I saw the passes and the times he drove to basket, but what really makes him special is his ability to score from anywhere on the court. A couple of the threes were from 5ft behind the line. He has a very quick release, which allows him to get his shot off against bigger more athletic players. Anyway, wish him the best and will keep an eye on Stetson. They could be one of this year’s sleeper teams.

And, oh by the way, how about our Hoosiers? The combination of our upperclassmen and this freshman class is very impressive….it should be a great year in Hoosierland!

Couldn’t agree more …bringing back every important player with two freshman who look as big ten ready as any we’ve had the last decade ….we are deep and skilled I just wish we had ONE 50/40/90 type shooter

This was only the second home non-con loss for FSU in like their last 48 home non-con games.
During the broadcast, they said that Leonard Hamilton, at FSU and Miami has graduated 101 of his 106 seniors. I really respect him as a coach.
Sad to see so few fans in the stands

Couldnt agree more …saw that stat flashed and thought of coach knight …thats an impressive number at fsu

Great to see Luke have a coming out party tonight, but I’m not surprised. He was an after thought at BSU, but its obvious he has the green light at Stetson to do what he does best….score. He went 7-11 from three against a good ACC team, and we were 4-11 as a team against an inferior Ohio Valley team. Time will tell how good he will be, but I wouldn’t bet against him. All I can say is I’m glad he didn’t go to another B10 team (like Wisconsin), so he could torment us.

Couldn’t agree more he would have been a solid upperclassmen contributor at a big ten school …the shooting was good but what makes someone his size capable of playing at any level are the passes like at 230 in first half and the inbounds pass that  goes back court about 35 seconds left in first half …if you have access to the game check those out !  Stetson was fun to watch and it looks like iu is gonna be even more athletic this year so should be lots of fun basketball !

I'm glad IU finally has a guy everyone  else wishes they had.  At least Race is a likeable  good sported kid.  I think he either took a redshirt or medical redshirted.

Yes, he reclassified to come to IU early but then redshirted his first season, at least partially due to a lingering injury from HS.

Pretty sure craft okayed 7 years at Ohio state and Brian cardinal played 8 at Purdue

Anyone know how the Luke Brown experiment is going at Ball St. I saw he had 6 pts the other night but has mostly struggled to get playing time this year. Would have thought he would be starting by now.

Ah, well we'd probably have to have @IU/Butler/Notre Dame make a special guest appearance for that 4-1-1 :D

    33% vs 31%.. his 2 is higher. I'm confused.

Sorry guys, my stepson is a senior at Blackford this year.  It’s a different experience for sure but they appear to get along well and enjoy the game even though they are obviously less competitive.  My daughter is a junior and my youngest is a first grader so the Purdue game is the only one I’ve seen live and I haven’t been on much.  Perhaps more surprisingly, I’ve yet to go to a ball state game as Blackfords schedule has almost entirely overlapped with bsu for home games.  I have recorded and watched every bsu game.  I still stay in touch with Luke’s dad and Luke’s roommate works at our local jail/sheriffs department and he plays basketball in our rec league frequently Luke has stopped with him twice but those are the only brief opportunities I’ve had to catch up at all.

The 411 is as follows.  Luke had a hip injury and they attempted to redshirt him but his transfer created some problems as far as how to effectuate it without losing commensurate time so they have chosen to simply build his minutes ( started around 8-12  the  northern Illinois the other night was his most at 17).  My guess is he will hit low to mid 20’s through the remainder of the mac schedule.  He has matched Bumbaloughs production the last two games while playing less than half the minutes which will start to show but the problem, as you all understand I’m sure, bumbalogh is the captain and leader of the team and he’s a great kid.  It’s tough to play a lineup with both of them for obvious defensive reasons so that will be something they have to game plan a bit.

As far as fit it’s head and shoulders above Stetson.  Bumbalough fought for brown to come and the other kids are very welcoming.

should anyone of you get a chance to watch a game MY observation ( this is not a brown family critique that was relayed) is that ball state had its already selected players then they added brown , Mickey Pearson ( a third year freshman from tcu) , Jaylen wyndem ( transfer from creighton ).  Coach Whitman has about 9 kids he has essentially promised 20 plus minutes and it leads to very sloppy 4 and 5 minute rotations where there isn’t much opportunity to get in a  rhythm.  Second they have a couple unselfish players but they have a very one on one offense with little ball movement. Looks like an indiana all star game …the first or second pass is gonna result in a shot.  Luke is feeling less worried about upsetting people as he’s gotten 5 and 7 shots up the last couple games so I think you’ll see him be a little more assertive moving forwards

assuming he continues to get closer to 100% my guess is he will end the season NOT starting but playing 23-30 minutes based on their current makeup and current operation.

side note ….PAYTON SPARKS…. He had a thread on here and I posted cause I saw him play six times.  Said he didn’t have the conditioning or aggressiveness for the big ten but had all the physical gifts.  Kid lost about 25 lbs of bad weight and they have him looking to score.  He has serval games around 20 points and 10 rebounds as a true freshman.  Kid is gonna be a stud and him and luke in 3 years are gonna be really really fun to watch

  6. Well ….brown wasn’t supposed to play till the 21 but the cardinals were down 30 so whitford threw him in ….played 3:30 and had six points on 2/2 shooting …ESPN announcers indicate he’s 4th all time in indiana scoring and one of the dip sticks says Larry bird is number 1.  The other guy says he thinks it’s Damon Bailey and they argue about that the next 3 minutes

None of the players that transfered are a really that big of a loss for the Hoosiers. Durham is having a decent season but shooting terrible, Hunter is just as bad for the Musketeers but shooting worse and Franklin has been pretty underwhelming especially his shooting. Brunk is  just a bench warmer at this point for OSU.

Basically what they were doing here 🤷🏼‍♂️

As much as I’d love that …I don’t think it’s happening.  He is missing 30-40% of the season by not redshirting, the coach pushed for him to get the waiver so I know he intends to use him.  He’s a smart kid but without being able to practice with the team I can’t imagine he’s going to play meaningful minutes or start until 3 or 4 games in.  I could be wrong and hope I am but there will have to be some learning curve for the offense.  I’ll predict first 20 point game or first 10 assist game will be five games in

    IU/Butler/Notre Dame/Ball St?

I deserve that lol ……Ya know thing thing about bsu ….I’m a ball state grad and I was there during their only recent ( respectively speaking ) run of success with rob Robbins petey Jackson and Theron smith …..but for whatever reason growing up on the other three I just never felt like they were “ my “ team.  I only went to one game in college and that was , you guessed it, the iu game AT bsu.  I’ll be going to games frequently now though so maybe I’ll made an edit 🤷🏼‍♂️

Smart player.  Tough kid.  Team oriented. Coach’s son.  He’s right out of central casting for an Indiana player.  Happy we got him.

For me ….as big a deal as getting the commitment is seeing the coaching staff actively look for someone that doesn’t check all the athlete boxes.  Woodson giving the green light here tells me he is better at evaluating the programs needs than the prior regime.  You can rarely go wrong with a hard nosed coaches kid who shoots and takes care of the ball.  I hope he grows more but if he stays 6’2 Woodson thought enough of those intangibles to risk giving him a spot and I find that impressive and refreshing

  11. For anyone who cares …update : brown did file for a medical waiver , if granted he intends to start playing in January.

also, vaunted class of 2021 is showing out.  Blake Wesley plays big minutes and leads notre dame in scoring with 21 first game ,  Jayden Taylor second on butler in minutes over 3 games and playing extremely well, Furst with starts for Purdue rebounding and defending well , etchison gets solid minutes and some production for western Michigan against Michigan state , Goode has been the leading minute getter for freshman for Illinois , waddell and Kaufman redshirting and it appears barnhizer may join them ( although my feelings won’t be hurt if he jumps in portal and heads to an indiana school )

That's if you agree with the analysts that labeled him a 5 star. Sometimes the small time assistant coaches turned recruiting analysts have guys pegged wrong.

No clue what the future holds for young Mr. Lander......just don't like the early narrative going on boards. Transfer,etc....he's 18. Let's give him a few months is all I want.

That’s fair ….I thought he had the athleticism and pedigree of a five start but I didn’t have him as a top ten or fifteen recruit …and you are right he’s still young, I also am speaking in generalities as I don’t have any background on his personality.  For all I know this is something that would put a chip on his shoulder and motivate him.  It’s an unfortunate assumption but the modern player hasn’t had a track record of showing that kind of patience or dedication.  Hope you’re right , won’t be shocked if I am

He's a freshman right? He may or may not earn his time but speculating on transfers 40 minutes into the season seems Kentucky like. Seems like our fanbase is hitting the negatives more and more....

Normally I’d agree it was nitpicky…and having forgone his senior year of high school knowing he’d get five years if he wanted them ….I would hope his own expectations would have been tempered but last year it seemed like he kinda didn’t get the time on the court he expected or felt he deserved …I think he was patient through that as a five star recruit but I think the speculation is fair he probably feels entitled to more than he’s getting and the new regime didnt bring him in and arent beholden to him.  I would bet it’s more likely to happen than not
