But there is no guarantee the Bears would have taken Mahomes if they didn't trade up

But they could have. That’s my point. Not doing so, and instead trading away picks that could have been Mahomes (and 2 other Pro Bowlers), to get Trubisky, is worse than what the Panthers did, in my opinion, at this point. If either Stroud or Williams become as good or better than Mahomes, then I will change my opinion.

Again, I am not talking about who the teams that trade up didn't select, but rather who they did select and how much draft capital the teams moving up gave them.

I can go through each draft and find great players who weren't selected where they should have been in hindsight, from Mahomes, to Tom Brady to Puka Nacua.

Again, my original point was trading up for Trubisky instead of staying put and taking Mahomes was worse than what the Panthers did. But that’s my opinion, I understand that you may disagree.

If Caleb Williams or CJ Stroud end up being better than Mahomes, then I will change my opinion.

First off, I was pissed when the Bears did this trade, but 10 teams had the opportunity to draft Mahomes and didn't, so clearly most NFL people did not anticipate him turning into one of the best QBs to play the game. Despite the poor decision of Ryan Pace to pick Trubisky, the Bears did not give up nearly as much to move up the 1 spot as Carolina did to jump up and take Bryce Young.

Bears received/selected the following from the Carolina pick:

Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, and the 2025 second round pick, and Tory Taylor since they traded back a spot to get Wright from the spot they had from Panthers.

I’d rather have Mahomes than all of those guys. But that’s just me. And then you could have also had Kamara and Mark Andrews too.

When did the Bears trade with KC? I'm talking about who the Bears received in exchange for the #1 pick they traded with the Panthers not every player a team passed over in the draft. 10 teams could have drafted Mahomes in that draft.

Trading up and drafting Trubiski instead of staying put and drafting Mahomes is worse, in my opinion.

Any pure shooter. I've only watched him play once and it wasn't the best competition. I'd say you can pick any of the following examples. Bigger Jordy Hulls, honestly Goode, for the slightly older crowd Hornsby....Matt Roth, Nick Z....any of those guys.

Maybe others who have watched can help better than I.

    Cline, Loyer, Matthias… 😆

that's why Dallis is CB4, at best, anyways.

I don’t think Jones, Brents, Kenny, and Flowers is a group you can go into the season with.

Love who they did get tho. Replacing Kelly and Smith a year or so ahead of time, more speed at WR, and hopefully an edge who can get pressure when it matters.

    Kiper's observation of the Colts.

I don't really understand the complaints about corner, and don't get knocking the draft because they didn't pick a position that HE felt they needed to upgrade.

Jaylon Jones JUST turned 22 years old and started in 10 games last year, playing in all 17.

Julius Brents 2nd rd last year, Kenny Moore is a Top 2-3 slot corner, Dallis Flowers comes back from injury, and with 20+ million in cap, I would be pretty surprised if they didn't sign, at least, one vet corner.

Either way-- the corner room didn't need anymore youth.

They must have something up their sleeve for a vet corner. You can’t count on Flowers being 100% back from an Achilles in year 1, in my opinion.

Edey vs. Tshiebwe isn't a very good comparison IMO.   Edey falls into the once in lifetime type of players. His production and dominance of the paint area is something that hasn't been seen in sometime. His numbers speak for itself.    I agree every time any program gets a tweener (NBA vs. college) talent like TJD that stays longer than most it's a real boost.   Edey to me was an exception.   I wonder if he hit the NIL free market what he would had been offered for his covid year?

    $2 million?

Couple of former Big 10 players in the portal...Meechie Johnson (Ohio State) and Jamal Mashburn Jr (Minnesota)...

I liked Johnson a lot as a freshman...I couldn't believe he hit the portal the first time...

Sounds like Diebler may have reached back out to Johnson thru 3rd parties… is that tampering if he played for you until a year ago ?

UConn will have Final Four experience in their favor.  Whil UConn was celebrating the Championship last season, the Boilers were trying to figure out where FDU's campus is located and how close is it to St. Peter's.

UConn is the best team. And they probably have the best coach. But in a 40 minute game, who knows…

Just skimming, IU did have some years where they were +100...But 1992-93 was the only one I see that came close to 231 (226)...

And that's not going into the 34 games out of 35 where the opponents (allegedly) fouled more than Purdue did...

The other teams coach basically said, “yeah, we fouled him every time.”

Sorta like what Chrissie Collins said Northwestern was going to do to Edey the day before we played them.

Don’t worry: the foul discrepancy will be over in a week or two.

That same article shows exactly why you don’t build in free agency. Grigson made huge swings and effectively ended Lucks career. The Sneed deal was good to pass on. We aren’t a corner away….let the Titans make that mistake. They make huge splash in free agency and are still the worst team in the division. Also Ballard made a big swing by trading a first to SF, making moves for Wentz and Ryan…he has taken big swings. It’s a silly article…and pointless because Ballard isn’t going anywhere right now.

Maybe he’s not going anywhere because the Irsay girls realize that not too many competent GMs want to put up with their dad’s meddling and drama.
