Keep your eyes on this kid.
Indiana is gonna recruit him hard. Do you think he has genuine interest in IU?

You guys would have cracked up at me yesterday if you saw what I did to talk to Karaban (in Westfield), Washington and Casey (in Louisville), and also make both of my kids' basketball games. I pulled it all off but didn't get around to eating all day until about 9 p.m.
Well now you have to tell us...

Yeah I don’t pretend to figure it all out. Geronimo and Hunter feel more like stretch 4s. Kopp is a wing in my eyes. Maybe if a team goes small he can slide over but I don’t see him playing a ton at the 4. We are all assuming this guy starts or this one...but no one really knows.
Hunter to me I’d actually really good with his back to the basket. To me he can only play the 4 though if he learns to stop fouling

What will we talk about you ask
The schedule - how many cupcakes are too many
Lineups - we will all be wrong
The annual “who is the X factor thread “
The annual “we are really deep this year thread “ - I might actually buy in to that a bit this year
How much we hate Purdue
How much we hate UK
How overrated team x is and how website/journalist y has us underrated
How big a tool Goodman is
Dakich
Any number of rabbit trails about movies, stray animals, old girl friends, etc
We are HSN, we will manage
And welcome aboard Koop
I think Goodman and Dack itch get around a campfire singing some campfire songs and talking about their obsession with IU basketball and how much they hate us.

There are only 3 point guards and Lander is 1. I can't see Rob going either.
I can see rob playing more of the 2 position. Lander fits CMW offense better than Rob does and with some confidence Rob can be good on entry passes and has a pretty decent shot.

Hearing there may still be some roster management to be done. I am still hopeful we can find a place for Kyle Mangas. I think he can help the team big time next year.
I mean there is if he wants to be a preferred walk on

I feel Miller Kopp will fill out our roster...
What’s your opinion on him? Is he the stretch 4 we need?

Alright, just finished watching the highlight tapes... Are we really comparing Phinisee to this kid? Phinisee is not on Bates’ level, “tough on defense” upperclassman or not. He just doesn’t have that kind of frame, athleticism, or shooting ability.
We’ve seen what Phinisee is... He’s just not Big Ten starter material. But the nice thing is that there should be no preconceived notions or misplaced allegiance to the upperclassmen with the new staff. Whoever wins the starting spot in practice will get it. My money’s on X and Bates.
And what’s scary is we are already getting to the point in three weeks that if a kid is worried about playing time and transfers we don’t have to freak out. We have so much more depth and the recruiting no longer scares me. With the staff put together I see lots of recruiting wins. The only thing we have to worry about in the future is if Hunter wants to be a head coach. We haven’t had that in forever as our only worry.

Didn't COVID give "everyone" an additional year of eligibility?
Yes but he doesn’t count towards the scholarships so it’s up to the university to decide if they want to pay for the schooling or not. They can say yes you play your additional year but we aren’t paying for the schooling or room and board. I would assume most schools will pay if they want player back bad enough.

That makes sense.
If Brunk is clever (and wants to be a lawyer), he will go a place with a good law degree and basketball team for which he is WAY to good so he does not have to work as hard on his training (UPENN or Yale or something - if they offer athletic scholarships).
He’s technically not eligible for a scholarship so whatever school gets him would figure out a way to let him come for free.. my guess is academic scholarship if he’s smart enough to be a lawyer.

It probably is the law school's rule (I do not know anything about the rule itself).
But assuming someone at IU imposes this rule and Brunk wants to have his law degree (partially) paid for with his athletic scholarship, he would have to go somewhere else.
Law school is not cheap...
Yep exactly

I think the point was that Brunk wants to start his law degree and have the first year paid for with a Basketball scholarship and IU said that they did not want him in law school and on the team.
I am not saying that this is the case, just that I believe it is what was being discussed.
I didn’t think it was an IU rule I thought it was the law school who has that rule. Also he didn’t count towards the scholarships this year so technically IU had the choice to say we are going to pay for school or we aren’t. Maybe with Covid IU said it wasn’t in the budget to approve him to come another year and he’d have to pay on his own.

I completely agree. Hypothetically I could see getting a guy like Mangas who is for sure only playing one season. Then developing Leal to fill that role moving forward if the staff isn't sure Leal will be ready for next season to 100% fill that need. I think Leal will be really good in that role at some point I just am not sure how quickly that will be.
So I’m not sure how his family is on money but hear me out. He wants to play at IU but IU doesn’t have a spot for him because they needed to fill the past two spots with more of known power 5 players. We could offer him a preferred walk on spot and if he proves himself then we offer him a scholarship next year. If he wants a masters degree it would take two years anyways and he only has one year of eligibility left so he would have to pay for his final year of his masters degree next year anyways.
