  1. That’s smart - it’s good to expect a rough night and then be pleasantly surprised when she’s totally fine.
  2. That’s a tough one. I just pushed lots of water and ibuprofen every four hours, and it went away. I will say, that the docs in my group are all pushing their parents and grandparents to receive it regardless of frailty. That said, I’ll be worrying about my dad and grandmother when they receive second dose, but also realize that getting COVID would be much worse for them in Gibson County. It’s not like we have a stellar hospital system there.
  3. Pfizer. First dose, no issues at all. Also my wife had no issues with either dose. Most of my faculty and staff have also received with no issues. One doc had a reaction like mine to second dose. Most likely, she will have no issues. My grandma is 90 and just her first dose in Gibson Co. My Dad is worried about the second dose after my side effects. I think someone is going to stay with her the night she receives the dose. I hope I didn’t scare you or anyone else - it was just like a rough flu, but passed quickly.
  4. Ah, I didn’t follow King that closely, thought he had recovered. Sure, it could totally be “spinning the narrative” or just normal inconsistency among writers/editors. I don’t expect much from CNN. I saw a headline today mentioning a worry of Hank Aaron’s death causing people not to get the vaccine. That would be bad. I got my second dose on Thursday and woke up shaking in bed at 2am. Could not warm up no matter what. My wife piled like 8 blankets on me to get me to stop shaking. Had some pretty bad body aches too. Was no joke for about 6-10 hours. My wife had no issues at all with the second dose. I would obviously still get a second dose even knowing that I would get some flu-like side effects, but I can see someone really frail or much older really struggling with those kind of side effects.
  5. Didn’t Larry King have it back in December? I thought he had heart problems, so maybe the death wasn’t related to COVID?
  6. Ain’t that the truth. It’s probably the main reason I’ve focused on building centers aimed at population health, patient safety, and preventative care. If we can focus on preventative care over treatment, we would be so much healthier. And richer.
  7. WTH? No way. What is the session comprised of? I hate to be one of those people, but you can probably YouTube most of the exercises and buy the annoying little wobbly thing that all PTs seem to use.
  8. There is very little good news anymore and we are probably all just beaten down by the continuing spiral of new cases and deaths. Looks like we just passed 400K deaths today. Our weekly deaths from COVID lately are beginning to rival annual flu deaths. I have a postdoc from the UK that I’ve been trying to get into the States for the last six months. Talked to her on Zoom today and she was describing the UK lockdown. Sounds almost as bad as NYC this past March. My Dad is in Gibson County and getting vaccinated soon, which is a relief. Gibson County has been in the red recently and even my more skeptical relatives are kind of getting weirded out.
  9. I just realized that IU was in the 68 Rose Bowl! I’m slow in case you hadn’t noticed.
  10. I think my first NFL season was like 1974 - was six at the time. I didn’t know what college football was back then! I liked how they covered tracking the first 2,000 season. Ha, I bet! I was surprised how much they covered in the first episode. So am realizing those last few episodes are going to be all court drama. Will let you know when I finish!
  11. Yeah, that’s the one. We are obviously late to the party - my brother-in-law just gave us his ESPN+ password. But yes, really well done so far. Looking forward to E2 tonight!
  12. Anyone watched the OJ documentary on ESPN+ yet? We watched the first episode last night and it was pretty good. I grew up idolizing him in the NFL and his NFL/ Hertz days were kind of before my wife’s time. She only knew him as white van OJ.
  13. I wish I had the room. I am as addicted to gardening and seed catalogs as an 80 year old woman, I’m afraid. I can sift through them for hours. It’s like porn for me!
  14. We had another Town Hall today with a member of the new COVID task force. Was mostly on vaccines, but she also said that they are really focused on keeping schools both open AND safe for teachers. This seems to be a real push to keep kids in schools. Another thing that I was happy to hear her talk about was focusing on mental health, unemployment, drug abuse, suicide during the pandemic. She really seemed to be focused on what happens to families when a parent is no longer employed. She spoke at great length about the psychological impact of losing a job or income. Was happy to hear this as I don’t think it’s really been a focus for many leaders. She also said she wasn’t really a sports fan, so didn’t consider sports essential like restaurants and bars, which are often locally owned. She did say that she realizes that sports have helped people deal with anxiety and stress of the pandemic. This wasn’t as detail oriented as previous talks, but I did like the focus on dealing with ancillary issues caused by the pandemic.
  15. There are pros and cons of both ways, but I think getting more shots in arms quickly is a good way to move forward. I just found out my 90yo grandmother in Southern IN is getting her first shot on the 13th - super psyched about that!
  16. I get it, and you and I will never see eye to eye on this. Best to move on to worrying about Wisconsin tonight.
  17. Exactly, that’s the scary part. We are actually starting to seeing a lot of medical staff refusing the vaccine in NYS.
  18. Yes, it’s been under attack much longer than yesterday, but yesterday was an ACTUAL PHYSICAL attack on our democracy. I’m totally fine with no politics, but it’s really hard to not think about or talk about yesterday in a thread called “On This Day in History.” The events of yesterday are history - a significant historical event that will be studied for decades.
  19. Is it really politics to consider yesterday a horrible, shameful day in our country’s history though? I would imagine everyone would agree that yesterday was a dark stain.
  20. A Florida doctor has died several weeks after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, although it's not yet clear whether his death Monday was related to the shot he received on Dec. 18. Talk about bad headlines...
  21. Have had to say this a LOT lately, but yesterday was one of the most shameful days in our country’s history. It will definitely be remembered in the history books.
  22. I wonder if he does, his tail is kind of short though and they always seem to have longish tails. I was obsessed with Abyssinian cats as a kid, but we always just had the regular cats. They always seemed so wise and regal. After Christopher (above) was adopted out, they asked us to foster his brother. Looked just like him. He was our latest to get adopted out.
