Was there some sort of special circumstance?  They should have served 2 years in 5A for success.  I just looked at the impacts.  They did push everyone South.  I didn't follow the whole trail, but Connersville got pushed from 22 to 23 and Bedford from 23 to 24.    Bedford is a better fit in 23, so maybe they move them back to take East Central's spot and just keep 7 teams in 24.  Not sure if they still require having 64 teams in 4A or not.

The IHSAA did some sort of reevaluation of Dwenger at the beginning of the season and determined they did not have enough success factor points to continue in 5A.  If I’m not mistaken, I think Dwenger was in 5A for 3 years.

Final enrollment numbers will ultimately play a part in alignment.  For example, Edgewood is right on the 4A/3A line, and is currently in Sectional 23 with SC.

However, in addition to East Central moving up, the following will/could happen.

FW Dwenger is eligible to drop down from 5A based on no longer qualifying for success factor.  Does their re-entry push  South?  Or West?

And, probably even more impactful to the South 4A sectionals is whether E. Reitz chooses to drop back down to 3A as allowed, or do they want to stay in 4A?  They choose 3A and someone (Northview or SC being the most logical) has to fill the spot.

Just FYI, Dwenger was 4A this season.  They got moved down from 5A just before the season started.

I don't want to muddy up the topic but curious why Sam left.

Don’t take this as gospel, but this is what I heard way back in the day….Sam Wyche was quite a hire for IU to pull off, hiring him away from Bill Walsh’s 49ers staff.  I was told back then that Paul Brown told Wyche he was interested in hiring Wyche as his next head coach, but that he should take the Indiana job to get some experience first.  Wish we could have kept him for a while because all I have ever heard was that he was absolutely killing it on the recruiting trail.  But Wyche was never staying here long term.  Sure enough, the very next season the Cincinnati job opened up and Wyche took it.

Reading through this thread, it seems many of us have similar experiences.  My guess is that many of us are similar in age, and our fathers were from the same generation as coach.  They came from a time when men were hard, and love was tough, and I mean both of those things with the highest respect.  They came from a time when doing what needed to be done took precedence over doing what felt good, when trophies were reserved for winners, not participants.  Like my own father, Coach taught that simply wanting something was not enough, that you had to earn it, because there was no value in something given, but there was immense value and pride in something earned.  I’ll shed some tears today, some for my dad, and some for coach, but most of the tears I shed today will be for the people who never had a man like them in their lives.

Great post.  Pretty much echos my thoughts.

I think using the word committed is where the rub lies.

Committed should mean you have made your choice and are done looking.

However, committed often means this is my leader and I want to save my spot for now.

At least basketball and football both have early signing periods so you know who is really committed (signed) and who is just holding their spot.

Yes.  I heard a coach say awhile back (it may have been Tom Allen) that kids don’t really commit anymore, they make reservations that they may call back and cancel later.

Just an FYI, the prosecution not filing resisting charges doesn't equate to "cops broke his window for no reason". They still had probable cause to arrest him for criminal trespass (a charge that stuck) and used it as a means to get him out of his vehicle that he refused to exit.

They had probable cause but that doesn’t automatically make him guilty.  He’s entered a plea of not guilty.

I would love nothing more than for CTA to right the ship bit I'd actually prefer he be a man and step down and accept a different position within the program or athletic department.   I believe he is an asset but in over his head.

Some of yall are floating Art Briles which is a hard no and we know that.  Dabo Sweeney may be on the chopping block if he can't get ahold of this team in the next 12 months.

Would you be willing to ride out CTA one more year for a legitimate 50/50 shot at Dabo next December?

I would argue that Dabo Sweeney is Tom Allen with a lot more resources at his disposal.

IMO, "today's culture" is everybody has their panties in a wad that someone is going to get "offended". BFD.

When I was 18, I did something stupid, and since the punishment was somewhat public, I never even came close to crossing that line again. Haven't even had a parking ticket since.

IMO, the people with "their panties in a wad" are the ones constantly complaining about "today's culture."

Am I getting this story right? Purdue had a student for some contest nail a 40 yarder during timeout which was followed by their kicker missing the 39 yarder right after?

That’s hilarious if true.  But I’m guessing PU fans were too busy chanting “IU sucks” to even notice, lol.

I don’t know anything about Carey! It sounds

like he’s had some success. Does he like his offense to throw the short and get play makes to break it big! Does he use his running backs an thightends in pass routes! Is he a smash mouth guy. Three four yards and a cloud of dust,

Followed him somewhat while he was at Northern Illinois.  Relied a lot on the run and screen passes.  Threw deep occasionally but not very often.

Women’s volleyball must not use the same rules as men’s football where you need clear and indisputable evidence to overturn a call. IU girls had 3 consecutive calls overturned and I saw nothing to change what was called. Just horrible because they would have been up 2 sets to none against #2 Nebraska.

    Agree.  We got absolutely hosed.

Athletes are a different breed.  I have a Senior in High School that still can't decide between 3 colleges, no athletics even involved.  Can't imagine the pressure and stress these guys roll with.

Absolutely.  I have a HS senior being contacted by small school coaches in his sport, and can’t decide if he wants to play his sport or give it up and go to IU, which has an excellent program in his chosen field of study.  They change their minds almost daily.  And there’s nothing wrong with that.  It’s the rest of their lives at stake.  That’s why I just chuckle when people think they are sure where these kids are gonna go to school, and I literally laugh out loud when fans of whatever school flippantly post that a coach “whiffed” when he doesn’t get a kid.
