  1. That was the concert I saw them at! 38 Special and REO Speedwagon. Man, those were the days.
  2. I am super traumatized by those videos of turtles with plastic straws embedded in them, but absolutely hate paper straws. They never last until the drink is done. I had an employee buy me some stainless steel straws for Secret Santa and those are pretty cool. AND just reccently I ordered a titanium water bottle mount for my bike and it came with two titanium straws. It is SHOCKING how light those things are. It is pretty rare for someone like me who lives on water, black coffee, beer, and whiskey to use a straw though.
  3. Wait, what year is it again??? 🤣 I saw 38 Special at I’m thinking Mesker Amphitheater in Evansville way back in the day. Same place I saw Motley Crue, Metallica, Poison (what was I thinking), Def Leppard, etc.
  4. Sling definitely seems like the way to go. I’m guessing all of the other live TV online places have all agreed to the new $64.99 a month model. I appreciate your breakdown of the types of subscriptions. I was just looking at them and it seems like the Blue would capture most games.
  5. Oh yeah, I get that. I am so sick of the bickering in the media. I’ve just started tuning it out.
  6. I truly don’t know how you navigate it. And I think social media is making people dumber and definitely angrier!
  7. What the actual f*ck? That’s ridiculous! I’m going to need to find away around that. I literally only use it for IU games. Much appreciated! I was already wondering what my options are besides Youtube TV.
  8. I don’t have any say in what parents do for their kids. It’s not my business. But the kids I know are just not that fussed about it, and their parents agree that wearing a mask is their best protection if kids can’t get vaccinated. Maybe NYC kids, and probably NYC people in general, are just more adaptable than most and more able to deal with adversity. Another thing I always consider with kids and masks is what about kids like Ayden who have issues. Does some random healthy kid’s freedom to not wear a mask trump @Billingsley99 right to keep his kid protected in school? I don’t know the answer there, but protecting kids and teachers with compromised immune systems has to count for something somewhere. And when you say things like “We know masks aren’t effective…” it really makes it hard to take you seriously. I know you have your Breitbart doctors and the ones hoping to make a name for themselves as contrarians, but real doctors and researchers all agree that masks help and that yes they are effective. I’m guessing that there are no long term studies on mask wearing resulting in respiratory issues b/c it’s ridiculous. Nurses, doctors, dentists, hygienists, lab workers, etc. have all been wearing much thicker, more restrictive masks for long work shifts for decades with no long term issues.
  9. First pre-game thread of the Woodson era! Man, this off season has felt like it’s three years long.
  10. Looks like I need to reup my Youtube TV subscription! Last year they kicked me off of my BIL’s account, so going to have to pony up the $50 a month to watch our boys play. I’ve got really high hopes for this season. <- never said that before… 😜
  11. I do wish the mandates weren’t a thing, but here we are. And job loss has been very minimal here, mostly b/c of high vaccination rates already. I still have my one employee who is not vaccinated, but she is still fully employed. I’ve spent a lot of time helping her navigate this, even though I don’t agree with her rotating list of excuses. But, the exemptions are there and I’m helping her as long as they are. It’s funny, the kids I know don’t seem to fuss over the masks like some adults do. Also we have two schools on the block next to ours, and they are always outside on the playground running, shouting and playing with masks on. One of these schools is also the one that had the first teacher die of COVID in NYS. They have recently unveiled four colorful benches painted by the students in her memory. Very sad to see.
  12. I think the number of people (vaccinated or not) that get COVID and transmit it w/o knowing is probably significant. I guess I’m not really understanding anymore when people talk about “this bullshit” that has to end. Life has pretty much returned to a new normal. Around here, no one is scared to go out anymore. Street life, and restaurants and bars are bumping. Wearing a mask into a store isn’t a problem. Kids are in school. Life is going on. Halloween was bumping for both kids and adults. When I walk down the block, every restaurant and coffee shop is humming with full tables and people enjoying themselves. If people want to fixate on the negatives of having to wear a mask indoors to shop or vaccine mandates, then knock yourself out. The rest of us are returning to our new normal. You know I like you man, and hate to see you saying things like “sick of this stupid world.” There’s always been a LOT that makes me angry, like a lot. But honestly the last two years have taught me to be thankful b/c we don’t know what the next year may bring. And the IU season starts in less than a week! Maybe we can kiss this thread goodbye then.
  13. They can’t seem to help themselves. For my favorite mod team though, I will not take the bait.
  14. You are right that no one here will shed a tear over losing some NYPD. But we are also used to navigating mountains of garbage that would terrify most people. We’ve been through sanitation strikes before and will weather them again. It’s funny that the “mighty NYPD” (all 35,000 strong) were whining about the mandate and thousands said they would refuse the shot. They buckled - only 34 of them ended up being placed on leave. Not much power there apparently. I’m sure they realized they wouldn’t get that pay and fat pension elsewhere for sitting in their cars staring at their phones all day.
  15. Oh man, Mile would have loved this new beginning of the Woodson era.
  16. Again, since you are slow - I vote with my wallet on animal testing. I do not purchase goods or services from Dr. Fauci or the NIH. And I cannot control whether or not he is fired either.
  17. I get that people are upset about so many things related to this, but scientists are truly not the enemy. This distrust of science is not going to end well for us. Distrusting of politicians, I get that. I’m on board for sure. They are often only out for themselves. But distrust of science is one of the things I’m most concerned about. Sure you get your compromised scientists with their crackpot theories, but that is just not the norm.
  18. You asked me a loaded question, I answered it honestly. I didn’t even know who Fauci was before COVID, I don’t “support” him, but I’m also not bringing out the pitchforks. I vote with my wallet on animal testing. And my opinion on animal testing has never changed. Hence my comment, see below. I’m guessing reading comprehension is not your strong point.
  19. My opinion on Fauci is that he has somehow survived through multiple administrations (Republican and Democrat) and has overseen some incredible, life-changing health research at NIH. Do I agree with every study or award? No, not even close. And no, I don’t think he should be fired. If we let an idiot like Trump screw up everything he touched for four years, then I think we can cut the guy some slack. He’s been wrong some, like most scientists. I’m not coming with the pitchforks or reading every slanted news story about Fauci. If people need a villain, so be it. But he ain’t it when it comes to COVID. Well, my boss is one of the three people deciding where the money goes and she’s definitely one of the good ones. I’ve worked for some crappy people before, but she does not play the “grease the palms of friends” BS games. I can’t think of anyone I trust more than her to oversee this. As far as animal stuff goes, I worked for several years at Perdue Farms. I was involved from the hatchery to the slaughterhouse and sent more turkeys to their deaths than most. It’s what made me become a vegetarian. No problems with real hunters who give a crap about the land and the animals, and fully support small farmers and producers. Just sickened by the monster that factory farming has become in the last 2-3 decades.
  20. I’ve alwyas thought that about the music from that time period. Feel blessed to have got to grow up with it. Glad your tinnitus isn’t too bad. Mine can make me pretty cranky at times - even crankier than usual. Just a notch!
  21. I find it odd that people are up in arms about the testing on animals, yet no mention of the HUGE cottage industry of unnecessary animal testing by cosmetics and household goods companies that have been going on for decades. But, sure since we can bash Fauci with it, let’s suddenly get outraged. For over 25 years I have boycotted companies that test on animals. It was hard at first, but getting much easier. As far as COVID goes, it’s nice to see the cases decreasing. And this will make @Reacher happy, the NIH now wants to add a huge number of clinical trials to our long-COVID grant. Everything seems to be on the table, including studying stuff like Vitamin D exposure. Initially this was just supposed to uncover the extent and types of symptoms related to long-COVID, but it keeps expanding. This is now the largest grant that NIH has ever awarded to a single institution - and that’s before they add the clinical trial piece.
  22. But is was DAMN important to have a rocking car stereo back in the day. My stereo was usually worth more than my car! I don’t think I have any hearing loss that I can tell at 53, but tinnitus is a real bitch sometimes.
  23. Love it when it’s not just the recruit, but the parents, who are blown away by a visit. Welcome aboard to the entire family!
