JHS didn't need the floating three. He could have reposted TJD. The Race three was inexcusable. Wasted possessions cannot be accepted.

Trying to see the big picture. If IU can land someone like JHS but only get him for one season then what happens? The easy answer is you replace him with another great player or you slide back down the rungs. But is that necessary? Current elite teams add players like JHS and the next season they replace them with other great players because one season is all you are likely to get. I'm not sure IU is at the place where they annually replace great players with great players. It is more likely they land solid players and let them grow into big time players over time. If you happen to add a JHS type player the hope is you have enough solid guys that have developed to put around him and make a run. The fact IU has no bigs lined up in 2023 is cause for concern. Portal? Maybe. Steal a recruit after a coaching change? Maybe. If not and you lose TJD, Race, X and JHS along with any possible transfers means you have to expect a step back. That's not a slight against the returning players but reality is you're not going to be at the same level as the group that is leaving without adding some truly top notch players.

Great question. Calbert made a career out of getting jumpers at the free throw line. The guy who should be taking advantage of that is Tamar Bates. His pass to a cutting Banks for the dunk during the purdue game was perfect and he did that after a quick dribble and rising from the FT line. Since Tamar is not strong with the dribble and rarely gets past his man off the dribble for a clean shot, he should work more to catch, take one dribble to the FT line, rise and shoot or pass to the open spot/cutter. Add that to his spot up jumpers from three and now he can contribute inside and out. Especially over smaller guards. In the meantime, his next improvement has to be going to the glass. Stop standing there watching shots at his size.

This one is not difficult. Rutgers has punked IU multiple times for mutliple seasons now. More physical in every way. They take cheap shots. They talk trash. And while IU loses it's cool and stops playing basketball Rutgers turns IU over and controls the boards for the win. IU didn't handle Maryland's senior guards very well. Rutgers has the senior guards with size and they can score. They rebound as a team at a high level. IU has to come to play winning basketball, not get caught up in the other crap, and cherish the basketball. They can't be fouling like they have recently and give away easy points. It's going to take a big effort, especially from the guards, and a great home crowd.

I'm assuming the 2023 class is about closed at this point and it seems odd to go so long without someone announcing their verbal intent to sign. Two guards signed. Is it portal or bust now for anyone else in 2023? Is there a recruiting insider on here? Should IU fans expect an announcement for any class in the near future?

Big win. Great effort. Still some head scratching decisions. If they can mature and cut down on the fouls they can win a lot more games this season. Protect home and get a few on the road. No telling how this ends up.
