Is this something you want or do you have info no one else has?  8 new players came in this year, why would anyone want that much roster turnover every year? You will never get any consistently replacing that many players a year!

That's one thing I've noticed on here. Some of the same ones on here wanting the Coach fired are also wanting all the players gone, it just doesn't add up to me. Which is it the players or the coach or do we just want to keep starting from scratch every year? There will never be any stability if we keep overhauling every 3-4 years.

I don't know if you want it but I won't be surprised if you get it.  You have 2 guys that think they are pros now.  Several graduating and several who are going into their third year who just heard their coach say, "We need to go get some guys" after their last loss.  If I am Gunn and Banks I hear that loud and clear and I am out.

I agree with Derek. Some people's mindset is they are done with Woody after 2.5 years. Seen enough, you can't fire him fast enough. Same people think they are good fans because they don't accept mediocrity. But to have a great program, you have to have a great coach and great players. But what really good coaches or players (without real strong ties to IU) read that stuff/hear this noise and want to come to IU (when they can go anywhere)? You can count on two hands the programs that make the tournament every year. IU isn't one of them and hasn't been for 20 years. That is the reality. No amount of social media trolling or forum complaining is going to change that. The best way for IU to get better players and coaches in the future is for Woody to do as well as possible while he is in the position. If the fans run him out the door after one bad season, that is not helping the program. If this year ends bad and next year is also bad then this issue will take care of itself. The fans don't need to push the issue. Our job is to support the team so players and coaches will want to come to IU.  Furthermore, this team goes into the year as a bubble team at best. Four new starters. We are locked in with two games with Purdue. We had no chance against Purdue this year. They are up and we are down. Plus, we kicked their a** last year (so they are not looking past us). We have injuries, they don't. We have the last two years NC teams plus Auburn. Last year we had Kansas & Xavier on the road. Plus UNC and Arizona. Very few top programs schedule like that. We schedule like a top 10 program. Only go after top recruits like a top 10 program. But have been a bottom half of the conference team (except last year). We probably need to adjust our ego a bit.

    Also:

IU Fans (in the off season) We have to play multiple marquee games in non-con because we are Indiana. It is great that we are. Crean was a fill in the blank because he didn't.  I love the schedule. I can't wait until we add Kentucky too.

IU Fans (during season): We have to fire the coach because he gets blown out too much.

IU has already played 4 games against top 5 opponents. Other teams:

    Houston - 0
    Purdue - 1
    UConn - 0
    Arizona - 0
    Auburn - 0
    Tenn - 1
    UNC - 1
    Iowa State - 1
    Marquette - 1

Only top 10 teams to beat a top 5 opponent: Purdue & Iowa State

Let's bring this back to reality a bit.

    #WoodyQuitPlayingWeirdLineups #GetGuardsThatCanShoot #GoHoosiers

I don't have enough time to truly address this at the moment, but I swear to everything that is good and holy that I hope all the "you fans suck and are the reason we can't win" people would get the support that truly means.  If everyone at the school and around the program has bought into the idea that this program is Minnesota and should be treated like it, then that means it should get a bunch more indifference from the fans as opposed to the ungodly amount of support and money it receives in contrast to the wins and entertainment it delivers.

Things that let people like Derek Elston have a podcast because lord knows guys like him don't at the type of program he wants Indiana to apparently be.

yeah.  in hindsight i probably should have voted Galloway.  might have been Ware had he not sat so long?

Honestly, I refer back to what I said above.  When you lose, I don't think anyone should get to be the MVP.  Everybody sucked last night.

so i totally believe that Woodson will not be fired after this season.  my question is - if we got 16-15 and then lose in the first round of BTT to end 16-16 is there any chance that he is frustrated enough to step down?  coupled with all the grumblings?

Doesn't sound like it to me.  He is going to want to prove that this year was a fluke.

I’m a realist, not a pessimist or optimist.  Realistically, as of now, I don’t think we’ll be favored in any of those games.  I can see us beating Nebraska because they haven’t been good on the road.  But I would have to go under 2.5.

So a 16-15 final record and likely starting over from almost scratch next year.

I think we see at least 6 new faces next year which provides for another built in excuse....but hey, about another month and we are on to the only part of the season that matters at Indiana anymore.  The delusional season where we convince ourselves that all these new guys are awesome and we are finally gonna turn it around next year, just you see.

The tournament committee has shown time and time again they don’t value conference tournament wins the same as regular season. We want in we need multiple quad 1 wins and no more bad losses….else we better make it to the finals of B1G tournament. They want to see wins vs quality opponents…tournament quality teams…and those we have few if any at all.

The only way we are getting in the tournament is if we win the Big Ten tournament.  We are on the outside looking in at the NIT right now.  And frankly, I hope we don't end up in that.  It doesn't hold the value it used to from a development standpoint with the portal these days.  I expect over half this team to be gone next year.  Who cares if they get a few more games together.

Partially fair. But for this game he was mostly positive during the PT he was given.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Honestly, this is wrong thread for me.  I don't think the losers deserve to have an MVP pick.  You lost.  You all sucked collectively.

^^^ So what is the difference?  Would Woodson do a better job if he had less talent?  I really don't think so.

Coaching and culture...which is part of coaching.  People don't like Dakich and he is a dick, but he has had this pegged for a few years now.  How much money do you think Xavier Johnson made this year?  Ware?  Reneau?  Outside of Edey I bet you that Indiana probably has the next 5 or 6 guys earning wise between these two teams.  The NBA is the desired destination and they still get paid and treated like rock stars.  Wins are kind of meh.  Nice to have but nothing goes worse for our players if they don't win.  They are treated among the best in the country.  Pampered, silver spoon players who aren't forced to push.  They get really nice participation trophies no matter what.

    Same with the staff.

(I am annoyed this morning if you can't tell)

i don't even understand.  who is that dude?  and does he mean if none of the fans care that our program will find glory?

Podcaster.  Leading edge of the the soon to become louder chorus of, "Indiana fans are terrible and just expect too much and hurt the program" chorus we are going to hear again.

It won't happen right away but man I would love for people like this to get exactly what they want.  NIL and donations dry up, nobody supporting their podcasts, 4000 people at games, nobody talking IU basketball online.  3 years of that and they would be pissed that there is no one there supporting the boys anymore.

I stopped giving to Indiana a long time ago.  They are poor stewards of the investment.  When all these middle aged fans start making that switch, all the people that suck at the teat of IU basketball fan support will have to go and get real jobs.  Then they can tell me how bad all that fan investment was.

They should stop showing up and stop saying anything on line and see how it goes.  Drop that monetary support and that huge online presence down towards the bottom of the Big Ten (where the team actually performs) and then they will have all the breathing room to go out and do better without those insufferable fans holding the program back.

Tongue firmly in cheek if that wasn't apparent.  The only thing "elite" about Indiana anymore is the fan support.  Our sh** administration should all be hung out to dry.  People going after the coach anymore are misplacing their anger.  Dolson hired him.  Buckner likely pushed him to the front of the line.  You want change at IU, start going after the good old boy network that runs the school.

Right on schedule.  I suggest that fans start taking all of this "you are too invested" talk to heart the next time one of those 812-855-xxxx numbers shows up on your caller ID asking for money.  "Man, I would really like to but I am told that I care about this too much.  I don't spend money on things I don't care about so I am going to have to cut you off so that my not caring can get us some wins.  Good luck though.  I am pulling for you in as indifferent a way as I can muster."

Could it be that a switch flipped for CJ?  He came in, knew that it was over which allowed his emotions to calm down and he simply started shooting like he is capable? If I am not mistaken, it looked like he wasn't jumping 40" off the floor to shoot last night. He saw a 6" openning and simply fired it up. And those shots looked butter!

He has done that at the end of every blow out he has finished in.  He is a garbage time MVP as someone else said.

I know that is a joke but I wouldn't want him to be the next pick either.  He doesn't like recruiting and he hasn't been a college coach in over a decade.  I doubt he would be the answer either.

it's possible i guess.  maybe we should all just believe and only post in the no negatives thread?  if we just post encouraging things to the players and coaches and not think bad thoughts it could be the difference?

Woodson gave up last night.  It got bad and he went and sat his @$$ on the bench and just waited for it to be over.  It is an NBA attitude.  "Welp, we just don't have it tonight.  Just got to get through it and do better in the next one."  It is part of why I don't like the NBA.  You got 80+ games and inevitably you have teams that know they don't have "it" and the whole organization acts like it.  That was Indiana last night.

I would have left Woodson in West Lafayette last night if I were Dolson but that won't happen.  So we are stuck with Woodson for next year, you better believe that the conversation on what this is not going to look like going forward would start bright and early this morning.  Hill would be off the payroll next year.  One half asleep guy on the bench is more than enough.  I am already paying for one washed up dude's retirement, I am not doing it for 2 anymore.

There are a few sucker fans out there who are likely going to have Dolson at their door at this time next year begging for another couple million to once again right the University's mistakes.  I hope they are smart enough to put some conditions on that money this next time.

Theres been some talk about what next year could look like, in a good way, if everything breaks our way perfectly in the offseason.

Theres been very little talk about what next year might look like if Ware and Mgabko are gone, Liam maybe decides he doesn’t want to be a part of this, and then we strike out on meaningful guard help in the portal. It could be awful next year just as easily as it could be a big rebound.

I am so dreading next year as a fan right now. Painful was a good word choice.

Our best players don't have state of Indiana ties and they all have a license to bail for better waters whenever they want.  We have 1 guy committed at the moment.  Even our best case scenario is a total roster overhaul.  And then you know what happens, "Well, we have so many new faces and it is going to take awhile to get them all on the same page.  Woody's defense is really hard to learn."  I guarantee you will be seeing that kind of stuff after the first bad loss in November or December.

Season's not over yet, but just like last year, people are shoveling dirt on us...Let's see where we are at the end of the year how about?

Your second paragraph, I assume you're talking about shooting? At the risk of repeating myself, and this is the last time I'll do so, I think Mike Woodson is guilty of one thing...Loyalty to his kids...He counted on X and Galloway to provide leadership and outside shooting (Galloway DID shoot 46% last year from 3, and X 37%). So far, the young frontcourt has pretty much held up their end of the bargain...And hopefully Trey Galloway can continue the leadership he showed in the 2nd half of the OSU game.

I know the season isn't over but the clock is ticking.  Someone posted earlier this week that we are currently on the outside looking in of the NIT conversation.  Time is running out.  I think our NCAA hopes are dead if we don't win tonight.  We still have tonight though so it isn't out of the question.

We all knew we need guard play.  That isn't just shooting.  It is handling and dribbling penetration as well.  Yeah, he was grade A stupid putting the hands of the program solely at the feet of Xavier Johnson.  You can go back this summer and find all sorts of hot takes from all sorts of people saying we needed to get more guard depth.  He left a scholarship on the table and brought in a bunch of forwards.  Those are the types of decisions that get guys fired at just about every level.

It was a dumb move.  He is going to get another year because of the Indiana ties but the seat is going to be on fire if this year ends on the current trajectory and the first few games next year look anything like the past 3.  I hope he figures it out because I am beyond tired of hot takes like, "Purdue is the old Indiana you used to like" and "Indiana is like the 4th best team in the state."  The way this program has been run into the ground the past 24 years should be a cautionary tale on how to destroy your brand.

One more decade of mediocrity and the program is starting all over from square one.  We are about there now.

And yet, he was able to do in his first year what his predecessors, both long time college coaches, hadn't done in the last 6 by making the tournament, and his second year was able to beat Purdue twice, something those experienced college coaches hadn't done in their last 9 attempts, guide us to our highest Big 10 finish since 2016, and secure our highest NCAA tournament seed since 2011-12...

    Those are the facts...

People are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts...

Fair enough.  He also has led us to a NET and Kenpom rating lower than his most recent predecessors except the guy who took over when the University gave itself the death penalty.  Also facts.

It hasn't gone well this year.  It hasn't gone well because Woody failed to address the things that every idiot IU fan on message boards and Twitter recognized as their glaring issues since Woodson got here.  And now we are in the middle of what appears to be a stinker of a season because the only people who apparently couldn't see the problem are the experienced NBA coach and his staff making combined millions of dollars.

He will get another year but it really sucks to have to have a 65 year old "figure out" what a bunch of moron fans have known for 3 years.

Seems to be one at North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas.  It could and should be here too.
