  1. Recruiting doesn't always make sense though. Just be careful with the idea that Indiana should be in the driver's seat. We have a tendency (like you said) to take the crimson colored glasses view and then when it doesn't work out, there is a huge freak out. This would be a really nice pick up, let's see how it plays out though.
  2. Too busy playing Ms. Pacman is the rumor I heard.
  3. Inside the Hall is saying he is. https://www.insidethehall.com/2023/04/27/miami-fl-transfer-anthony-walker-begins-official-to-indiana-today/ Anthony Walker https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4592205/anthony-walker Stats don't really move the dial for me. The highlights look like maybe some stuff to work with but who knows.
  4. I really feel like all the angst goes away if we land a 2/3 for people to get happy about. Not saying we get him, but if like the Vandy kid picked here everyone is suddenly pretty happy with what we have IMO.
  5. Sustained success. I think that is the biggest thing, especially when trying to go and get guys that aren't in the area. 18 year old kids from the South don't know much about Indiana basketball and what they do know is media driven misperceptions that probably don't help either.
  6. Absolutely, which is why I don't criticize people who bring what they think is good info to a board like this. I sometimes question the people feeding them the info, but not those sharing it. That being said, you need to take all the info with a heavy dose of the Morton girl's product.
  7. I think that is close to accurate. Even the coaching staff isn't 100% until a kid commits. So any, "He's a lock" or "He is a heavy IU lean" stuff is just speculation that is probably coming with a heavy IU bias. It is entertaining to get the info and it gives you an idea what the staff may be thinking, but again, unless your source is the player or someone really close to them, you are probably just reading tea leaves like everyone else (but you may have a little better view of some of the leaves). Leave it at that...it would be nice to wrap up portal season so we can start arguing how big a leap Gunn and Banks are going to make this summer.
  8. Speaking for myself, I don't get the shakes for insider info. I think it is entertainment only and the info we have gotten from "insiders" since Woodson got here has been mostly suspect. I think the person (people) that leak that info have a too rose view of where Indiana realistically sits and then when the "it's a lock" stuff falls through, it drives really negative reactions in some of the fan base. People need to start viewing the info as, "Initial79 says player X has liked, friended, followed several Indiana related individuals which would indicate a mutual interest" and when another poster comes and says that the staff feels confident about this player or that player is a lock, people need to realize that means the staff is feeling confident in how they sit for a player. Unless you are close to the actual player and getting info directly from the family, none of these people are true insiders until the kid has committed.
  9. Even worse, you are pushing our disease onto the next generation 😉 (I say our because my involvement in this thread means I am way too invested as well).
  10. More power to you guys, but the day I am combing through some guy's social media likes looking for any scintilla of information that he may be joining a sports team I follow is the day I reevaluate my life choices.
  11. Ok, wasn't sure on that. Most of the mocks I have seen have him going around 15 so I thought any chance of that would be less than a fraction of a percent. Just wondered if there was any chance that might be scaring guys off.
  12. Maybe a dumb question, has JHS hired an agent? I think he is gone but if I am a 1-3 coming from the portal, that is a question I have. The roster looks a whole lot different if he and XJ come back and if I couldn't get a 100% answer on that, it would give me pause as a 2/3. (And before anyone jumps on me and says there is no chance, I actually agree. Is that the perception out there among players though?)
  13. I know if I was rethinking things that I would totally be open about my thought process with a journalist who is going to run and tell everyone my every word. This may all be a bunch of nothing but any interview touching on the topic with the kid is useless. These dudes always give the answer the interviewer wants to hear.
  14. Right now, the better use of that money would be to dump it all into the Hoosiers For Good and just give it to the players if you are going to play the game at all. I bet the ROE on that would be far higher than any facility. Hey, you have amenities in a facility you will barely use that aren't as good as those guys. Will an extra $50 to $100k make you feel better?
  15. The football team isn't very good because of players. The paychecks from TV are the only thing that benefits IU right now. It is going to be next to impossible to build a consistently good program here. The best you can hope for is the Purdue lightning in a bottle coach with a new way to play the game type of approach once in a blue moon. Getting put in the division we did was no favor either. "We need support..." You have to have consistent winning for that. This program can't support the NIL money you would need to build a real winner now.
  16. I don't know what the total was for Cook Hall or when the Texas Tech facility was built, but the Cook's gave $15,000,000 spread out over 15 years to fund that facility. The commitment at the time would equal what is today a $20M commitment. They still have 2 more payments to make on that facility. When it was built, it was among the best in the country. Now we need to do it again. At a certain point, this is a waste of money for something that like 30 people at any given time get to enjoy. We are in an arms race with schools that make 10's to even about a hundred million more than Indiana. This is an unwinnable game.
  17. I think that talk will pop back up again but right now there are zero names connected with Indiana so what's the big deal?
  18. Make them employees then, shut down the collectives that are nothing more than money laundering that wouldn't be allowed for anything else, and then let the market actually go. Ohio State made $200 million and plowed all that money back into athletics. I am not saying the players cannot make money, have at it. I am saying that the professional teams that have become "college" football and basketball should be divorced from the schools and lose their tax exempt status.
  19. Things have changed so much the past few years that it is hard to get worked up over losing like a Ledlum. Kansas State cobbled a team together at the last minute last summer and ended up in the Elite 8. They did that with a bunch of guys we would have been fretting over in June.
