T until he switched over to Lucent. For me, it was just the opposite. My father didn't due anything, my mom put together our big wheels and toys as kids. I learned about wiring at IU hooking up my tv and stereo and gradually built up from there.

  8. This. You never hear about the IPOs that go down in value. I will try and look later, but I believe that is the majority. The people that make out on IPOs are the people that invested in the private equity rounds and the bankers.
  9. To be successful at investing, 3 questions have to be answered. 1) When to buy. 2) What to buy. 3) When to sell. I prefer methods that take the human emotion out of the equation.
  10. I agree. How can one say lockdowns unequivocally work when respected institutions and journals have not come to the same conclusion? https://fee.org/articles/3-studies-that-show-lockdowns-are-ineffective-at-slowing-covid-19/ Let's see how this plays out without rushing to judgement and objectively take into account all relevant information.

  12. News from LA. Rather strong words. https://therealdeal.com/la/2020/12/08/judge-tentatively-strikes-down-la-county-outdoor-dining-ban/ “The Restaurant Closure Order is an abuse of the department’s emergency powers, is not grounded in science, evidence, or logic, and should be adjudicated to be unenforceable as a matter of law,” Judge Chalfant wrote.
  13. Agreed. Saw that an affluent MD district has a 500% increase in Fs in Math. Minorities and the poor are being hit especially hard. When education is the cornerstone to the American dream, the result will be a decade or more to recover. Saw another stat that 20% of kids in another school district are not showing up at all. The ramifications of these dropouts and lost year of education is devastating. Keep doing what you are doing and realize convincing those kids to stay in school will probably be some of your biggest accomplishments.
  14. As we approach Christmas, consider doing your shopping at small businesses. Over 4 million are expected to close this year. Minorities are hit especially hard with almost half of black businesses closing and 40% of hispanic businesses closing.
  15. Were you aware of that fact? We have a lot of parents and teachers on this board that might be interested in knowing that- even if you aren't. That's ridiculous. You only focus on those for some reason. Your comment above is a soft type of censorship. If you want me to submit posts / articles to board approved "fact checkers" please let me know. Otherwise, feel free to ignore those posts / this thread since it bothers you so much. Again, I think everyone here can make up their own mind as to the value of what they read.
  16. More children have dropped out of school than the number of people who have died from Covid. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/public-school-enrollment-coronavirus-pandemic-60-minutes-2020-11-22/

  18. Pfizer hopes to get its vaccine approved by the FDA Thursday. No doubt it is effective (95%). What hasn't got much attention are the the side effects. From the Pfizer disclosures- The vaccine has been shown to elicit increased local and systemic adverse reactions as compared to those in the placebo arm, usually lasting a few days... The most common solicited adverse reactions were injection site reactions (84.1%), fatigue (62.9%), headache (55.1%), muscle pain (38.3%), chills (31.9%), joint pain (23.6%), fever (14.2%) Severe adverse reactions occurred in 0.0-4.6% of participants, were more frequent after Dose 2 than after Dose 1 and were generally less frequent in older adults (>55 years of age) (<2.8%) as compared to younger participants (≤4.6%). Among reported unsolicited adverse events, lymphadenopathy occurred much more frequently in the vaccine group than the placebo group and is plausibly related to vaccination.
  19. That's where my wife keeps her stash. Along with latex gloves and antibacterial wipes. I'd hate to be a thief these days. Get a purse out of that glovebox? No, just more masks and wipes. Lol
  20. I'm not arguing that at all. I brought up someone saying hospitals were admitting more marginal patients, and thereby benefitting financially. Not one person debated the issue but rather attacked me for not naming a source and assuming it was some right wing propaganda or some nonsense. Excess hospitalizations continues and exacerbates public fear and policy decisions. Just like overly sensitive tests creating false positives. All parts of the issues we should be cognizant about.
  21. I spoke with my neighbor who works at the large suburban hospital near me. Covid hospitalizations are declining there. 9 of their 30 ventilators are in use. When I asked if they are admitting milder cases who previously wouldn't have been admitted he said they were. The philosophy is to let patients immune systems time to fight it off naturally and use ventilators as a last resort. Average stay is perhaps a week. Looks like there is some truth to what I brought to the board. Shocking, isn't it? Why don't the people who want to criticize do their own due diligence?
  22. Here is the policy of Cornell- https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=16344 That seems wrong in so many ways.
  23. I gave you a like but wish there was a love (LEO- get it?) option.
  24. FL now requires Cycle Threshold be reported with test results. SOURCE- FL Dept of Health Press Release https://www.flhealthsource.gov/files/Laboratory-Reporting-CT-Values-12032020.pdf I hope more states start doing this.
