  1. Thank you! Smart. We’ve been giving Chloe glucosamine for a few years and I’m sure it helps. So, we sprang for the MRI today after talking to a neurologist who didn’t think her symptoms were consistent with IVDD. Turns out she either had a stroke (most likely) or there might be a brain tumor (we hope not). It’s been a rough week for her and us, but she’s back at home. They think the stroke happened either Sunday night or early Monday morning. My wife was remembering today that Chloe was at the end of the bed around 4am Monday morning and then she kind of shuffled weirdly up into my wife’s arms with an odd look on her face. We are wondering if she was trying to tell us that something wasn’t right. No way to know if that’s when it happened, but we are just glad to have our old gal back home. Thanks for the concern everyone.
  2. It is really heartbreaking to see them like this. You wonder how confused and scared they are. Or if they take it in stride. Hoping for the latter. Her appetite has been strong, which is always a good sign. She also wagged her tail at me yesterday when I was trying to hold her so she could use the bathroom. That brought on the waterworks for sure. 😭
  3. We are having a bit of a rough time with our dear dachshund Chloe. They are prone to back issues (IVDD) that can leave them paralyzed and we thought that since she was 14 we had avoided IVDD. On Monday, she started having some trouble walking so we took her to emergency vet. They said to keep her confined for two weeks. That night she couldn’t even stand on her own and it’s now full blown IVDD. We are not doing back surgery on a 14 year old dog, that would be too invasive and risky. Also back surgery is not a sure thing. So, we have to keep her immobilized in a crate for 8 weeks and hope for the best - with steroids, pain meds, and Gabapentin. Many dogs recover fully with strict cratre rest, but many don’t regain the use of their back legs. We are hopeful and committed to the treatment, but it’s really rough seeing her like this.
  4. Dang, poor girl. I bet she will feel so much better when she recovers and realizes this is gone!
  5. Great tip, I normally do that when I plant starts. And I always try to pinch off the lower leaves so they won’t get water from the soil splashed onto them. Also gives them some room to breathe down there!
  6. I dig your organization! I really need to start keeping track of what I plant and when. Our terrace is a constantly evolving thing, but I try to keep the tomatoes and peppers in check.
  7. I’ve found that they won’t grow much until the weather heats up, but as long as it’s not a bad cold snap they should be fine. My Brandywine Pinks are about 2-3 feet tall already. Gets pretty hot where we have them.
  8. I feel like we usually get what you guys get about 4-7 days later. What did you plant? Inquiring minds want to know!
  9. Wow, nothing like that here yet. I’ve got everything outside already, so hoping we don’t have that later this week.
  10. Yeah, kind of similar. I feel like she sued them later for more money or something. Great vocals - probably one of my favorite parts of that album.
  11. This is one of my favorite Youtube videos to rewatch again and again. Kind of like the Merry Clayton voice track of Gimme Shelter that I watch about 2-3 times a year.
  12. Basil grows so fast that it’s hard to keep in front of it. We grow in planters and it does well, but doesn’t last through the winter like rosemary does for us.
  13. Agreed. I think we are going to be with this thing for some time. Poorer countries are not being vaccinated at a decent rate and that will backfire on the whole world. It’s astonishing that something that should be so simple to eradicate has become such a problem for so many countries.
  14. Yeah, I didn’t word that right. As I said above, they should have been offered the vaccine if they were being forced to work. Restaurant work is hard as it is and the pay sucks.
  15. Sorry, I actually should have said “offer the vaccine” to all of them. You can’t force people to take this vaccine. You can’t even do that in the military. I just meant that the restaurant staff and all front workers should have been first in line for the vaccine.
  16. Agree, 1000%. This has always really annoyed me. If restaurants are so important, then vaccinate the staff. All of them!
  17. I don’t think the new CDC guidance around masks outdoors is helping things. How will outdoor restaurants know who’s been vaccinated? They really can’t or won’t. So anti-maskers will just claim that they are fully-vaccinated and the servers will be exposed to them. We’ve come so far with vaccinations, but just not there yet.
  18. A little plot of earth to plant how you want is never ugly. It’s freaking awesome! Living somewhere without it, I’ve never appreciated it more. And I love to live vicariously through you guys.
  19. Let me know when you get to this level. I thought this was INSANE. Don’t even know where to start.
  20. My wife does this all the time with scallions. Super easy and effective.
  21. Good to hear! Usually it’s the night of where people get side effects. You are probably in the clear!
  22. The grind indeed. Lots of folks in small towns and/or rural areas are used to getting this kind of care from their local docs. Not traveling to mass vaccination sites. I heard a spokesperson on NPR this morning saying that getting the shots into local doctors offices was going to be critical and I agree.
  23. Me too, but make it the Barclays center b/c it’s only a few blocks from us!
  24. Okay 5 cats in 940 sq ft is not too much worse than 2 cats in 500 sq ft, but I think we are both on the precipice of cat crazy.
