But we don't have the starters to be compared to them, to begin with.

I never said we did. It just shows that a deep bench rotation isn't needed or even having a deep bench is needed to make a March run.

Having a deep bench is vital anymore. Even just a really reliable 6th man goes a long way with the right coach.

Kansas was 296th in bench minutes, North Carolina was 344th and Duke was 314th. It's quality not quantity that is the most important aspect of your bench.

To be fair, in the championshipgame this year, UNC had 4 players play over 35 minutes.  Kansas had 2, and another play 34.  Both teams had someone go 40.

Also Agbaji averaged 35.1 minutes per game this season and Christian Braun was close at 34.4. Caleb Love was at 34.4. There actually are players that play 35 minutes and quite a few close at 34.

I am late to this conversation so ignore if this was already posted lol.

    • While James and Davis are widely expected to remain in Los Angeles going forward, Russell Westbrook‘s future is cloudier. According to Charania, rival executives believe the Pacers will be open to discussing trades involving Malcolm Brogdon and Buddy Hield and could emerge as a Westbrook suitor, which is something Marc Stein suggested over the weekend. While Brogdon and Hield would be good fits on the Lakers’ roster, L.A. would likely have to attach sweeteners to Westbrook to realistically make any deal with Indiana.

Lakers have nothing that is worth attaching as sweetener to take an on albatross like Westbrook. Maybe if they had their first round pick this season, but since they don't Pritchard needs to hang up anytime someone from the Lakers calls.

It shows how much the NBA has changed that Thshiebwe is projected mid to late second round. Dude averaged 17 pts and 15 boards per game. Dale Davis had zero offensive game coming out of college (although he averaged 17 pts on dunks and putbacks), but averaged 12 boards. He was the 13th pick and played 17 seasons in the league.

Yeah it is crazy how the NBA is anymore. Not to long ago Thshiebwe, Kofi, Trayce and probably even Hunter would all have been top 10 picks but now might never get drafted.

I forgot about the emergence of Logan Duncomb.  You are right, no homerism, i just forgot that all of our bench players will be awesome as starters and no one else in the conference is trying to improve either.  So, 3rd's about the floor?

I said we have no clue about Logan, but nice try though. And evidently you only think other teams improve but not the Hoosiers. Also I never said they will be 3rd without Trayce, if you paid attention I said they won't finish 10th if he leaves. But I guess that doesn't fit your narrative so you keep on being you ok.

Have we addressed your lack of three point shooters?
Are we counting on one of these incoming freshmen to do it?
can Bates breakout and do it? Kopp if he come back ? Johnson if he’s still on the team? Just a lot up in the air for us in my humble opinion!

Almost every single team in college ball has questions coming into a season. Michigan and Illinois are potential Top20 teams along with the Hoosiers, but they also have big question marks. Is Kofi returning, can they replace the shooting and experience that Frazier and Plummer provided. Michigan has players possibly going to the draft so how good will they be if those players do go.

The B1G is going to be down next season so the regular season championship is wide open. Don't care about the B1G tourney lol.

I don't know why you would think that, other than homerism or other teams getting worse?

Well first place other teams have gotten worse. Also it is called improvement from within, Bates, Jordan, Galloway should be improved. Or do you think players never improve when they get to college. Logan is also a blank slate so we don't know what he can be.

Plus the freshman coming in are pretty good players. I've seen JHS play a few games and he is the real deal. Banks I haven't seen much of but most people think pretty highly of him. Gunn is a four year player so he will take longer. Also Coach Woodson has another year of adjusting to college ball so he will be improved.

Teams lose great players all the time in college and still have good teams the following season. Just look at Iowa who lost Garza and improved with Murray who nobody expected to turn out like he did. Or Wisconsin with Davis, he came out of nowhere and they surprised people this season.

We also have no clue who Coach Woodson is bringing in from the portal. There are plenty of reasons to think IU will be good even without Trayce, so no homerism here.

  9.  SMU Kendric Davis entered the portal today, he was the AAC player of the year. Shot 37.2% from 3-point range. Would love to see the IU coaching staff contact him. Will probably be considered the top transfer and have a long list of teams after him. He declared for the draft a couple of days ago.

I'll wait till rosters are set.  This means little to nothing

That is why I said it will change. It does give a baseline though of what they think potentially about teams going into next year, and evidently IU is expected to be pretty good next season if Trayce returns.

You don't think Duarte is his future running mate.  I want to see the Pacers in position to draft Smith or Bachero

I like Duarte and think he is going to be pretty good. My fingers are crossed for Holmgren, Smith and Banchero will be one and two so the Pacers probably won't be in position to get them.

Haliburton, Duarte, Jackson and Holmgren would be a nice young nucleus to build around.

  12.  Pacers need to just keep the course they are on. Draft Haliburton running mate with their top 10 pick and if they get Clevelands pick this year maybe try and package it with Brogdon or Turner to move up in the draft. The only trades I want with Myles or Malcolm is for draft picks or young prospects.

Fan bases always overvalue their team. If we don't get start now Big ten caliber players then no preseason ranking will have us better than fifth in conference.  And no one outside of this board or other home or IU fans would have us any higher either.

Well this actually isn't true, as of now which is way to early the few pre-season polls I have seen so far has the Hoosiers third behind Michigan and the Illini, and Top 25 in them. All three teams at the top are there predicated on if Trayce, Kofi and Hunter come back. These will all change of course but it does give an idea off where these teams might be.

Arkansas Razorbacks are No. 1 in Way-Too-Early Top 25 college basketball rankings for 2022-23 (espn.com)

Good luck to TJD. If he will be drafted in the first round, he should absolutely go. If not, come back and hopefully next year he will go in the first round  NBA. He is a great kid and I hope the NBA works out for him whether this upcoming draft or next years.

His projections are all over the place, I've seen from first round all the way to undrafted. If he is expected to go first then he should 100% go. 👍

Yes, I hope Justin Smith and Al Durham have nice professional careers and will follow both of them about as close as I do any IU player.

Yeah same here, I try to follow all Hoosier players even after they leave the IU. I kept up with all the Hoosiers transfers from last season, checking up on box scores and watching an occasional game their teams played. I probably watched 10 Providence games this season, and before this season had maybe watched ten all time.
