lets say.... you were Dusty May, I bet you love IU just as much/close to what Dusty does.... not sure where you grew up, but Dusty also grew up in essentially Indiana's verison of the "outskirts" of a city (Bloomington)... right? I mean the guy went to Eastern Greene HS.. EGHS to Assembly Hall is a 25 min drive..

Again, lets say this is YOU..... would YOU take the IU job, even after a successful stint at OSU?......

    I think you would.

OSU/FAU would be jobs for Dusty--- Indiana would be the dream.

Hope you're right.  On the other hand, if I had just built a low-major program pretty much from nothing, won 35 games and gone to a Final Four, and my dream place to coach decided someone else was better, I might have a new dream: take a job in their conference and beat the hell out of them.

    The jealousy is very real.

Lol.  No matter how “nice” Purdue fans and posters are, it always eventually comes back to this, doesn’t it?

Just for the record—and I can’t speak for the younger generations—those of us my age (pushing 60) and older are not jealous.  I’ve seen IU win 3 championships and go to 5 Final Fours (I don’t remember the ‘73 Final Four).  For those too young to have witnessed those, maybe there is some jealousy.  Only they know.

But the thing for us older folks, we understand that even elite programs have down periods.  Kansas stunk when I was a kid until Larry Brown brought them back.  Alabama football was down for quite a while.  UCLA basketball.  It happens.

No doubt, Purdue is really good this year.  Better than last year.  They could win it all.  But they entered this season with only two consecutive 20-win seasons, just like us.  But one would never guess that from all the talk.  When you have 50 years of college basketball in your memory bank, the past couple years seem like 5 minutes.  It doesn’t really move the needle, as folks here like to say.

To me, the comparison to Alabama football is instructive.  Alabama went through many coaches over a couple decades.  Auburn, their rival, got to talk some smack for a while.  They even won a title.  I think we all know when Indiana decides to pull its head out of its hind-end like Alabama eventually did, things will be back to close to the way they were.  And I bet when that happens, Purdue is going to realize what an opportunity they missed.  Because at least Auburn won a championship.

Can someone that knows the NET rankings in and out help me on this. Is there a cutoff for losing at home by 5 vs 7 points?

I saw this on Twitter and hoping it's wrong but Collins was yelling to his players not to foul when down 5 vs Iowa. Please tell me this is just Ant having fun and not a real cutoff that influences rankings?

No, a 2-point difference in one game is going to change a team's rating by about 0.000001.  In other words, no effect at all.

So as we can reflect I’d say most of us would agree that in hindsight BOTH Crean AND Miller had a higher upside and more potential to have success here and we followed them both up with a LESS qualified candidate with LESS of a potential to succeed.

If Quinn is responsible the guy should be banned for a year from all things IU. Put his butt in a timeout

I certainly hope Quinn will step aside now and let Dolson do his job.

Crean’s infatuation with wings, lack of consistent roster building, burn his players out conditioning and questionable play calling in tight games were all widely known and a frustration at Marquette. Nothing changed at all at IU

he'd have a good team for a year or two then massive rebuilds for years between at Marquette. He had shown no ability to build a program that could be good all the time and great every 2-3 years. It was feast or famine with him.

Yeah, I thought (hoped) Crean would be able to recruit well enough here to avoid those valleys, but he just wasn’t able to.  Archie, I had watched him coach enough at Dayton to know he wasn’t anything special.  That being said, I thought he’d have more success here than he did.  Woodson, I just didn’t understand the hire, especially when the program needed so much more.  They sold me for a while with Fife, Matta, and the promise of a modern NBA-style system, but, of course, that never materialized.

Sisley will end up being a Purdue commit sooner rather than later and it's all because Painter knows how to make a player a priority and Mike Woodson doesn't. There's a reason Painter has a program in Purdue that is rolling like IU should be.

Hopefully Sisley will at least hold off on a commitment long enough to see what the coaching situation at IU is a month from now.

  7. Is the reaction to Woodson not showing up to any sectional games a little over the top?  I don’t know, maybe.  But when I hear of players’ parents and families liking tweets criticizing Woodson for it, it’s obvious that Woodson’s no-show didn’t help anything.  As to the theme that it’s “only one day of sectionals” or “only the first round of the tournament” ….. it’s a tournament.  The thing about a tournament is only half the teams advance.  If I’m a college coach and wanna make sure I see my guy(s), the first round is when I need to be there.  Woodson’s already lost his chance to see Sisley.

In addition to the defense, I wonder if May is prepared to coach in the IU pressure cooker. It takes a special personality.

Dusty May opened the door, looked at Anna and broke down into tears.

It's March 2018. May had signed FAU's contract that made him a first-time head coach just a few hours earlier.

And here he was, bawling in a hotel room, trying to figure out a way to back out of the deal.

“I walk in the room and I started crying and said, 'I just committed career suicide. I'm not good enough. I can't do this,'" May told CBS Sports.

May admits to having an impulsive personality. He wanted the job, then he didn't want the job. He signed the contract before ever seeing FAU's basketball facilities. Once he did, panic set in.

The meeting with athletic director Brian White, who at that point wasn't even a week into his new job at FAU, was so good that May agreed to be the Owls' coach just hours after arriving in Boca Raton, Florida.

When I feel something in my stomach I go with it," May said.

May had no agent, so almost purely on vibes and the temperature in the air, he put pen to paper.

"At that point, I still haven't been to our gym, our weight room, our locker room," May said.

When he saw the gym, the weight room, the locker room, May was cloaked in remorse. He tried not to show it on his face.

May was freaking out internally. He wanted to go back to Florida and stay on as Mike White's top assistant.

"I knew we just had a lot of work even to fill a competitive roster," May said. "I would've left and went back to Gainesville after signing the contract if it wasn't for my relationship with Mike and his family."

Probably takes a lot of confidence in himself to admit all that for a story in the national media.

Who's list if you dont know how the admin views him? if you are talking the list that matters then you would know how the admin views him beacuse you said he is on the list. If its jimbobs list down the street then yes you wouldnt know how the admin views him.

I don’t know, but l’m guessing thinking highly enough of a candidate to put him on a list isn’t exactly the same as, after you’ve gone through the list, thinking highly enough of him to hire him.

Well using the Big East, as an example, nine of its eleven teams are in the NET top 64. Meaning, other than a maximum four games against DePaul and Georgetown, BE teams play a NCAAT eligible team every game. Also, they have three teams in the NET top 12. The B1G has one.

So, you're saying conferences should be ranked by the number of teams in the top 64?  Or perhaps top 50 since that's where most of the at-large teams come from?  (the remaining teams are small conference champions that can be ranked as low as 250 sometimes).  The reason I'm asking is I produce metrics and use the average rating method and have the Big Ten at #2.  But your method seems relevant at least as an alternative, especially if there's a way to account for gimme games that don't exist in the Big Ten, such as DePaul, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, etc.

I believe Banks and Gunn are in the portal within 48 hours of our Wednesday night loss in the BTT. I believe Mgbako will enter the portal but go through the draft process while shopping his NIL options; I would put his return at less than 30%. I have no clue why Galloway would use his Covid year to return to this mess with this train wreck of a staff. I hope for his sake he goes elsewhere, he deserves better. They might beg Leal to use his Covid year just for numbers sake.

I tend to agree with this.  Just from Gallo’s body language on the floor, I have a hunch he won’t be back unless we have a new coach that wants him back, and he feels like he fits the system.

  12. I would add a demonstrated ability to recruit and develop players.  That entails talent evaluation, the ability to recruit to the system you want to play, and the ability to piece together a successful team.  Demonstrated player and team improvement with your own recruits.  So not only am I interested in experience, I am interested in someone who has been in the same place(s) long enough to fully evaluate those things.

And I agree that arrogance is a really underrated quality in successful coaches.  I mean, you are basically telling players you know more about what they are doing than they do.  You have to command respect to do that, and a little arrogance doesn't hurt at all.

Respectfully--- and I am NOT trying to tell anyone how to spend their money....

But--- if anyone is actually able to sit and watch their games once conference play starts...

You're looking at like being able to 16+ games a month for $10. 🤷‍♂️

Also-- this weeks broadcast on BTN+ was VERY good. By far the best they've had. 🤞

I’m not going to pay for it.  But I do listen to the IU broadcast of the games when I can.  Whoever it is that announces those games is excellent.

Also.. this is fun, so many of you following this thread. I just so wish this sport/team was more accessible for you all.

You'd greatly appreciate the talent and hustle these dudes display.

Baylors announcers were incredibly complimentary of our guys.

I say this every year, but it’s a shame the Big 10 Network won’t really cover this sport (or softball).

All due respect, but it’s coaching search rumors like this that I take with a thousand grains of salt. Even if it’s coming from Trilly.

if this really is the case, then Pearl isn’t interested and his camp leaked the info.

At this stage in the season, this info would be too sensitive for any source to leak if the interest was mutual.

if a source is saying this then it’s probably pure speculation.

That said, I do appreciate you sharing the rumor.

Pearl has been interested in the IU job for 15 years.  It’s nothing new.

It's pretty different circumstances now than the early Crean years, yeah?

I’ll never forget how hard Crean’s first team played despite having basically no talent.  I was only able to attend one game in person that year, and it just happened to be the only Big 10 game we won, over Iowa.  The place was packed and loud, despite the circumstances.  Still probably my favorite game I’ve ever attended.

Just curious to see what everybody thinks...

IF our starting line-up next year consists of....

    Malik
    Mgbako
    McNeely
    Gallo
    high end PG transfer

On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you that we will run something that resembles more of a 4 out 1 in scheme?

    I think I'm at a 4.

If that’s our lineup, McNeely and the point guard will have to combine for 20 rebounds per game.
