Ware's going pro, but retain Malik, Mgbako and Galloway. Recruit the portal to fill around them, and McNeeley, with skills that balance the roster. Go all in on the '25 class over the summer and give us some promise for the future. Realize after a rough season that your coaching will need to adapt to play a winning style of basketball.

There's a path there. I make no assurances it will happen, or even that it's likely, but this what I hope to see. A year from now we'll have our answer, one way or another. I don't see the worth in getting upset about bad things that haven't happened yet. I love Indiana Basketball, but it's just a game. When my team loses it just means I didn't get to enjoy a win, doesn't affect my life any more than that. So I'm going to hope Woodson makes the most of this opportunity right up until I'm proven wrong.

I think the upset will wear off quickly.  I am annoyed by the news at the moment, you know what I am not doing right now, having my full attention on the meaningless game going on in Minneapolis at the moment.  That is what will be the outcome.  Every year of crap ball means a few more people who wander away from the die hard fandom.

Did they open fire last night or was it a warning shot? We don't really know that part.

I think the initial was a warning shot and Buckner doubled down and now it is all out.  (Outside looking in, I have no inside info).

This looks like office politics and people jockeying for the narrative.  Rabjohns was the brush back pitch, the contract stuff and everyone unloading on Quinn is throwing at the head.

If only someone on this board had warned you all that he would be nothing more than "yes man" Dolson if given the job.

I don't think he is being a yes man at the moment.  There is very clearly a power struggle going on and Dolson/the AD opened fire last night by releasing the media and getting in front of the narrative.  The leak of the contract change, everything Rabjohns posted, that is all coming from the AD.  Dolson is playing politics right now and he has a bit of a propaganda leg up on Quinn in that his people are in contact with these recruiting sites and media members far more often than Quinn would be w.r.t. IU athletics.

A yes man would be putting out stuff to support Woodson.  It is clear that someone at Indiana (most likely Dolson's department) chose war.

I had read the same info as mentioned and summarized like this:

Skipping recruiting days over the last 3 years.

Recruits hearing from other HC more than Woodson.

Needs major help from the portal to overhaul a roster.

Choosing to pursue "ready-made" players instead of recruiting and developing HS kids

Woodson publicly stating 2 point shots are good while having one of the worst 3 point rates 3 years in a row.

HS, AAU, and other coaches/trainers have heard very little from a certain HC over the course of 3 years.

It's March of year 3. It took until Feb. for Woodson to go see Sisley and Mullins, two of the top in-state prospects and he didn't see Mullins in a game until the sectional semifinals.

Told Boogie Fland "Boogie, again, I cannot promise you minutes because I am anticipating that Xavier Johnson may be getting a seventh year..."

I am literally just reposting what was posted on BTB and based on what Rabby has been posting.

I think that last one was a joke.

    What is a broadside?

Really criticized him in a way you don't normally see those guys do if they want access.  Took him to task for, in so many words, basically being kind of lazy about recruiting.  Again, that isn't first hand as I don't have the premium with Peegs but that is a Reader's Digest take on how I saw it presented.

Those people aren’t likely to change between now and the end of the year…imo we will win a game or two more and lose a couple…nothing major will happen. Either you know a change is needed or you want another year to decide. Can’t see people changing their mind at this point. There is enough evidence on both sides…he’s coached 3 years and plenty of tape…he also has 4 recruiting classes now (if Liam is all we are landing)…so while the program maybe has stabilized some is there any momentum moving it ahead? People should know where they stand on that at this point.. couple games won’t change anything.

I don't disagree.  My mind is made up.  There are people who aren't though.  And some who aren't in the "we need to move on" category have some influence.

And you also have to factor in that this is just message board tea leaves reading and people tend to build their own soap operas based on the info they have.

I agree. And I am not sticking up for Woody. He was a reach hire to begin with (zero college experience) and most thought a stopgap. PU has had some "down" years in 2012 to 2015 and had a crap year in 2020. I am not saying Woody shouldn't be let go either, but at some point good coaches have down years, and IU has been mediocre for a long time, so it' not super surprising we're having a down year now. Woody did screw up this roster and if what you read about recruiting is true, he doesn't seem like any sort of grinder and you definitely need that nowadays. Hopefully things work out for the best regardless.

I don't have Peegs access but apparently Rabjohns delivered a broadside on Woodson this afternoon specifically related to your last point.

i don't know. i feel like there was a decent amount of people who were pumped because he was an alum and had NBA experience.  no?

That was just cope after the hire was made.  I think that has happened with the past few hires.  Initially you have a bit of reticence because of X,Y, and Z but I think deep down most of us want things to work here.  So after the initial disappointment or questioning of the decision, most fans start looking for reasons to get on board.

All the respect in the world as I've stated...but which players? Pre or post internet? If it's post I don't know if I take their opinions with the winning ways.

Internet has been around over 30 years.  Even the "You've got mail" players are approaching 50.  I don't think 60 and 70 year olds are as in tune to the modern realities of college athletics like the younger guys.

Cool! Appreciate the follow up. I know nothing at all. However I would say this. The very people who know so much might be part of the problem the last 2 decades. We have to be the only fanbase in the country that worries about attending high school sectionals. Of course one or 6 of the tribe will come along and say ahh yes. The fans fault. I will offer this. Doing it the same way over and over again?

PS...if Woody is still here. Both Sisley and Mullins are Hoosiers. I'll also add JH to the list but the great part about this board is able to have differing opinions right....even if one side of the teeter totter is a bit heavy.

One of the players parents liked a tweet questioning why the Indiana coaches were not out the other night.  Showing up is a big part of recruiting whether you want to acknowledge that or not.  The kids these days want to feel the love and have a connection with staff.  There are other things that factor in too, obviously, but denying that presence plays a pretty significant part is just denying reality.

Ihave feeling guys like Trilly just likes to troll our fan base. They know we are gullible and want any kind of info we can get. He probably puts this out there and watch our fan base and probably laughs his head off to our reaction. It is just like when people said they saw Donovan in Bloomington and we're following vehicles thinking it was him.

Also if this is true why hasn't any actual basketball media outlets reported any of this.

I don't know, be a bad way to build a following for content you charge money for.

    We're a football school now...:)

Maybe.  Cig hasn't coached a game yet (although so far so good).

The point being that the Big Ten is wide open for the taking right now.  Purdue and Wisconsin aren't really big mountains to climb for a good coach at Indiana.  Izzo is trending down.  Michigan is in a bigger rut than we are.  Ohio State is starting over.  Maryland is in the toilet.  UCLA's coach wants out because of lack of NIL resources.  None of the other PAC schools really move the basketball needle.

That is what is so frustrating about this.  Get a coach who knows how to do this, give him what he needs, and get out of the bleeping way.  We have sucked horribly and we are still pulling the best talent in the league.  We just need to commit to getting THE guy (and I don't think there is just one guy out there, probably several would do well here.)

Not trying to be that guy but since the discussion about firing Mike Woodson involves speculation about potential coaching candidates I can't help wondering why Bruce Pearl would want to leave the SEC? The SEC is either number 1 or 2 for the most current NBA players. The SEC overall plays a style of basketball that is decent to watch unlike the BIG Ten which is simply put "straight garbage." I say that while I continue watching BIG 10 basketball because that's what I'll do until I die.

Would you rather watch the top 2 teams in the Big 10 play or the top two in the SEC? One game would involve watching a 7'4" player hack everyone death, a free throw disparity of 4 to 1  and Brad Underwood pulling a choke job in the last 8 minutes. While the other would involve modern day basketball both offensively and defensively.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't recall a decent coach leaving the ACC, BIG 12 and or SEC for the Big Ten in the last two decades. Maybe there was 1 but I think that proves my point. If some says Brad Underwood may god have mercy on your soul.

Lastly, the Big Ten is not place where NBA talent guards and the best NCAA coaches want to go. If we fire Mike Woodson most likely we will end up with another unproven coach from a mid-major conference. Does that mean we should want Woodson? No, it doesn't but in my opinion the issue will always be roster construction with any coach we hire until the BIG decides not to play bully ball. Change should occur but the type of change we desire for Indiana Basketball will always be limited by the Big Ten.

So to take those negatives and make them positives.  He sees a basketball centric school in a basketball centric state that has resources allocated to basketball (even when things are going bad) that can only be matched by a handful of other schools in the country.  He believes it is a sleeping giant in a conference that is going to be the only truly coast to coast conference in the country and that conference just happens to be in a position where if he gets rolling he could put it in a chokehold like Kentucky used to do to the SEC.

As a cherry on top for the ego stroke, he knows if he gets this turned around that he immediately becomes royalty in the state.

Pearl's name has come up before the Crean hire, the Archie hire and the Woody hire.

I always assumed that the school thought there were instances he flirted too close to the line (regarding NCAA rules). But  I can't remember the details that surrounded narrative.

You do have to wonder if Pearl's a good enough candidate now, then why wasn't he the 3 previous times?

    The rules changed.

Probably a really good thing.  This roster is very bad.  Just hope we can get a coach that can recruit the portal and get shooters and makers.

No it isn't a good thing.  If we lose Walker, Johnson, Leal, Galloway, Gunn, Ware, Mgbako, and Banks that is 2/3 of the team.  Having to fill 8 positions out of the portal in year 4 is a recipe for another failed year.  That is the kind of turnover you do in year 1, not year 4.  "Hey coach, I know you want me to come play for you.  Can you tell me why most of your team is running from you?"

That looks like a sinking ship.  Good luck getting anybody here that is here for more than a payday.
