  1. For several years, it hasn’t seemed like IU’s players are bothered that much about losing. But they are bothered a lot when someone draws attention to their losing
  2. They’re working on some really tough emojis to post on Instagram to intimidate Penn St
  3. With all of his head and shoulder fakes, up and under and spin moves, he’ll foul JG out by halftime. But, then again, neither Kopp or Galloway can defend him either
  4. WI - IU has lost 8 of last 9 and 19 straight at Kohl Center NW - IU has lost 3 of last 4 and 4 of last 6 Rutgers - IU has lost 8 of last 9 and 6 straight
  5. I’m back to Archie mode. I record the game, then check the score before I watch it. Tonight was a delete.
  6. “I managed good, but boy did they play bad” Jim Bouton
  7. Seton Hall up 12 in first half against Butler. Announcers pointed out that SH typically plays 10 players, but didn’t make a substitution in the first 13 minutes because the starters were rolling.
  8. When I went to FS1 to schedule a recording of this game, it’s shown as a 6PM start time. At noon, they show the 2022 Westminster dog show highlights.
  9. How much would we have to pay to get out of our games with Ohio St and Michigan?
  10. When I was at IU, most B1G games were Thursday night and Saturday afternoon
  11. I maybe wasn’t clear. I agreed that defense and rebounding ( and missed FTs) list the game, but our zone offense execution also wasn’t good
  12. I said the same in another post. But we still didn’t play well against their zone
  13. Stepping away from basketball for personal reasons
  14. We're going to run the Wildcat formation
  15. Let's see... The NCAA is in Indy. Wonder how many employees are Colts fans...
  16. Gard and Pikiel are both really good at finding guys who fit their system and developing them
  17. I would think an MRI today or tomorrow. They’re tight lipped with injuries, though
  18. I felt at the time that Woodson was a transition hire. Partially an effort by Dolson to quiet the "Indiana Guy" faction (especially among the older, former players). I hoped he'd stabilize the program and get it on an upward trajectory by the time he stepped aside. He can still do that and has already made progress in some areas. The injuries are a major setback for this season, but next year was going to be major roster rebuild anyway. TJD, Race, XJ and Kopp will all be gone. JHS staying, and adding some significant players around him, will be critical for hopes of stability. I really hate to think of what the vibe around the program would be if not for the comeback against MI in the BTT. If MI had hung a 20 point loss on the Hoosiers and they had missed the NCAAT, Yikes. Going into the BTT, IU had lost 7 of 9 with the only wins against bad MD and MN teams. That's why I was always suspect about this year's pre-season lofty projections. Prior to going on a mini-roll in the BTT, we had beaten two upper division B1G teams all year (OSU and PU). I felt we'd be better and several B1G teams were taking a step back, but I thought the pre-season B1G favorite was a stretch. So, I guess I'd say my expectations haven't been as high as some others. Based on early season play, I felt this team (if healthy) was a solid top 25 team and a lock for a mid single digit NCAAT seed. Which would have been a definite improvement over the Archie era and last season.
  19. Not sure about that. Whether it was a lack of fundamentals or effort, the defensive rebounding was embarrassing. Time after time, IA players, especially Rebraca, were getting uncontested offensive rebounds with the IU players behind them. There were no blockout attempts. IA players were running uncontested to the offensive glass. Also, I didn't see one charge taken on all of IA's drives to the basket
  20. This is a really good article by Zak Keefer: The longer the Colts go without finding Luck’s successor, the more it burns Irsay — what could have been, what it’s cost his franchise. After Philip Rivers’ successful one-year stint in 2020, the owner wanted to find the team’s next quarterback in the draft, and in Irsay’s words, “grow our own.” But head coach Frank Reich wanted Wentz, convinced he could salvage the former No. 2 pick’s career. So the Colts made the move, thinking Wentz would be in Indianapolis for multiple seasons. Hours after the Colts’ Week 18 loss in Jacksonville, Reich sat in Irsay’s office and apologized to his boss. “I thought I could fix him,” the coach said of Wentz. “But I was wrong.” That’s when Irsay started to lose faith in his head coach, most in the building believe. Reich never regained it. An early issue (for Saturday) was finding a play-caller, a duty Reich handled since arriving in 2018. Saturday first went to quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich, the only assistant on staff with NFL play-calling experience. But Milanovich would only accept the job if he received a bump in pay, according to two team sources, which infuriated some in the building. The Colts refused to budge, and Milanovich turned the position down. Saturday then asked running backs coach Scottie Montgomery — a former college head coach and one of the most respected assistants on staff — but Montgomery turned down the gig as well. Saturday finally turned to an assistant who couldn’t say no. He walked into the office of 30-year-old assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier and shut the door. “You ready to do this?” Saturday asked. “I’m ready,” Frazier told him. As a coach, Saturday’s been wildly overmatched. The team’s regression has been obvious, the results damning. https://theathletic.com/4046216/2023/01/06/colts-jim-irsay-jeff-saturday-frank-reich/
  21. Painful to say, but true. IU went up 28-7 at the 13:32 mark of the first half. Iowa went to zone and we never really attacked it. Yes, we scored 61 more, but the zone caused us to have scoring droughts that allowed them to cut the 21 point lead to 10 at the half (giving them momentum and waking up the crowd), and then cutting the 10 point lead to a deficit. The offense against the zone was passing the ball around the perimeter and then trying to lob over the defense to TJD. There was no cutting against the zone or flashing to the high post. On the couple occasions where a player flashed to the foul line, they didn't look to shoot or pass inside. The scoring against the zone was primarily individual effort by TJD or JHS shooting over the zone (but usually off the dribble, not a kickout). Defensively, I don't have a clue what we were trying to do. As Raftery said, IA was just driving the lane at will to the basket. This has been a problem all season (UNC being the exception). I can't believe how many times we gave them a clear path, without anyone rotating over. Don't know when I've seen so many drives without a charge call or even a close block/charge call.
