UM was 8-20 from three against Maryland at home recently (still good @ 40%); 11-17 against IU.  That's unworldly good shooting, even when shooting wide open shots.  I don't care how good of a team you have, when your opponent is shooting 65% from three, you're not going to win.

Syracuse and Iowa both shot out of their minds for long stretches of those particular games; I would argue both of those teams played their best games thus far against IU.

The UM game is the only game IU hasn't been in this year; every other game IU has had a shot of winning within the last few minutes, and the only reason IU wasn't in it against UM is that they shot 65% from three.

We can say the defense wasn't up to the task all we want, but sometimes the other team just has a better day.

I think we get back on track tomorrow and finish out strong.  I don't see a single game on the rest of the schedule that I think is a sure loss.

No question we played really poor defense against the 3, but you still have make the shot even when wide open. Let’s face it, Michigan played out of their minds… just happens sometimes. We’ll bounce back and beat PSU by double digits.

  2. As disappointing as this was, it wasn’t totally unexpected, especially after acting like we had won the national championship against Purdue. I can understand the excitement, but that just set us up for failure today. My guess is that we’ll bounce back and will be ready for Penn St and win easily. Still a lot of the season left,  with plenty of time for more big wins.

I hear what you're saying, and you're not wrong. With a loss the season is not over, tournament hopes are not gone, etc.

But this is a huge game for momentum, for the health of the program, and more. Especially with how the schedule is laid out, there is a big difference between 6-3 and 5-4 in the conference.

Don’t forget Penn St is up next, and we’re likely 16-4 and 7-3 in conference after that game, if we win today. Make no mistake, this is a big game, but aren’t they all?

  4. As good as our guards were last night, and don’t get me wrong they were fantastic, we don’t win that game without Durr’s outstanding defense on Edey and Williams. To hold those two guys to a combined 14 pts is really unbelievable, especially for a guy that averages about 5 min a game. I doubt that TJD would have done any better than that even if he had played most of the game. I haven’t looked at the stats, but I doubt anyone has done a better job against those guys all season long. Way to go Durr…you stepped up big time!

  5. I wish I didn’t feel so bad after a disappointing loss like last night, but I guess it’s because I grew up with the Hoosiers during the RMK era, and got spoiled watching those GREAT teams. Every year I keep thinking we’re about to turn the corner, and continue to be disappointed. We had a glimmer of hope with Zeller, Oladipo and company, but even then we fell short. Oh well, there’s always the next game and that’s Nebraska….go Hoosiers!
