When I went to Gettysburg a few years back, I had to stand where Pickett's charge started and just imagine...

    That was an eye opener...

At Appomattox you can go to where Lee's last meeting was.  Also, standing at the courthouse and imagining being surrounded by 100,000 troops.  Hard to picture it.

I read and watched tons about the Civil War. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to visit Gettysburg to walk the battlefields. It is on my list. Coolest thing so far is visiting Charleston and Fort Sumter.

@Billingsley99 Tora! Tora! Tora! is a great World War II/Pearl Harbor movie if you and Ayden haven't seen it yet.

I've been to Shiloh and Appomattox.

A Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Antietam trip is in my future plans. Start at South Mountain and make a big loop.

It's so hard to have a movie based on a book and even more difficult based on real life events and to be "good"...to try to get enough entertainment and yet hold true enough to the source....so if it get's it right that is a big compliment. Most often if I see a movie that is based on a book that I enjoyed I definitely try to make a point to read the book....and I'm usually never disappointed as the book is usually so much better!

Blackhawk Down is about the only movie that is even close to the real life events and they pulled it off in about 2 hrs. One of the delta operators on the ground done and interview or article and said it was 75%+ on point. I can find it if you want.

My wife likes it, and she did like Gladiator after the initial battle scene. The trick is to sell it to them as a love story.

  4. Well, I wanted to watch Ghostbusters: Afterlife tonight. Not available to rent yet.

Instead I am going to watch Gladiator for the first time in forever.

    Then the original Ghostbusters.

My uncultured wife hasn't seen either of them.

And she gets bored watching Last of The Mohicans. 🤦‍♂️smh

Beta Max was an awesome format...better than VHS...but Sony making it proprietary and the VHS glut of cheaper models doomed it...

8 tracks were a waste...they should have automatically come with a book of matches to shove under the tape when the heads got misaligned...

My grandma had a beta max and vhs. Always thought beta max had better video quality.

My dad still had his 8 track in the garage. Never failed, almost every tape had a song that stopped and you had to flip the tape over to continue.

Oh yeah. My dad worked for RCA in Bloomington for over 30 years until they closed the plant. We had all those things when they first came out...

I also remember when he came home with one WITHOUT THE CORD....

Should we tell him about the beta max and 8 track?

Let it go. Everybody get back to talking about the big win.

Nobody gives a rats ass about the definition of a phobia.

    Seriously. Move on.

    I will let it go.

Just have to say though, when someone says "consider yourself educated" is pretty damn insulting.

I guess a sense of humor is lost on you. Or maybe I'm just an ass.

BTW the actual definition of xenophobia is a prejudice against the people of another country.  I have no problem the people, I just can't tolerate their form of government.

BTW is an acronym for "by the way"

I've already explained the definition of xenophobia.

    Consider yourself educated.

    @Zville Hoosier

Still don't understand why you are confused.  You are clearly misunderstanding the definition of a phobia.

Since you’re confused let me help you out… you referred to COViD as “China virus” and “Wuhan flu”, both of which are inaccurate and xenophobic terms. I’m sure it was a completely innocent mistake so consider yourself educated
