On behalf of the Big 10, I'd like to thank Purdue, who in a weekend, gave us both  ACC Challenge and Gavitt Games victories.

I'm just not sure one NBA guard is enough. Sasha can shoot but it seems to me that Hunter and Thompson aren't quite there.  To me it would be asking a lot to put together 6 wins at tourney time with those guys. Not impossible though.

Wouldn't be surprised if Purdue won today but in the NCAA tournament I'd take Nova. Nova's guards are generally NBA talent and I think the guards will be Purdue's weakness. They're good enough to win the Big 10 but I'm not sure they have the talent/athleticism to win it all.

Coppin State now 0-4.  Four games in five days including a loss last night and a game at noon today. They may not be good but they play a lot.

Northern Illinois is coming off an upset of the Pac 12 Washington Huskies in Seattle 71-64

Last year in a COVID shortened season, they were 3-16 (2-12, 6th in MAC West)

New coach in Rashon Burno (first head coaching gig)

They bring back 64.6% of minutes played and 61.2% of scoring return from 2020-21 roster

Trendon Hankerson can shoot it. He had 28 points on 9-15 (6-11 from 3) versus Washington...Averaged 14 ppg last year

They do have some size and went 11 deep in the Washington game

After being disappointed in the IU opener, I am kind of relieved to see so many teams struggle. Tonight it was Creighton.  They beat Kennesaw State 51-44 and were 1-19 from 3. Checked the box score for Mason Miller but he hasn't played in either game.

I watched an interview with their new coach and he raved about returning their top 6 guys, 2 new guys from the portal and their 4 freshmen. 30ish minutes and never mentioned DA.

Noticed Damezi Anderson didn't play in a 103-45 beat down of Coppin State. Loyola played 12 guys so if he isn't hurt then that's pretty sad.

In recent years I would start watching the early, cupcake games and the score would be tight. I'd get frustrated that IU couldn't get a big lead and stop watching. I'd check back after awhile and the Hoosiers would be up by 20. It seems as soon as I stopped watching, they'd go on a run. It definitely wasn't enjoyable watching so I'd get the enjoyment from watching the highlights. I wish I could sit and watch and enjoy it but I can't.

I may actually watch the game tonight. I'm rather confident that the new coaching staff can withstand my jinx of IU basketball.  Of course, if EMU comes out raining 3's, I'll go back to periodically peaking at the score at ESPN. I must say though that I felt the same about Archie's first game.

Looks like typical Big 10, all conference team dominated by big guys. I'm excited to see what a Mike Woodson assembled/coached team looks like in the coming years.

The title should be changed to "committed" and moved out of Recruiting and into General Basketball where it will be quickly buried. When an IU recruit commits it gets moved but for some reason this and, for instance, Braden Smith are still in Recruiting. If moved I imagine they'll soon be forgotten.

Not hard to believe. He said he went from getting a salary to being paid by the game and said something to the effect of not wanting Friday night MAC games.

I could swear he's the one that said Brad Stevens had agreed to be the coach at IU. I hope Clowney picks IU but I'm not going to get any hopes up because of any inside info.

Any of you all dealing with the army worm infestation? My son is in the landscaping/lawncare business and has been overrun with frantic calls, as these are wiping out lawns, almost overnight.

This is a relatively rare occurrence, especially up here in Northern Indiana. Evidently, the theory is that the hurricanes blew the worms up north, and they have spread alarmingly fast. Also have been decimating farm fields.

Armyworms eat the grass blades and leave the crown so the grass can grow back. You need to water it every day to keep the crown from dying from heat/drought.

I'll share the award with you. Are the two columns supposed to equal 100%? Then the infection/fatality rate should be 5.4% for the 70+ group. To me it looks like the decimal point should be moved two spaces to the right.

This should be moved to the General Basketball Discussion since he has committed. There it should be quickly buried since it is a lot more active.

These downpours can be very localized so i like to check nearby weather stations on Wundermap.  I used to have a station a few hundred yards from me but I think he moved. Looks like I got around an inch.
