  1. The guy is pretty respected in NYC that’s for sure. I think I even saw Chuck D tweet his congratulations.
  2. Planted some things today and it felt great. Our perennials are really looking good - I always forget how quickly everything turns green and starts growing once the temps start creeping up. Planted some sage, basil, and catnip today. Our rosemary always does great from year to year, but basil and sage is almost like an annual around here. The winter seems pretty tough on them. Also planted a new calamintha nepeta plant, which is probably my favorite smallish perennial. It’s got an insane amount of small white flowers and when you crush the leaves, it has the most intense mint smell. Also mason bees go insane over it. For the last few years, I’ve had a plant right between my chair and our “drinks table.” If I’m out there during daylight hours in my chair, I can often feel the bees buzzing against my arm. Mason bees don’t really sting for the most part. https://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/calamintha-nepeta-2021-perennial-of-the-year
  3. That’s exactly how it’s felt here. We haven’t changed our behaviors since being vaccinated in early Feb. I don’t get quite as annoyed by maskless a**holes anymore though, which is good b/c there are suddenly more of them.
  4. I was listening to NPR this morning and they said the same thing, but honed in on hospitalization rates increasing in the Midwest and Northeast. It definitely feels like people are starting to let their guards down here as places are opening up to more capacity.
  5. Dude, the decent people on here aren’t looking for perfection and appreciate the insights along the way, knowing they won’t always be right. And the trolls? Who cares. They suck.
  6. Dude, not cool at all. I know people are upset, but not cool.
  7. I’m in a meeting from 2-3:30. And damn it you knuckleheads, I’m now all in on this excitement.
  8. I would be over the top thrilled if it’s Stevens, but am not buying in yet. It’s not that I don’t trust @IUwins0708 and the other insiders, it’s just protection mode, b/c I don’t want to be disappointed with some horrible hire like Alford. I did read this entire thread with a growing smile and a sense of hope though.
  9. Yikes! It will be a year tomorrow since I stopped commuting into the office. Though I have been going in for part of a day a few times in the last month. We are slowly riding the sub again on off hours. But yeah, what a crazy year. One of the things that has helped me was all of the different experiences and viewpoints we’ve all shared on this thread. Though I won’t be sad the day this thread gets retired!
  10. Exactly! I will say it feels pretty great to be vaccinated and we were vaccinated very early. My wife’s parents are both now fully vaccinated and it will be nice to be able to actaully hug them when we see them next. They are in their late sixties. But really the most important thing for us is a return to normalcy for all of our neighborhood businesses. We’ve lost a lot and just hope the ones remaining can hold on. Vaccinations open things up quicker than anything. And I think we all deserve a jam-packed stadium after this year!
  11. Automatic for the People is really well done, so is Siamese Dream. Great choices! I would have mentioned Rumours and Aja for sure. I have a beat up old copy of Aja that still sounds incredible. I have a super fancy 45rpm double album set of Rumours that’s amazing, but I’m not too keen on the songs being spread over four sides instead of two. When I got the new edition of Rumours I put our old one out on the sidewalk one day with a bunch of aother albums for people to take for free. My wife happened to leave right afterwards before anyone had taken it and she texted me “You can’t get rid of Rumours!” Neil Young’s albums are usually very well recorded and mastered. My own additions that hasn’t been mentioned would be: Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Sessions Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot And too many jazz albums to list. Nothing sounds like a good jazz quartet or trio that’s well recorded. Something about the all acoustic instruments just creates magic through your speakers.
  12. Also I think more time at home gives people the itch for home improvement projects.
  13. We are like you guys, pretty strict lockdown for the beginning and then gradual going out, but maintaining precautions. Feel lucky to have never had it during this all this time, especially here in NYC. But we didn’t hesitate to get the vaccine. Main reason is that you can do everything correctly but there’s always those people who just don’t get it. B/c of them we got the vaccine. Now when I see idiots on the sub not wearing a mask I just don’t sweat it. Before I would have had to get up and move away from them. The side effects are thankfully usually minor, though there will always be cases like @NotIThatLives relatives. I know of a co-worker who got bad face sewlling after the first dose. I had a pretty strong reaction to the second shot, but it didn’t last. And I would take that any day over the lingering issues that so many have had - not to mention death. I also think the more people are vaccinated, the quicker we get out of this thing.
  14. Was 66 here yesterday. We’ve been enjoying lunch breaks on the terrace lately, but it was too hot and sunny yesterday! I need to start getting all my pots ready for planting and go get some more potting soil. Love the excitement of planting things in the spring.
  15. Good reminder of just how many people are working on the front lines in this huge effort.
  16. I’ve always thought the same. I wish masks weren’t politicized like they are. But that’s where we are.
  17. They were interviewing business owners in Texas on NPR this morning and the one I heard said they still have a mask policy and it’s on their door, but he was worried that this will embolden people and lead to more conflicts with his staff. Was concerned that people will try to flout their rule of “no shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service.” It’s funny how people don’t freak out about being asked to wear shoes or a shirt to enter a business, but a mask is beyond the pale for them.
  18. That’s exactly what our faculty is saying as well. Warning people to not pass up the J&J for the others. All are effective enough to get the job done!
  19. So MUCH better! Congrats, Indiana is really doing a nice job with their roll out.
  20. Congrats! You shouldn’t have any side effects from the first shot, but possible for the second one.
  21. Pretty impressive that they are saying enough vaccines by end of May for all of US. The massive ramp up in effort has been helpful and really gratifying to see.
  22. Ha, I remember the Bose 901 speakers. My group of friends thought those were the holy grail of speakers. I don’t think you need an appreciation or a special ear. I do think most people just don’t care about or notice the difference, especially when you consider the price. My wife can tell the difference in sound for sure, but she would be happy with a modest cheap setup or her phone and earbuds. She would never spend the money on high end equipment. Just like I would never spend a lot of money on clothes and shoes I guess. I’m happy wearing my shoes until they fall apart. It’s kind of like cameras. Most people are probably happy with their phone cameras. After all, they take really nice photos now. But, there is just a huge difference in quality when you use a nice full frame camera - or even better a film-based medium or large format camera. Yet, most people when they see two photos from the two don’t really notice much of a difference. When you start pointing out things like resolution, smearing, and the transition from in focus to out of focus areas, then it’s obvious that there is a difference. But in almost all situations a phone camera is really all you need. I honestly wish those differences didn’t matter to me. It would be a HELL of a lot cheaper for me between cameras and audio equipment.
  23. Oh hell yes, it might be a Waylon night tonight, b/c now that’s in my head.
  24. Awesome! We didn’t really change our behavior after getting fully vaccinated. Still doing all of the smart things. It is pretty cool to watch cases, hospitalizations, and deaths going down finally. And these vaccinations will hopefully start piling up and really turbocharge the reduction in cases/deaths.
  25. Yep, whatever they offer, take it.
