  1. Should be an incredibly competitive division this season. .
  2. Bellinger a North-Sider for the next 3 years. This is always what made the most sense. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39596106/cody-bellinger-cubs-agree-3-year-80-million-deal
  3. WooHoo! I'm on record with nothing more than a couple of Brad Underwood jokes,
  4. Are the guys from Assembly Call better, more educated, and more dedicated fans than the rest of us?
  5. Did not watch a single second of the game. Decided to devote my wife-approved free time today to watching some pre-season baseball. No sense making time for something that makes me unhappy. Life's too short.
  6. I don't get how the Reds are projected to be worse than last year. The young'ens are a year older and the roster has been improved. Not saying they will win 90, but projecting them for 78 or 79 wins? I can't see that.
  7. Heard this song for the first time in probably 25 years while out and about this morning. Couldn't help be sing along.
  8. My curiosity got the best of me. Here's what George Wright would have scored for me.
  9. I just looked it up, George Wright would have counted at SS, but it would not have fit my Reds criteria since the grid starts with the 1871 season. Wright played for the Red Stockings in 1869 & 1870.
  10. I saw the grid and thought to myself "I'm going to get a Reds player in every square". Then I proceeded to butcher the All Star & .300 Batting average square. I focused too much on the .300 piece, and totally forgot about the 'All Star' component. The names Sean Casey and Hal Morris immediately popped into my head as .300 hitters, and I went with Morris, who is less known. Of course, at that point, I ignored the 'All-Star' qualification and, even after I got the dreaded blank square, it took me a minute to figure out why I did not get credit. All that said, I ultimately don't know if I would have ever figured out a Reds SS that hit .300, certainly not one that would be wearing a Cincy cap. George Wright from the 1869 Red Stockings probably did, but I doubt he would count.
  11. As a fallback option, they can always listen to the award winning radio team.
  12. Holy mother of all things lost, we have a @Zlinedavid sighting.
  13. Hours upon hours upon hours playing it, and loved every minute of it.
  14. I'm here to report that I have NOT been contacted by IU about becoming their next head basketball coach. In the event that they do, I will post the news exclusively on HSN first.
  15. Nashville would likely take some fans from Cincy, so I'm not wild about that idea.
  16. I've already completed one Fantasy Baseball Draft and have Imanaga on my pitching staff (as my 6th starter). What spot in the rotation do you see him filling for the Cubs? Steele, obviously is #1, but how do you see Imanaga, Hendricks, and Taillon getting positioned?
  17. Anyone that still thought we had a shot with this one is living in an alternative universe.
  18. The wife and I spent a day on Grand Cayman as a port stop on our honeymoon cruise (2003). Didn't see or do a lot due to the time and transportation restrictions. Our main activity was taking a boat out to a sandbar a couple of miles offshore and swimming with the sting-rays. Very cool thing to do if you're into that sort of activity. In addition, we did some shopping in town, but I don't remember a whole lot about that other than the town was clean and had a lot of shopping options in the area where we were at.
  19. They rotate it. I much prefer Charlestown. Probably my favorite 'new' gym. Madison is great as well, but not centrally located.
  20. Regarding your Buhner error, I was working my way through the 30# homer column, got Vaughn and Ludwick, and then proceeded to think of players that hit 30+ for the PADRES. So, my brain is thinking Nate Colbert, Winfield, Camanitti, Soto, Machado, etc., and I'm all set to go with Colbert and the light finally goes off that the box is for Mariners 30+, not Padres.
  21. @IU Scott. Adding to what @IUFLA is saying, you'll notice that virtually every time I use a pre 1960's player, it's a Hall of Famer. If not, it's a player a remember from a specific story I read about as a kid (1919 White Sox for instance). I'm not going to be pulling backup infielders from the 1912 Braves out of my butt. Another tool I use is I think about former Reds players even in non-Reds categories. On today's grid, Ryan Ludwick came to mind using that tool. David Bell came to mind because he's the Reds manager. And, Bret Boone because of the Boone family ties to the Reds. Sixto Lezcano came to mind because, while playing for the Padres, the Padres, I saw him hit a home run to dead center in Riverfront while I was there for a game.
  22. If you ever watched Field of Dreams, and you recall the scene near the end where James Earle Jones' character is watching the game with a book in his hand, that book is The Baseball Encyclopedia. I had that book. I spent many summer days as a youth studying that book.
