This is exactly what scares me.  He can watch video of Ivey and see what he will be able to do.  Who is he going to watch at IU from a guard standpoint??

Well one thing is he will see player development. Just look at the improvement in Xavier from the start of the season to the end of it, he was a completely different player. Or for his NBA aspirations he can look at Trayce going from a possible undrafted free agent to a potential 1st round pick. Those are two players whose stock has risen tremendously under Coach Woodson in just one season.

No idea what our chances are, but I do know Painter and Brantley recruited him pretty hard in high school as well, plus he played with Ivey and Furst in AAU. With Hunter, Ivey and Sasha gone, minutes are there for the taking.

They also supposedly backed off him because they already had one small guard in IT, so I wouldn't really say they recruited him hard. In fact that is kind of an FU to him because of only being 6ft.

Starting to feel that Pack might be PU'S To lose. Also hearing lots of discussion between the parties for quite some time. Was billed as Iveys replacement and won't miss a beat

It wouldn't surprise me to see him go there. Also if there has been discussions for awhile isn't that against the rules?  The few Purdue fans I know say they would never break the rules to win lol.

seriously. Why in the hell would he keep anyone from Archies staff that failed and get rid of Fife. I think Woody did not like looking over his shoulder. But why a guy from shit hole PA

While I am not all that thrilled with the Fife situation, I doubt that Woody was really worried and looking over his shoulders. Also what makes you think that Walsh failed? Archie Miller failed but that doesn't mean everyone from his staff did.

  5.  Will Smith is definitely coming across as a douche here. He was asked to leave but refused. Plus there is a video now from a different angle and it looks like Jada laughing the whole time, until Will started running his mouth. She sure didn't seem offended in the video.

Fair point. Painter’s floor is pretty damn high though. Ceiling has some work to do. I think about if we did fire Painter, who’s to say some other guy would be better? Grass ain’t always greener.

Painter is a good coach, but he is what he is at this point, Gene Keady 2.0, good regular season coach but an average to below average tournament coach. I would assume that Purdue fans want to win a National Championship sometime. Under Painter they have had some of their best teams and best players of all time, but other than the one Elite they haven't really gotten close to a Championship. Eventually you have to question whether the guy you have can get you to the top of the the mountain or not, and so far Painter hasn't shown he is capable of doing that.

Exactly. All the message board respect in the world to a couple of our friends but Purdue isn't the goal. Loyer will be a fine player. Might be a thorn in our side....or he might not.

Morton, Newman were big misses (so we've been told)....and of course Mr. Universe Ivey all still meant no Big Ten Titles and an ousting by Peacock Mustache guy.

I can't like this post enough. Yes Purdue has had a nice little run under Painter, but I want March success as a Hoosier fan, not Boilermaker success. Also Morton might turn out to be a miss but nothing about Newman says he is a loss. 😀 👍 👍 👍 👍

The Athletic has a good ranking of best available HS seniors and transfer portal options up, for anyone who subscribes. Looks to be constantly updated:

    https://theathletic.com/3211734/2022/03/30/ranking-the-best-available-mens-college-basketball-transfers-and-high-school-recruits-for-2022-23/

A few notes that stood out to me. Reneau is currently #2 overall behind Yohan Traore. Julian Phillips is #3, with Brandon Murray #4, Curbelo #7, Brazile #8, Williams (Murray State big) #10, Terrance Shannon #11, Sparks #25, and McNeil #26.

For McNeil, they suggest he's a major defensive liability, one who West Virginia regularly had to game plan around to cover his deficiencies at that end.

Some other names that stood out, who I don't think have been brought up yet:

Will Richard (Belmont - #9 overall) - NBA athleticism and length, could be elite scorer with a tweak to his mechanics.

Jalen Bridges (WVU - #13 overall) - 6'7" wing who shot 40% from 3 in good minutes as a freshman, but took a step backwards as a sophomore despite increased minutes. Could be a good bounce back candidate who would thrive in "a well-spaced high-ball-screen scheme on offense and a switching defensive scheme."

Antonio Reeves (Illinois State - #19 overall) - 6'5" wing, high volume scorer with near elite shot creation skills, but struggles at facilitating others and on the defensive end.

Curbelo and McNeil would be a hard pass on. Curbelo plays to much out of control and if McNeil is that bad on defense then I definitely wouldn't want him. Coach Woodson is all about the defense so I don't see where he would fit in.

Reneau and Sparks sounds like we have a chance to get one of them, which is good because we might need one or maybe both of them. Bridges could be an interesting player to get.

JG needs to EARN more playing time. Work his butt off this summer to improve in areas he’s deficient. Become a better shooter, better ball handler, more consistent.

Not directed at him necessarily, but in general it grinds me when players leave for what they perceive as greener pastures, because they don’t want to put the work in to overcome obstacles where they are.

Get it that other programs will tell a player whatever they think he wants to hear, as they are trying to sell him. On the other hand, I think these “advisors “ often do a disservice .

No matter what he does as far as working to get better IF Trayce and Race both returned his minutes are going to be limited and a starting spot probably not happening.

Not a surprise so UI will have to replace a lot especially if Kofi leaves which I think he will.  They lose Frazier, Plummer,Williams and Curbello.

Yeah Coach Underwood has his work cut out for him next season. No All-Americans on that roster like Ayo or Kofi to make things easier on him. Plus a lot of experience leaving in Frazier and the others. 👍

I think some are misunderstanding the reasons I'm being coy.

As an Indiana fan and someone who knows Booker, his interests and his game very, very well: it's for the best, as an IU fan, if he ends up elsewhere.

There's many, many reasons for this. Those don't need to be public.

If Coach Woodson is the coach everyone thinks he is then I will go with him on this. The Hoosiers are still recruiting him and seem to maybe be in the lead for him, so whatever it is they must not be to worried about it.

I would imagine they have done their homework on Booker.

Just remember….we have 2-3 players you guys wanted

Furst (although Dunscom dominated him in an AAU game)

    TKR….and maybe Morton

Hmm not sure what that has to do with anything.

It doesn't change what I said. Newman is underwhelming, TKR no one has any idea what he can be, is he another Brooks or something alot better like TJD, plus the jury is still out on Furst. Like I said a couple of decent young players but that is all they are for now.

Also the guards are a lot weaker right now. Take away Ivey and Purdue's backcourt looks pretty underwhelming. Which as we all know is the key to success in March

Purdue better hope Braden smith is good enough to start right away. I think he will be good but not sure about starting as a freshman good.

With the players they are losing, especially Ivey I see them taking a big step back next season. They have a couple of decent young players but none of them have shown a whole lot up to this point.

With an undersized center. Honestly we got better once we pulled Trayce out on the floor and ran the pick n roll and got him out of simply trying to post bigger guys.

Yeah and once the Hoosiers started doing that Trayce started playing better, which has also coincided with him moving up some draft boards.

The B1G needs to sign a peace treaty. No more signing lumbering bigs 6’10 and over 260 lol. It’s like survivor where every team is in an arms race to survive what Purdue/Wisky/Illinois/Michigan is doing lol. I mean even PSU and Northwestern do it. At some point some teams need to break the mold and be brave and trust the process….play a different bread of ball and force everyone else to adjust to them.

Hopefully Coach Woodson is looking to get away from the model those teams set, which I think he is. If he does and has success with it I think other teams and the league will follow suit.
