Then its bad coaching. they didnt develop them.
We can play the back and forth all you want. I'll throw up something and you'll hit it back with something that is clearly just designed to be anti-Woodson.

So its bad recruiting then?
Nope. It's one of those things that happens. No coach is perfect when it comes to recruiting.

I’m more worried right now about getting a solid backup for Ballo than the empty 13 seat! After all he only averaged 26 minutes per game last year and heaven forbid he gets injured it’ll be like last season!😫 The minutes are there go get them coaches!
Reneau could grab a handful of those minutes if need be, but I don't like him as a full time low post 5. Honestly someone like Walker would be perfect. Doesn't need to be a scoring threat, isn't looking for starting minutes, but is a serviceable backup in the post.

Thank God Ted Valentine didn't have any offspring that followed in dad's footsteps.

Malone, Walker, Anderson, Goode?
Legit shot to land any of them?
Goode yes, Anderson likely not, haven't heard anything recent on the other two.

Yeah my crimson colored glasses that day were thick. Kid sucks.
"6'6 long athletic" should have trusted my initial evaluation.
Hey, you weren't the only one. I loved Gunn as a prospect also. A lot of people here did.
Wasn't trying to single you out, but the point I was trying to make with that is a lot of us have recency bias. Yes, Gunn didn't turn out, but there was a lot of people at one point that thought he would. In hindsight, yes, it's easy to say that "We absolutely needed another guard". Go back a year and while that's certainly not a bad idea, you've got two intriguing prospects that could potentially fill that role.

They still have a shot to earn playing time but there should have been more competition.
This isn't a church league. You play win, not make sure everyone gets a shot.
Nobody is saying it needs to be. But everyone acts as if they knew Gunn and Banks couldn't hack it at this point last year, when that simply isn't the case.
If Woodson cuts them, then they transfer and turn out to be serviceable if not good players, then he gets the "He can't evaluate talent, look, he let those two go and they turned out to be good" response.

They've also spent hundreds of hours in practice. Sorry, just don't buy the narrative that these two needed more time. They were in the program for 2 years. We're more talented now because they are gone.
They were in the program for one year prior to the start of last season, and sat behind 4 viable backcourt options. I'm not saying they should have stayed. In fact I think them transferring was the right move. What I'm saying is that going into last season, they weren't the disasters they turned out to be. They were much more unknown.

Chances aren’t given they’re earned. Gunn and Banks hadn’t done anything to have earned a rotation spot going into last year.
So the fact they didn't outplay a first round draft pick, an established senior PG, an upperclassman glue guy and a 4th serviceable D1 guard as freshmen means that they automatically aren't worth it?
Take hindsight out of who they turned out to be. You've got two 4* rated guards, one of them top 100 sitting behind the 4 individuals I just mentioned.

Banks and Gunn were not serviceable players at this level.
Yeah, recruiting rankings are wrong all the time, but neither of those two had a chance to establish themselves, and the biggest jump often comes between the freshman and sophomore year. They were behind X, JHS, Galloway and Bates, who did prove to be a serviceable high-major player at Mizzou this past year.

Absolutely
A freshman averages 9 minutes, 2.4 points, 2.1 boards, doesn't have enough of a sample size to truly evaluate his 3 point shooting.
Another freshman in a different year averages 20 minutes but only 3.6 points and 1.7 boards and shoots 18% from three.
Sounds comparable to Gunn and Banks, right?
Congratulations, you just cut Juwan Morgan and Trey Galloway.

It's all relative!! They should have been sent packing! Same thing with holding onto JG a year too long!
You're going to cut loose two 4* recruits after their freshman year?

Here's the issue I have.....it's not like Cupps, Gunn and Banks were the equivalent to the random guys Crean was getting to fill out a roster in '08. Cupps was Ohio Mr. Basketball and Gunn and Banks were both 4* recruits.
Did Gunn and Banks have much of an impact the year prior? No, but they were behind JHS who developed faster than anyone thought, X, Galloway and Bates, who wound up having a decent season at Mizzou. It's not like they were sitting behind nobodies either.
If you're recruiting 4* guards like Gunn and Banks, at some point....gotta see if they can play.

He already has a BA and MBA from Purdue so that’d be smart to get another degree from a school like Duke, get paid, and play for a good team.I would hope in his mind that he knows he isn't NBA material, so not as if he's trying to improve draft stock

Maybe he's like Goode and actually chasing a degree.

11 of the 18 B10 universities, 5 of the 8 Ivys, plus Duke, Stanford & Berkeley.
I find it hard to believe that every single one of those institutions has rampant antisemitism occurring.

This is a total off the cuff remark with no real life information whatsoever.....but Furst and Goode were AAU teammates.....

"going to go the way of the dodo" certainly sounds like you've had it a while.
So just because I say something is going to become obsolete/replaced, it means I've had that thought that long also?
I could say "With my new robotic mower that I bought yesterday, my old mower can go the way of the dodo". I obviously wouldn't have had that thought very long, yet it holds the same context.
Goode rumors have been flying since last Friday. He was in Bloomington for Little 5 visiting his brother.

Purdue & IU coaches thought they would have Ivey & JHS at least another year maybe two
Did MM go through draft process to get feedback? Actually like it when guys do this….better than listening to “handlers” or coaches . Plus as a competitor why not see where you stack up?I don't believe he did. He announced pretty quick that he was coming back. No need to go through the process if you know you're not ready.

we don't need to to keep an open scholarship. pick up a sleeper to take a shot on if nothing else.
If we're going to take a flyer on someone, make it an upperclassman. That way they're not tying up an open slot for too long if it doesn't work.

That's what I like with the way this roster has turned out. We can go really, really big with Ballo, Reneau, MM, Goode/Galloway and Carlyle, where the shortest guy on the floor is 6'3". We can also go really, really fast with Reneau, MM, Tucker/Goode, Carlyle and Rice. And there's countless combinations in between.
