Timing is everything. So many in the portal- how do you prioritize and how long do you wait.

Same issue with the IU kids that put their names in. How long do you wait on them? Have to believe the discussions have already been held with CMW.

IU is not in  position to wait it out if kids want to join the program.

So true - IU might call every recruit - doesn't mean fit will work.  Most in potal want to be used differently or have different playing time, or different exposure.  Some are in for the degree opportunity.

    It will all work out!

If true this is how it feels to me.

Would miss Franklin on a team I root for.  Fun kid to get behind and hope for success.  But, with that being said- if true, there is always a reason.  Guessing it comes down to wanting a situation to have the ball in hand and to be the guy.  With some of the returning players and rumored transfers, the ball will be going through the hoop with multiple hands.

Just want to reiterate this kid has been as easy of a kid to root for do to his toughness and leadership.  All kids are looking for different opportunities and hope he stays, but understand if he doesn't.

    - Most Importantly, he's a people person. Connecting with kids and coaches on a One-on-One level is everything. There is absolutely nothing on his resume (or personal record) that suggests that he can't connect with people. In fact, that seems to be an absolute strength.

From each and every interview, press conference I feel a genuine attachment to him.  Its like I knew him forever.  So likable, honest and real.  He has that "it" and its natural.

All that i have to say is IF this works after Howard at Michigan (NBA ties with an all-star staff) works then we may be seeing a shift in college basketball hires.

I'm always a fan of innovative/'out of the box' type thinking. I was skeptical about Michigan coming into the season, but they made it work. This doesn't mean their's is a fail safe plan, but it has worked so far....at least for Howard. The fact that we are imitating it and now EXPANDING on it is very interesting to me, not only as an IU fan, but a fan of CBB. I'm sure AD's across the NCAA are paying close attention.

Sure, we may fall on our face, but it may also pay off big time.

    Imagine this staff......
    Woodson - head coach
Matta (seasoned B1G head coach w/ two final 4 trips) in an administrative role overseeing recruiting and operations
Brown (the only coach in HISTORY to win a NBA and NCAA championship) in a non-traveling role assisting with game planning and player development

...and then a team of seasoned assistants. a combination of Kenya, Lewis, Fife, Cheaney, Roberts etc.

If we fail at least it won't be for a lack of effort or trying to push the envelope.

That would be a great staff/team.  I wonder if Lewis, who is getting alot of credit for his work at UCLA would be interested?  One concern could be is that he wanted the job.  Of course, that is just a guess on my part.  But, they would have everything covered - everything.

Agreed....it's why I'm dying to find out who our assistants will be....because Woodson connections and relationships with AAU coaches/high school coaches is no where near what we had before or going up against in the B1G. Now he does have tools some college coaches don't have...like NBA connections that he would be able to get kids feed back from...so there is that on his side. I am just worried about us landing the type of kids we need to win. If I see that I will feel a whole lot better because I think the coaching/development will happen.

    My opinion and assumptions

Indy will take care of Mike.  With all of the WWW, and other NY "big time" responses to those involved in the community there has to be connections.

From all reports, Thad has stayed connected - he will get you in the door.

Now, if Hunter stays on - the guy is a recruiter.

Roberts, sounds like he has been on the recruiting trail, but not sure.

Larry Brown, if brought in - he has been able to lure recruits at every stop.

The other position is real interesting.  Some of my favorite IU assistants in the modern era have been guys like Ben McDonald, Rupp, Meyers, Buckley.

I know the recruiting is a concern to some, but did Coach K really get Zion, RJ Barrett, etc.. to the NBA?   I am pretty sure if they could have gone straight from high school to the NBA they would have been first round picks!

Recruiting is about connections, relationships and lets be honest, fit/use and playing time.

    Everthing will be fine.

I don’t know what might have happened in the past but Jay Williams likes taking shots at IU. Even when Crean had good teams Williams had a way of making some jabs.

I hope I’m correct in my assumption that WWW doesn’t get within 20 area codes of Bloomington. Would be a really bad look.

I think it is an act and a little family rivalry

    Shaka Smart better?

Texas Longhorns (Big 12 Conference) (2015–2021)
    2015–16 Texas 20–13 11–7 4th NCAA Division I Round of 64
    2016–17 Texas 11–22 4–14 10th
    2017–18 Texas 19–15 8–10 T–6th NCAA Division I Round of 64
    2018–19 Texas 21–16 8–10 6th NIT Champion
    2019–20 Texas 19–12 9–9 T–3rd Post-season cancelled due to pandemic
    2020–21 Texas 19–8 12–6 3rd NCAA Division I Round of 64

you think you could at least wait to see with these results at Texas to make that comment.

People hire designers to design the unknown.  Henry Ford said, if I asked people what they want...they would say faster horses.

Some, not everyone, have the idea it should be someone with college experience.

Well, a guy like Mike Woodson would only coach college for one job, and one job only.  Otherwise the NBA, the best in the world, wanted him.

This is a grandslam hire, one I wanted from the start.

I mean, reports have been Brad Stevens lost his team sometime last year.  You can dissect anything and spin it anyway you want.

See the unknown, and that is this could and should be the most important hire since Knight.  And, Dolson knocked it out of the ballpark.

It's not like he was hanging out with AAU and high school coaches in those markets.

AAU coaches, who are usually from the regions, know who your local NBA staff is.  Not going to go back any forward on this.  But, this in one thing I do know.  In Chicago, tickets are provides for the development league affiliate.  There are connections, and some get to watch practices.  Okay, pulled over while driving to check the boards.  Going to get back on the road.  So pumped!

I definitely had Woodson at the top my list - I really feel his coaching record was not remotely correctly interpreted...

If rumors are true, the staff will be incredible.  Read on twitter maybe Tad will take an admin role?  Keeps getting better.  Dolson didn't only go after his guy, the IU family's guy...but an entire program.  Wow!  And, media has to be jaw dropping, especially if Tad rumors true.

I feel like I remember hearing about somebody moving around in the husky/safety/CB area.  Maybe Fitzgerald getting more time at safety with Ball coming back?  Can't remember exactly what it was.

Wouldn't surprise me if there's some other movement in that group.  Seems like we have been changing a guy our two from safety to CB or from CB to safety the last couple offseasons.

How big would it be to have Fitz and Ball on the field at the same time?  Huge!

OL has some youg talent and the transfer and will have some different schemes with coach coming back with some NFL plays.

The qb room is deep and wonder if there will be some tweaking to get more athletes on the field.

Allen has said he'll be ready for week one vs. Iowa.  I am sure someone will ask during spring practice whether he is still on track for that.

Anyword on any position changes?  Always interesting to hear about who is being converted to play somewhere else.

If you can listen to it via podcast I think last week when he has Matt Taylor from the colts on at the beginning of the show he didn’t realize they were live or something he said he hated covering this team or something like that because Archie has no f’n personality.

The media is getting tired of Archie thinking he is bigger than the job.  I'm sorry, but part of the job is to get on the circuit and particpate in shows.  Why does Illinois coach and Creighton's coach get interviewed on indy radio more than IU's coach.  Why is Roy Williams, UCLA's coach, etc on Chicago radio?  They do it because it is part of the gig.  Not watching Netflix.

    Just saying.
