Going to be hard for us to ever be the favorites in the west, at any point, with the way things are set up now.

Very true, and sad.  Hardbaugh getting an extension will make them more of a favorite....lol jk.

Got to win a bowel game.  Hoping we have a dynamic pass rusher waiting in the wings- and, we get more creative with our running game/staple of running backs. Win a bowl game.  Two years, just came up short.

Doesn't stop momentum, in my opinion.  Big offseason with Wellman - very excited to see what he can do.

I went to Burger King this week and ordered a whopper and fries for good luck. Didn't expect news this soon. Usually they don't get orders out this quickly. Still waiting on that whopper though.

Whop would be big, but I actually think the offense will be fine and the young talent needs time to shine.  Ball can only go to so many targets.

Swann in the kid that would be very helpful for our D.  Hope he comes back

There are some other tranfers out there that had IU interest in recruiting.  Also some midwest, Indiana ties.  Wonder who they are talking to?

I wonder who are some of the readshirts or should I say true freshman that are ready to breakout?

Seems like all the kids want another crack at things. Kudos to the culture Allen has in place. I'm trying to keep up with how many projected starters we'll have coming back. Great start to 2021!

This is going to be interesting.  Ball is huge, especially if he was able to keep his athleticism.

But, the underclassman are some of the best recruits in program history.  The Seniors coming back are very solid and good.....then depth is going to be a positive.

I’m guessing we should over the week on who returns or leaves in my opinion, seems like most player do that on different teams

It will be interesting.  If you can get a masters for free, why not take advantage if your body is able.

I do wonder what does it do for the talented underclassman who have a huge upside?  How will depth charts be created?  Going to be interesting.

    1) It will be interesting to see what Wellman's focus is.  Injury prevention, speed/quickness, strength.  What kind of ideas he brings to the table and how he goes about getting everybody better.  I'm really excited about him having a full offseason to work with everyone.

    2) I'm big on the Jason Jones bandwagon.  I thought our safety play was miles ahead of where it was last year, he's our highest paid defensive assistant which I think shows how much we wanted him to come here.  He's familiar with Allen's system, and he's had a year on the staff to get familiar with things.  Then we can hire a good LB coach to replace Wommack.

    3) I think a big part of it is our offensive line.  Hiller is going to really have to earn his money the next couple years.  We have a lot of talent coming back, and with Carpenter coming in next year, we should start to push teams off the line.  Maybe not a team like OSU, but we should be able to run the ball better.  I feel like our offensive line should have been better than what it was this year.  With the talent we will have the next couple years, that needs to turn into a strength. I think Sheridan got lulled into having a passing offense because that was all we could do for the first 6 or 7 games of the year.  I was disappointed with his lack of creativity to help make up for the deficit of our offensive line.  The OL didn't help the play calling, and the play calling didn't help the OL.  For the most part, I don't think Sheridan really moved the needle one way or the other this year.  Overall, not great, not bad.  Today was exceptionally bad though.  No excuse for not running the ball more today with how well we were doing it and with Tuttle being hurt.  This was his first year calling plays, so hopefully he can improve going into next year.

    4) Hopefully everybody enjoyed this season enough that we don't lose anybody who will really hurt.  Not sure what to expect from the seniors, but I would guess not many of them will be back.  I kind of cringed today when they said Crider was going to finish his masters this spring.  I was hoping he'd come back, but eventually you get to the point where it isn't worth it.  If you already have your masters, is it really worth coming back?  Otherwise, I'd love to see a couple more transfers come in that could contribute right away.  Another OL would be nice, a DL would be great.

Totally agree!  There are rumors across Twitter that the new DC will be Wesley McGriff who is a dynamic recruiter and would be a huge get as well.

The creativity on offense is surprising.  All the top 4 teams display creativity, and we saw it today.  Why it isn't in the playbook is surprising.  We have the kids to it.  Heck, spend a day with in the offseason and pick coach Camerons brain.

  6. Moving forward, this team is moving the right way.  Big time transfers coming in, another strong recruiting class and another year to learn and develop.  What do you think the offseason storylines are?

    For me:

    1) What can Wellman and staff do.  Beleive it or not he was a big get and never could really work with the kids like he can post covid.  Many insiders will say he was an upgrade....and, those that left for Alabama were considered the best.

    2) Personally never a big fan of Wommack.  He showed improvments from year one, but many questionable calls throughout the year.  IU did have a great D, but today showed that he can't "disguise" well with uptempo D's.  This hire for a new D Coordinator is going to be huge!  Huge!

3)Can Sheridan open up the playbook more after reflecting on year one and having a different off season?  He will have three 4 star QB's in the room.

    4) With the new transfer rules and eligibility- Who stays and who goes?

    Go IU

To coaches out there are big kids being taught a pump fake and the up and under move.  I see so many bigs guys go up and getting their shots blocked in the KU game.

It's taught at the high school level, not college.  Go up strong or with your best move, counter move.

It has been said before that Knights players had to be taught to forget the pump fake in the NBA.

I for one, think the pump fake in the paint or shot fake are still the number one fundamental move all players should use beyond a triple threat.

All due respect, I don't understand the point you're making here...

If it's that the Zellers would overlook cheating in a program during one of the 3 kids recruitment, I think you'd have a whole lot of people who know the family personally that would argue that point...

Not saying that at all....I'm saying its about the relationship.  Cheating was going on at UNC at the same time.

My point is why wouldn't Zeller play for Sampson?  He is loved by his players and is an excellent coach.

I know Kelvin Sampson can coach basketball.

I just don't think he would have put the emphasis on academics and integrity that IU fans would like. Of course, winning would have won some over, but not everyone.

I just can't see a kid like Cody Zeller playing for him. We talk about team chemistry all the time. I'm just not sure it would have worked long term.

Could be wrong though...but I am glad he's gone.

Maybe not, but his brother went to play for Williams where guys on the team were taking fake classes, etc.

    Normally but not this year

No real way to say that as they are not facing anyone else.  Can't say they are not better or worse.  Maybe they are beating each other up.  Maybe early losses hurt chemistry and focus.  It's a tough conference and that shouldn't be taken away.

  11. Totally agree.  It's real and as Urban mentioned is real.  It's not just him, the coaching staff beleives in him.  Up and down the staff, this arguably one of the most most talented staffs in IU history.  It's going to elevate the program, and it has.

IU has a brand.  They have a + Adidas contract  and they have invested in the football program and keeps investing.  There strength and conditioning program is second to none and they are well respected amongst the high school community across the country.  We shouldn't underestimate the IMG academy connection as well now.

Hopefully, along with Allen, they pay the coaching staff.  And, continue to upgrade the practice facilities.

The product is now there, now it's time to prepare post covid, the gameday experience for fans.  They have a chance to capture a new generation to be hard core IU football fans.

no.  not saying it was a bad signing.  arguing whether he should be shooting 3s or not.  i did personally say that i feel like we need more guys in the 35-80 range than having almost all 90-120.

Unless a kid is in the McDonalds All American running like a Lander, Trayce, Romeo the ratings are meaningless, at least to me.  Green was in the 200's and there are draft picks every year of off the radar kids.

Give basketball players and kids with grit, then let them work with the strength staff and coaching staff and they will end up being special.

This kid is one of those - upside there.  Grit, IQ, work ethic there.  Fundamentals there and developing and only thing keeping him from top 50 ranking probably is foot speed (never seen hom play. Got thst from reading Snows response).  With that being said, kids loves to run the floor and probably gets down the court better than kids who run like deers.

Very excited about this one. Huge upside very bright young man. 4 year player that adds to the toughness we are building at IU.  Next dominoe should fall sooner rather than later.  Be shocked if we dont have 1 or 2 more around 1st week of May

This kid has tons of potential and is going to make an impact.

Agreed and that is really the conundrum. Archie's been able to get guys in the 80-150 range, plus Romeo (one year) and TJD (hopefully at least 2). But we lack guys in the 30-80 range that are really needed. But if I'm in that category and also being recruited by MSU or Louisville, it's a hard sell for IU. Talent is needed to win and winning attracts talent. With the gauntlet that is the Big Ten, it is a slog to climb the ladder. It's much easier at the moment in other conferences to show progress. There are only three Big 12 teams and four ACC teams with a winning conference record. B1G has seven plus two more at .500. Do I sign up for the potential of being at the back of the pack and missing the NCAAT if I have options with programs that are already winning at higher levels?

It's like Nebraska or Arkansas in football. You can hire and fire coaches repeatedly, but until something changes the momentum, you're irrelevant.

Archie's at a very challenging crossroads. Does he continue to follow the plan, with the type of players he's been getting, or is there pressure to go for the quick fix with several transfers/jucos etc, taking a risk on character/chemistry. That would require creating some space. too.

Basketball takes 2-3 players to turn around a program/momentum.  Issue is - is there a system in place to implement the players.
