Well how are we supposed to know if he’s not that guy when he didn’t even get a chance to play. I watched him the entire warm up and he was hitting everything from 3. Looked very very ready to play!

Going back to even high school and aau he dominated by being quicker and more athletic than almost everyone he played …he jumps very well for his size too but his jump shot has always been a concern to me , not his accuracy but his shot process.  When open he hardly has any space between his feet and the floor and it’s not a ton different off the dribble.  I just don’t think he can get it off against college defenders unless he’s wide open and I don’t think he proved himself when he had those last year I have to assume it’s still that way in practice or Woodson would have squeezed him in

Fell in love with the three pointers and didn't attack the lane. Defense dropped off the table second half with a big lead. Didn't see a lot of leadership on the floor tonight. Game one is done and they got the W. Lets see if they can clean it up in game two.

And it’s weird to fall in love with something you’re 16% successful at 🤷🏼‍♂️

Completely caught the team and coaches off guard. That’s pretty much all I’ll say about it. He went out to eat with several players and all had a great time. The next morning the coach let them know he left the team. The team doesn’t have any hard feelings.

From that standpoint it is a shame because they had a couple solid back court players still developing josh with five years eligibility and mo who would be/will be a great post presence ….I think they would have had a great team especially within the conference

My roomie at USI was offered a basketball scholarship, got down there and after he got there and went through SEVERAL practices, the coach said "oops...I don't have a scholarship for you."  Was one of the shittiest things I've ever personally witnessed.  Obviously, he got recruited over, but seriously...you let a kid get on campus before you break that news?

Obviously, he quit the team at that point and was on a partial academic scholarship as an engineering major (smart kid).  I think USI tried to make a bad situation a little better, but it was a little awkward though as we were rooming in a quad with a graduate assistant and another freshman scholarship player.

Yeah i can’t believe he stayed

I've seen people bail quicker though. My roommate in college went to the first day of preseason conditioning and didn't come back for the 2nd day.

My Coach asked me where he was, I just said, "You might want to talk to him, I don't think he's coming back". He did stay in school though, just quit basketball.

    Was he on scholarship ?!

I don't know the kid, so mostly I feel like who am I judge, I really believe that, as it's really none of my business. But with that said, he didn't really give it much time. Having played college basketball, there are always going to be teammates that don't get along and returning players that give the new guys a hard time. It sounds like he really didn't give it much of a chance at all. I've had teammates I couldn't stand and then after one road trip where our coach had us share a room we became really good friends.

Seems like he was looking for an excuse to bail, which again is his business. We've all been there in some way or another, it just seems he

What’s the last part that got cut off ?  From what they told me it wasn’t a scenario that was going to lend to any success but I do agree since it was a combination of him missing being home it certainly made the decision easier

Fair enough.  Again, appreciate the insight.

Always ! I’m actually really looking forward to the next two years because along with IU the in state schools have at least intriguing teams and I have a reason to follow ball state again …next 4 years of indiana basketball looks like a bright future ( and yes unfortunately that means Perdue )

Appreciate the insight.  I could see that happening, although I would have respected him a bit more for sticking it out a year and seeing if he could make it work.  I mean...the 5th year senior would be gone after that.

Half of me really agrees with you because I think “ oh great one more thing for detractors to complain about “ but at the same time the other half of me is glad he didn’t waste a year of eligibility if it wasn’t a good situation.  The other kid would have been gone but I don’t think minutes were the issue I think it was somewhat a foregone conclusion he would start I think it’s more he didn’t wanna risk spending 3 or 4 years with people who might not like him

Hey, we did miss you...Figured you'd have the inside story on why he left Stetson...

I wasn’t there certainly but they’ve always been forthcoming with me in the past and it was described to me as a combination of two issues :  1. He got down there and truly didn’t like being away from home 2. They did a media session with him and made a video and posted it and of course he had quite a bit of hype ( deserved or not ) coming in and the two kids who were returning having one freshman conference player of the year and the fifth year senior didn’t seem to be fans.  Nothing negative was said about those kids but the impression I took was he was definitely not made to feel welcome.   I think he felt like with those two things combined he had people that liked him at ball state and it was right in his back door and certainly wasn’t worse than a lateral move in competition.

there is a poster here who knows josh smith from Monrovia well he would have good input because I’m only getting one side of the story

Starting to look like my wife’s academic transcript. Both of her (current) degrees are through Northern Kentucky, but she’s taken classes and has credits from Eastern Kentucky and UK. I joke that she needs to get at least one class or certificate from WKU, just to complete the compass.

Wait …and you married her 😳…like knowing about the kentucky attendance ?

That wasn't an even swap.  Houston wanted quite a bit more.  "Initially, it was reported that the Sixers offered a package centered on Simmons, Matisse Thybulle and draft compensation, but would not go so far as to include rookie Tyrese Maxey"

Im not saying Brogdon or Lamb are world beaters either.  Im down to trade them.  If they bring Simmons in somehow then Sabonis has to go and I don't think that happens.  You cant have two non shooter point forwards playing at the same time.

Back to Simmons.  Can he still be a number two guy on a contender?  Yes of he has 4 shooters surrounding him, which he did until Green went down.

You're not getting Ben Simmons for less than Brogdon and a 1st. I understand that his value is probably as low as its been, but he's still a multiple time all-star, a first team all-defense guy, etc., etc.

Three months ago he could have pulled an even swap for James Harden.

I wouldn’t be happy if that was the only trade we were making…it wouldn’t make sense given our current offense. We would have basically 4 guys starting that aren’t 3pt threats. I imagine we would be making further moves to best suit the team. I think everyone sees Ben is a point forward and probably best fits at the 4. Also if I’m going Ben and more defensive then I’m probably looking to keep Myles for rim protection and moving Sabonis for a scoring point guard/combo guard. We know Carlisle likes a defensive oriented team so maybe that would be the direction. Anyways I still don’t buy the trade offer because Pacers always operate on the down low and they wouldn’t want this out in the public hurting their relationship with their players.

Ben Simmons isn’t intelligent? I’ll agree he’s a head case but I think he’s a very high IQ player.

I wanna preface this by saying I want our lineup as constituted ( that we never got to see because of injuries last year ) to have at least half a season because I think as far as small market lineups go brogdon lavert Warren Turner sabonis could be dangerous enough to have a shot.

IF we made a trade though, which I don’t want ,  I’m with kob and BG on this one …..Simmons value even after the mess in the playoffs is at minimum brogdon and a first.  I also think that as you all pointed out brogdon warren and lavert aren’t perennial all stars but they are all one level below that and they all slash and shoot from all spots on the floor …subtracting one of the three , in this case brogdon , for a player who only shoots open lay ups and short shots adds extra touches for the other two.  Ben’s defense and passing could make for an interesting starting five and yes he can’t shoot the three and our other four wouldn’t be three point specialists but they are all four capable enough they have to be defended on the arc so it’s not like defenses can sag and pack against it.  I think it would be interesting to see Simmons and sabonis play together when they both pass as welL As they do

I thought Spurs title teams had incredible ball movement.   The Mavs title team did too.

Spurs I’m with you but I thought the nash Mavericks shared the ball better than the championship Mavericks ….as long as Tony Parker wasn’t being pouty that Spurs group was super unselfish genobli and Duncan were willing passers their whole career and were fun to watch because of it

  14. I didn’t watch a ton of suns games this year until the last two series in the playoffs ….I don’t have a team coming to mind that top of lineup for bottom shares the ball better since the first couple years the curry warriors became a force.  They all attack but are all willing to make a second and third pass to get the best shot…there was a series in the fourth where a dribble drive by Payne led to a pass to a cutter who immediately dumped to saric inside which would have resulted into a contested, albeit quality ,  post shot 99 times of 100 but without missing a beat saric threw across the lane to a baseline cutter all three passes happened in a split second …..the cutter fumbled the ball but it was high level iq and high level effort moving without the ball.  The suns are FUN

I love the 80s Lakers vs Celtics, but when you look at the moves that someone like Kevin Heurter does that basically no one on the either of those teams could do (they weren't prevalent/"invented" back then), you can see that the players today are more advanced. However, those teams were very good at what they did and didn't "need" those moves. Part of the reason why IMO it is impossible to compare teams/players from different eras objectively.

Also with completely different officiating practices and rule standards

I’m not sure that’s true. The Bulls played incredibly weak competition most years in the Finals.

I don’t want to get into a debate about how the Bulls were, because they were great, but I also think it's an over looked fact of history that they didn't exactly beat up on great teams in the Finals.

First three peat I agree ….aging lakers, a Drexler carried blazers team , and then a Barkley carried suns team ( with Kevin Johnson and 3 point majerle)……….the second three peat Sonics jazz jazz were loaded teams with at least two stars and two or three solid rotational player.  They earned the second three and full disclosure I dislike Michael fairly strongly .

think you’re right about it being close I liked the first prediction that bulls and rockets would have split 94 and 95 titles
