Just speaking for myself  it would have been great if Fields thrived because my Lordy the Bears could have surrounded him with several premier talents with the trades from last year and, potentially, this year.

And I also think he’s very tough to deal with if you get him in the right system.   I don’t think Getsy and Eberfus deployed him right.  The right coach acquiring him will have a plan and he can do better.

I am also concerned about Williams’ data when under pressure (e.g., the asinine picks against ND).

But ultimately, I think Williams is a more legit passer and has some magic to his game with improvisational skills and arm talent.  Fields’ record, stats, and skill sets don’t provide the ammo to pass on a first pick in the draft QB.   If you hit on Williams, you get 10-15 years and that sets you up to acquire talent at more predictable positions which are easier to execute on.   That’s my thinking.  Bears can be a sleeping giant waking up.   They probably can’t go wrong.

Another way to look at it: The reason you can keep adding high draft picks around him year after year is the same reason that he isn’t the guy: he doesn’t win.

Yeah I'd prefer to build up the team around Fields as well and Getsy needs to Getsy the heck out of town.

And pick up his 5th year option at $25 million? Poles already passed on 1 superstar QB, can’t imagine he does it a 2nd time.

Agreed. I think looking at the pay of top WRs, Pittman isn't in the same "category" as them.

But he's the best WR on the team. He's solid and seems unselfish. I wouldn't hate Ballard overspending for him. I just don't think he's in the Diggs, Hill, etc category.

I think he’s more in the $20 million a year range.

Neither one is worth 25 million. Maybe they get it... im sure the Colts will overpay Pittman. But that's a little steep for both.

Pittman has Ballard over the barrel now. They have so few weapons without him, as we saw a couple weeks back.

Watching that play for like the 100th time.. I think Goodsons intital route needed to have more width as well. That would have created a simpler angle for catch and throw.

Maybe you don’t put your entire season in the hands of a guy who has been on active roster for less than a month.

Braden Smiths health is not Chris Ballard's fault, but I would either restructure Smiths contract or I would look into cutting him.

So we need OT, a CB1 and a WR1. Agree to disagree on having a stud edge.

And S, LB, and RB if Moss leaves.

No game breakers at TE either.

I wouldn't be upset if we got a new GM and D coordinator for next year.

Ballard isn’t terrible, he’s just the definition of mediocre:

.500 record, no division titles in 7 years, ONE playoff win in 7 years…

Had a chance to move up in the draft for a generational quarterback and instead he sat on his hands and our division rivals got him and we get to play against him 30+ times…

I would give him one more year to win a division, win a 2nd playoff game, and address the glaring holes at the most important positions on a football team.

The Baker guys tackle attempt on that drive was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. And I'm not sure where #48 was looking at the pass that he ended up horsecollaring.

This roster needs so much work. Corner, WR, Edge, OT.

Really a mess for a GM going into year 8.

6’8 sweet shooting lefty out of Cathedral High School. Asst Brian Walsh was in to see him last week. Holds a dozen+ mid-major offers but was recently offered by Wake Forest, school that produced Jake LaRavia who I think is a very fair comp.

Avg 20 points and shooting 50% from 3 for the 5-0 Irish. Plays on Spiece Indy Heat’s EBYL team and believe his recruitment will take off this summer. Comes from a big IU family.

Haven’t seen him yet but your description sounds like Scott Martin.

Well Brad Underwood committed coaching malpractice against us last season. The way he covered Trayce was absolutely putrid - huge plunder on his part.

Painter didn’t adjust the deep coverage Edey plays in either game against us last year which allowed JHS to cook them. It was a bit of a pick your poison with JHS and TJD, particularly with small inexperienced guards for Purdue, but he needed to try something different. Less drop coverage, hard hedges, trap and force the ball out of JHS’s hands.

Those are the first thing that shooting to mind schematically for me with those two coaches.

Going longer term Painter made some major roster construction mistakes/recruiting mistakes after the Baby Boilers. He seems to have learned that lesson and overall does a good job of finding guys that can run the stuff he wants, and then he tweaks from there.

Hayward was in the bag. And then Painter really turned off the family.

Anyways.. Mullins is a player IU should for sure be after. Can't fault him for liking Shrews though.

I’m sure Shrews is telling him he can come in and start… and from what I’ve seen of ND, he probably will. Brey didn’t exactly leave the cupboard full.
