  1. But my point is, an ump gets that "right" 98% (your cited figure) of the time, no?
  2. I was just gonna work my way up the years til I got there 😁
  3. Not "a bad call" if you read the article... " In the final three innings, four Giants -- Longoria, Mauricio Dubon and Austin Slater twice -- went down looking on missed calls."
  4. Geez...the Yankees 1st base job hasn't changed hands a whole lot...the draft started in 66 I think... Chris Chambliss?
  5. Gotta go with Don Mattingly
  6. Take a look at this "The Giants had everything fall into place, but couldn't get it done. It didn't help, though, that Drake, a veteran umpire, expanded the zone. In the final three innings, four Giants -- Longoria, Mauricio Dubon and Austin Slater twice -- went down looking on missed calls." The Giants missed the playoff after losing this game. They were tied with the Brewers, but lost on a tie-breaker... And I know the article says "To be clear, they are not headed home because of a home plate umpire. The Giants had a chance to clinch a playoff spot before Sunday's finale" but you want every chance in that situation... I said it earlier, umpires can be guided by their biases, be it wanting to get the season over, or favoring another team...It doesn't take but a few close calls on balls and strikes to change a game...
  7. Tell that one to Armondo Galarraga...
  8. No, the not animated version of "Mulan." Porn is probably cheaper and has a better plot...
  9. Just ribbin' ya, Hoss... But if the Reds were in game 7 of the WS, down a run, bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, 3-2 count... Wouldn't you want the pitch called right?
  10. Ah, if you were king Scott, you'd be going to Midnight Madness in a horse and buggy, and bringing a kid to retrieve the ball from the peach basket.. 😁
  11. They are playing current movies that are supposed to be in the theater on PPV. $26 on DISH
  12. It's software. Software improves as it goes along. It won't be in MLB until it's nearly perfect...and it will be... As I said, my concern with human umpires and ethics is a real one...we all have our biases...
  13. I wish MLB would go to "a robot" to call balls and strikes... Keep the home plate ump, and just have a little indicator inside of his mask...Green=Strike, Red=Ball Just my opinion, but every "bad" call I've seen on the bases was totally unintentional...Just a matter of mistaken judgment Balls and strikes are different...Ron Luchiano even said in one of his books his strike zone could hinge on a few factors...How well he "liked" the pitcher, getaway day, etc... Three umpires come into a bar. They were discussing the problems of their occupation. One said: “Some are balls and some are strikes and I call them as they are.” The second said: “Some are balls and some are strikes and I call them as I see them.” But the third umpire said: “I see them coming across, and some are balls and some are strikes, but they’re nothing until I call them.”
  14. I can commensurate with her...it was me vs a wife and 3 daughters...10 years between numbers 2 and 3 ("I know you won't be happy until you get a boy!" The best laid plans...) We had a male dog, but when I would look at him, he looked at me like, " screw you. You had me neutered. I'm with them." Thanks. It's my favorite thread too.
  15. Yes he did, but again, via hit... He tried to steal home too, but was dead as a doornail at the plate...
  16. I'd bet Cobb did it too...
  17. Ah the memories... @Billingsley99 this might be the same Destin Beach in your earlier pic, albeit a few years prior
  18. Great looking family! And as @Billingsley99 said, congratulations on the newest addition! Enjoy them...seems like the blink of and eye and they're grown...
  19. That is one handsome young man...Bet his name is on more than a few girls' notebooks with a heart and an arrow running though it...
  20. I wonder if they filled in the trenches The Babe made between innings...
  21. She looks like a purebred Boxer... Had a female brindle boxer back in the 90s that was a great dog...very protective of the family though...she didn't cut strangers a husk at all...
