Weirdly enough I actually thought about this but I just don’t see him willing to do that.

I could see it for a kid planning his future.  Like, if I know I am a good college player but probably never going to be in the NBA, I take the redshirt for an extra year of free college.  He could have a graduate degree completed in 5 years if he went the accelerated route through the summer.

Not disagreeing but I get why people could see it as a bad sign.  With losing Liam and not understanding what dead period means people will run with it.  Also it seems He’s spent a lot of time not fully doing his job so people are on edge to see results.

Nah, we are going to land players and people are going to spend from about May to November talking about how great all the dudes we have are and how deep we are and then we find out what the score really is starting in November.  Without even seeing our roster, my guess is borderline tournament team.  We will make the tournament and flame out in the first weekend and Mike Woodson will be praised for doing something with millions of dollars that Bob Knight did with Lynn Washington, Larry Richardson, and William Gladness as his big men....and yeah, yeah, unfair to compare Woodson to a hall of fame coach but that is kind of the point isn't it?

    22-12 is your over/under.

Gladly eat crow if I am wrong.

True, and now we get to see if it would have worked out. Kinda of like an experiment or something. I admit I’ve been a little ambivalent about May myself, having been burned by Archie. I guess the broader point I was trying to make is that I think for those who aren’t True Fans, every win that May gets, or God forbid any recruits he gets from the State of Indiana, or any losses to Michigan, just ratchets up the pressure that much more on Woodson. In my opinion, however, this proves that May was there for the taking, and I think we were at a very logical place to make a coaching move. It’s clear we are all in on Woodson now.

All in on a 66 year old in his fourth year with zero recruits who needs to slap half to slightly more than half of his roster together in the portal with special extra money from 2 dumb@ss billionaires that support the school because he hasn't done half his job all year.

I mean it is possible to win the hand 4 suited and needing to pull an inside straight, but that generally isn't the hand you want to go all in on.  Yet here we are.

Everybody who was in on making this call shouldn't be afforded the opportunity to pick the next coach if he fails.  They should all follow him to unemployment.  All of them.

i am bummed about this because he seemed like the most likely candidate that could be here for a long time.  at the same time, we can't risk making the wrong decision again, so i would prefer a proven winner at a power 5.  so now what after next year?  Pearl?  still say Beard, but know we won't.

Beard is never going to happen and I believe you are currently standing on shore and watching the SS Pearl pass you by.

I fully expect May to do well at Michigan because Indiana is once again a day late and a dollar short on doing what is probably inevitable anyway.  What are the odds we are sitting here 4 years from now saying, "If only we would have moved on from Woodson in year 3 when everyone realized he wasn't putting in the effort"?

Stuff like this just lowers my already poor opinion of everyone running IU. Maybe we can have Purdue go on a Final Four run and put an exclamation point on their ineptness.

So I don't know how to take the numbers of these dudes from tiny conferences.  In that picture it looks like his team played Duke.  What did he put up in that game?

Peyton Sparks had really impressive numbers at Ball State and he got here and a bunch of people are happy to see him go.  The guys putting up numbers at sub 150 NET schools are all suspect to me.

I went and looked up the Duke game.  He scored 23 on 11-17 shooting but went 1-2 from 3 and had zero assists and 7 turnovers.

ETA:  It looks like they mostly ran a 4 guard offense.  So my assumption is that throughout the year he was getting quite a few points by going to the rim.  I don't know how easy that is going to be with a Woodson offense as he will be dribbling into the 3 to 4 guys that are guarding Reneau and the "rim protector" we are told we need.  So I would cut his ppg in half when evaluating him.

That’s him. They need more than just starters and he was a freshman this year.

I know they need more than starters, half the team is going to be gone (if not more).  I saw the kid scores and had a big game in their conference tournament but this dude was an unranked HS senior who played for an absolutely terrible team in an equally meh conference who hasn't played 1 minute against a P5 team.  I guess I am just flabbergasted that this is considered the way to do things as opposed to going out and getting a HS kid.  This dude is 1 year removed from HS and....

Oh forget it.  This honestly isn't even about him.  If we were bringing him in as a backup on a team with a competent coaching staff I would probably like the upside.  I have to be honest with myself and just say I have lost all faith in Mike Woodson.  He could be bringing in Jordan and LeBron and I don't think they would help him and his staff get over the hump.

It is going to be a long year between now and March 2025.

Portal opens tomorrow and there will be tons of names enter over the next few weeks. That said IU has had some early talks with Jacob Meyer. I’m also watching what happens with Small and Foster. We’ll see what happens. As of now Trilly did say that IU hasn’t gained to much traction yet with transfers but it’s still VERY early.

    https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5176795/jacob-meyer

    This guy?

Not to bag on the kid and what do I know but I don't trust Woodson or this staff to do anything that is going to make mid-major players look good here.  He needs Love and Ware caliber players to have a chance IMO.

ETA:  And if it is that guy, Coastal Carolina lost over 20 games and I don't think I saw one P5 team on their schedule.  If this is what we brought Woodson back for and he sees more value in this than in recruiting Freshman, then he is a bigger idiot when it comes to college basketball and building a program than I thought (and I have a pretty low opinion of that to begin with.)

Please tell me I have the wrong Jacob Meyer.

    My fear….

Next year we play a similar style and squeak into the tournament. Then what?

    Not enough to be fired.

Stuck In mediocrity for another year with another roster to rebuild.

This is the worst case scenario, IMO. It’s not the bad that scares me - It’s the in between good and bad that scares me. .

Basically the Pacers in the NBA.  Just staying in that 6th to 11th place in conference so you are always competing to be in the playoffs but rarely being good enough to really compete for a title and rarely bad enough to go out and get a few years of high draft picks to build to one.  It is a good place to play for if you are a journeyman looking to cash some checks though.

The fact the Simons are involved in both the Pacers and in keeping Woodson should terrify everyone.

7 new faces sounds better than running back any version of this.

Be careful what you wish for.  The programs currently kicking our ass take players like Cupps and make them good enough to compete by year 4.  We don't develop and run them off.  No continuity.  Cupps leaving would be a bad barometer IMO.
