Speaking BBQ... had some in Texas this past weekend. Shewwwww. It was the real deal.

Hutchins if you're ever in the Dallas area.

Now this is why I visit this board. Well that, and bickering about Ballard’s roster construction with you. 😃

Black’s in Austin and Joes in KC are 2 of the better BBQ joints I have been to.

In Indy, I really love Smokin Barrel and Trax.

Didn’t really have a lot of issues up through college…couple bad days here in there…but late 20s started noticing it…then progressed much worse later. Pretty much corresponding at the same time I started losing my abs and wasn’t exercising as much. Strong core and muscles kept things in place for me…once that weakened it got bad fast…then even if I wanted to exercise etc it hurt too much to do so. Keeping weight off helps a lot so I’ve managed that through diet and free weights and walking a bit but I can’t go back to rigerous exercise anymore unfortunately. Seeing a spinal specialist this week. Hoping injections might allow me to be a bit more active. I love sports and outdoor activities but it sucks not being able to do them for any length of time.

That sucks man. Hoping you get help from the specialist.

Feel bad for the kid. Awful timing.

Julius Gizzi is another 2025 to keep an eye on, even if it’s as a future transfer if he starts out at a smaller school. Scorer with great bloodlines - Mom and dad both played at LaSalle.

    Maybe. Maybe not.

But IMO, that story isn’t a negatively reflection on what he can and can not handle. If anything, it shows grit and perseverance. It shows that he built a final four team at a school with horrible facilities and resources.

Seems to be a man with character and integrity.

Don't have to be a grad to be a huge fan. A lot of the biggest fans I know or knew never stepped foot on a college campus. I didn't go to Bloomington but IU East so does that make me less than a fan than someone that went to Bloomington

No, not at all. Almost all of the Purdue fans I know are also Purdue grads, but there are exceptions, of course.

I guess I’m referring to the IU basketball fans/Notre Dame football fans that went to neither school, that are prevalent in the northern half of the state. Used to work with a guy who was obnoxious about those 2 teams… and he went to Ball State.

It’s all good…people are raw right now…last season ended horribly and this year we never stood a chance. Just tired and we all deserve better but we roll out predictable hires with predictable results. I’d say the ncaa thread is fine but once you get into the coaching complaints thread it’s going to be especially dicey especially since you guys have your answer at Coach and enjoying your glory days…most successful run. A lot of raw nerves around here and for good reason.

I get it. I only post on these boards because you guys really do have informed posters, for the most part. Feels like there are a lot of actual IU grads on here, like some of the guys I know in real life.

I don’t live and die with this stuff anymore, so I tend to look at these things more analytically than I did in my 20s and 30s.

The great thing is both programs are in one of the Have conferences, and not one of the Have Not conferences, so going and getting a proven coach should be easier than ever.

Galloway should be coming off the bench…he is an energy guy…lock down defender, instant spark plug…he plays too hard and honestly at his best in more limited minutes….love the kid but that is who he is and should be.

Reminds me of Terone Johnson after Hummel, Moore and Johnson were gone. Really good as the 3rd perimeter option, struggled as the 1st perimeter option.

Not his fault, just like it’s not Galloways fault.

To me, the ideal lineup would have been TG at the 3, Mack at the 4, KW at the 5, with Reneau backing up at the 4 and 5. That way his defense is less exposed going against other backups.

And then 2 portal guards at the 1 and 2, after letting X go. With Cupps, Leal and Gunn backing up 1-3.

To me it appears that recruiting is drying up and how it sounds right now those 25 recruits are looking elsewhere. He offered 35 players in the 24 class and got 1 player.  You just can't keep a coach because if a couple of recruits go elsewhere if you fire him.

If you keep Woody because of the 2025 recruits, you are committing to TWO more seasons, because if you fire him after the 2024-25 season those 2025 signees will all be released from their LOIs anyway.

To me the bigger question is do you want Dolson making the next hire.

Ballard is very much a measurables, numbers, testing guy. Every position has been a position of need for us…so hard to say that’s what he is going after. He goes for these Uber athletes that test and measure off the charts and honestly I think he does go for bpa. My issue is that leads to a lot of boom or bust…and unfortunately the booms have been at positions like LB, RB, G etc but those aren’t positions that you can’t get similar replacement production from back ups.

the positions that are game wreckers/changers like pass rushers, wr, qb, lock down corners or game changing DT he just hasn’t drafted well. I don’t think we are drafting an early wr this year. We have invested multiple 2nd rd picks and 3rd rd picks in our receivers. Sure we will draft another but I’d be shocked if it’s in the first 3 rds.

I think he goes bpa but my hopes is that it’s a proven, productive player, but one that can make a difference on the game. I would be thrilled if a top corner or interior defensive lineman etc was there for us.

The Colts need so much talent still, just take the BPA at a premium position, whether corner, Receiver, edge, even an offensive tackle.

Supposedly a deep receiver draft, so maybe you wait until Friday to get one.

ummm.... what FA in WR have worked out for teams in recent years? I'll wait

Corner-- I would prefer to add a vet in FA. But if we draft one-- no issue.

You misunderstood me. I am fine with drafting a corner in round 1.

What hasn’t worked is Ballard going into a draft with glaring needs and being hell bent on getting someone at a certain position because we HAVE to get someone.

I truly think Ballard would be really good at just drafting BPA, if he went into the draft with all the pressing needs filled.

You seriously think that? Kid comes from an Indiana family. I guarantee others could be appealing as well. If it was all about Shrewsberry he would have committed to Notre Dame by now.

He’s built relationships with Shrews, Woody, Paint, and Izzo. IU gets rid of Woody and his staff and bring in a guy that he doesn’t know, he’s not going to IU, especially if he’s committing this summer. Not enough time between April and July to catch up with the relationships the other 3 staffs have.

I don't see switching coaches as being a major issue in today's NIL and portal environment.

Plus, if we get a coach that is already coaching in college elsewhere, then he would already be developing relationships with recruits.   And we would only have 1 recruit to convince to stay.

Anyone that thinks Woodson has a low ceiling (which is growing) will prefer just to cut our losses and try to find the right coach.

If you fire Woody, there’s probably only one coach you could hire that could get him to IU…

You can fall in love quickly ❤️

The question is can CMW do anything to convince him to commit?  Getting 4-5 portal guys and showing a diverse offense?

Supposedly what he likes about Purdue is the exact opposite of playing with a rotating cast of random portal guys.

But he also supposedly preferred IU, all else being equal.

so who knows…he’ll probably sign with the little scumbag up north…

To me I hope we go CB in free agency because we have enough young CB so we need experience. I see a lot of mock drafts having the Colts picking a CB

I’m not against drafting a CB in round 1, IF that is BPA.

when you have to draft for need, that’s how you end up reaching for guys like Ya Sin, Banogu, Turay, Quincy Wilson, etc.

If Bowers is available and the Colts pass on him I would be pissed.

Here’s the thing : Ballard NEVER addresses ALL of the pressing needs in free agency, so he ends up drafting for need in the first few rounds, instead of taking BPA.

If he can address corner and WR in FA,  then he can take BPA, aka Bowers.

Non-starter for me, along with his extensive injury history.

Penix screams backup to me, in this era. Gotta be able to extend plays and make throws off script.

Which is why AR 15 could be great, if they quit design-running him and getting him hurt. And HE needs to do a better job of running to AVOID hits, not running to TAKE hits.

this mock has colts getting the top corner in the draft, and the bears getting Caleb and Odunze:

    Like it for both teams.

Just because you are an all time player doesn't mean you automatically is good at coaching or making major decisions. Buckner was like 13-69 as a HC in the NBA. Also what NBA coach has came in to college with no college experience and succeeded. Ewing nope, Mullins nope, IT nope, Drexler nope, Howard is a mess and Woodson not looking good.

    ….Penny…Stackhouse…. Eddie Jordan….

you can't make this shit up. I think Woodson is trolling us now!!

You guys get your Woodson bingo cards made yet ?

This reminds me of the Darrell Hazell-isms we endured for 4 LOOOONG years…

”We’ll need to go back and take a hard look at the tape”.

“These were correctable errors and we’ll get them fixed.”

“We did a lot of good things today.”
