So, you don’t want us shooting more threes with our current team?

You are finally hitting on it... Who's fault is it we dont have the players to play that game????
So are we bitching about 3 point shooting or recruiting?

lol other than the blatant falsehood to start the post, sure, he confused me with facts. The Mike Woodson Knicks were absolutely not at the forefront of this era of basketball.
You skipped my question regarding who on our current team you want shooting more threes.

I wouldn’t put that team in this era of basketball. Carmelo was their 3, which is about all the proof one should need to understand how they played vs how good teams today play
While I do think the answer is yes, I don’t think that’s the example I’d use.
lol. That team was at the forefront of this era of basketball. They shot and made more threes than anybody in the league.
Specifically who on our current team do you want shooting more threes? Galloway? He can’t make a free throw right now. Johnson or Newton? Oh yeah, they’re not playing. Gunn? Is he above 5% in his college career? Mgbako? Sure, maybe, but he’s still not consistent.

Does that team play anything like we currently do?
Do you think if Mike Woodson coached that team, he understands modern basketball?

My follow up would have been, Coach do you watch any modern basketball at all or just old highlight film from your playing days. I watched my first NBA game the other night in 4 years and hell they couldn't get enough 3's shot in one trip.
Have you guys ever watched any games Woodson coached for the Knicks? Ever looked at their stats?

I wonder why?
It’s never made any sense to me why a coach would take a job where the previous coach was fired for poor performance and want to keep a bunch of those players. Seems like a great opportunity to turn the roster over faster and improve.

IU Scott and IU Joe are okay with settling and being mediocre.
Typical BS statement from someone who thinks pissing all over message boards means you have high standards. I was an IU student the last time we won a National Championship. No one wants another one more than I do. I'm not about to help our fan base look like a bunch of damn fools on message boards, thinking that's going to help me get one. Some of you are a lot bigger embarrassment than any basketball game will ever be.

Genuine thoughts on Woodson as a coach? Year 3 and another pathetic, embarrassing, and damning loss for the program.. this is why we’re irrelevant. Woodson can recruit but cannot coach college.
My genuine thoughts:
1. Posts like this are ridiculous.
2. There is little difference between coaching in college and coaching in the NBA.
3. "Woodson can recruit" is an interesting statement. Yes he certainly can, but other than Jalen Hood- Schifino, he really hasn't brought a guard in for 3 recruiting classes that is going to allow us to win at the level we expect.

Talking about the JMU QB, most likely.
Yes.

If you think JMU could compete in the BigTen you’re incredibly naive. In 20 years that program has 2 power 5 wins and one of them is this year’s 3-8 Virginia team by a field goal. This is a completely different landscape than Elon and JMU.
James Madison would have beat Indiana by 2 touchdowns this season.

SC and IU are in the same mess. Unless he gets big NIL money, I don't see any other reason to move to IU.
I don't either. We probably won't have anybody on our roster this year and have to forfeit all our games.

Honest Question, last year UNC started #1 and then nosedived. Did the teams playing them as Quad 1 at the beginning of the season still get credit for Quad 1 at the end of season??
No, the quad records use current rankings all season.

The more I think about it, I think it will be Washington, Michigan, Texas, Alabama. I think they’ve got a built-in excuse in their rules (QB out) to leave Florida State out.

Really happy for the whole Penix family. I mean 2-3 years ago Penix was suffering from injuries,etc....and no doubt the dream of being a NFL QB was going down the drain for him and his family.
Now? All but guaranteed a first round choice, should move up in Heisman talk and they are in CFP.
PS....no clue why Oregon was a 10 point favorite.
The answer to your P.S., which is a fair question, is basically metrics. Oregon won by more, sometimes much more, against common opponents than Washington. The metrics made the first game between the two teams seem like an upset, or at least that Washington only won because they were at home. Oregon’s 81-7 win over Portland State doesn’t hurt those metrics, either. I would guess that if the teams played a third time, Oregon would still be a slight favorite.

In no particular order:
No Brainers: Alex Atkins; Garrett Riley; Sherrone Moore; Tom Herman; Brian Hartline; Seth Littrell
Risky but Frisky: Ryan Grubb, ARE, D Mac, Frye, Hart; Jamey Chadwell; Josh Henson
The list of power 5 coordinators to graduate to success as HC is like 50 to 1 vs guys who coached almost exclusively at the mid major level.
Seth Littrell was 44-44 as a head coach at North Texas. He’s a better candidate than Cignetti? lol

Really? A guy who couldn’t win enough at Texas isn’t even a bit of a gamble? Would love Herman, but ever hear of Fred Akers?

Only knock on him would be that he's taken over winning programs and kept it going (or improved it).
Impressive record especially considering the move from FCS to FBS.
Elon was not a winning program

If it is the cig, I wouldn’t expect a fast turn around. Don’t know if he is a well enough known character to instantly impact recruiting. You can only do so much with recruits that would be 3rd string on a lot of programs.
but I do like the hire if true.
The Cignetti family is pretty well known in football circles. That being said, time will tell. I have a feeling he'll be like Woodson due to his age, he'll want to win now.

Coach Mike Woodson Megathread
in General Basketball Discussion
Posted
I work in a field (taxes) that people bitch about more than this board bitches about Mike Woodson, three point shooting, recruiting, and the brand of our uniforms combined. A lot of people think they know a lot about taxes. They don’t. And there are many, many subjects one could unfortunately say that about, most of which are much less complex than physics.
