I think it's fair to say that Woody doesn't and won't play Cal's game. Cal has long been thought of as slimy and a cheat on the recruiting trail. Coach Woodson won't sink down to his level. I have said it before, Woodson has too many weapons at is disposal to try to beat Cal at is own game. JMO

I guess that I should’ve been more specific. To further elaborate on what I meant to imply is that I’d love nothing more than for Woody to beat Cal out for a top level guard, projected to someday play in the league.

  2. Man I hope it’s just smoke for the announcement, but at this point, none of us know. The Trilly connection is somewhat worrisome. That being said, recruiting is fluid… all the way down to the announcement itself. I don’t feel strongly one way or another. However, I do feel like we’re in good shape and that if we aren’t doing the “Boogie” on Friday, Woody will be in the kitchen cooking up something this spring.

  3. I haven’t been able to watch very many MV games, but I have watched Queen and McNeeley play three times. Growing up in southern Florida, I made some connections and still have a couple. Now, admittedly, neither of my friends know what the recruits are going to do, because in the basketball business, and at a factory like MV, it’s all about the product. As someone in this thread previously mentioned, DQ is an old school big with soft hands around the basket with great footwork on the offensive end. Defensively he’s a load. Lateral movement will be the primary concern coming into his freshman season, but you’d better believe that he knows that. “DQ’s vision and instinct to be in the right place on both ends of the floor make him a highly sought after player. Not very many guys, even five stars, are polished enough to come right into the college game and make an immediate impact.” That’s a quote from one of my friends who still live in the area and watch MV play when he can. I personally feel like he will be a three year, maybe even a four year player in college. Most likely due to his style of play. I think he’d be a very valuable addition for IU, and could step right in and add some value right away. I don’t believe he will start, but could definitely log solid minutes as soon as he gets to campus(if he indeed comes to IU).

Edit: DQ not starting is predicated on Malik likely returning for his junior season and Payton Sparks, at least initially, getting a shot at starting his senior season.

  4. A couple of things on Boogie:

    1. I know some Kentucky people who are afraid of getting into a bidding war with IU. They are convinced that NIL is how Indiana Basketball returns to prominence, and are confident that IU boosters like Cuban, the Cooks etc could just throw an unearthly amount of money towards recruits… and even though that isn’t truly the case, I do agree to an extent that IUBB will greatly benefit via NIL.

    2. Boogie just seems like a fantastic young man with a high IQ for the game, and an all around level-headed kid in general.

I would say it was the other way around and stopped recruiting him.when.he was not interested

I get it, but what I meant to say and should’ve added, was that once FB made it clear that he wasn’t 100% interested in IU and he’d always liked duke… did we turn our priorities to the more polished player? I just don’t think that it was a coincidence that Queen came to the forefront once FB said that he’d been waiting on a Duke offer.

  6. I’m obviously not saying that this happened, but is it possible that something changed on our end recently? As in, perhaps our staff decided not to prioritize Flory, and felt more comfortable moving forward with Queen? All smoke and mirrors here, but I haven’t the slightest idea how we don’t make his final four unless we backed off. I really won’t pretend to know anything about this recruitment, other than things ended weird.

  7. Just read about the Hoosiers currently in the NBA… and saw where Romeo is officially free to sign with anyone since the Spurs declined their team option on him. I really had high hopes for him and understand that he’s only 23, and that there’s still plenty of time to recover. Honestly though, he’s been underwhelming this far. I really hope that he can figure it out, and staying healthy is a big part of that.

Noah Vonleh’s NBA career may also be over. While Gordon, Zeller, Bryant and Vic all have new homes. Rumors of OG being traded etc.

Chasing the smaller white ball around today and one of the guys said the Reds have 27 come from behind wins? That's really good/awesome.....but not something you want to press your luck on the rest of the year.

That’s true, they’ve been a resilient bunch, but you can’t rely on those outcomes all season. That being said, their offense is becoming a juggernaut since calling up ELDC and McLain. If they can remain competitive until they get their pitchers back from the IL, they can change the playoff landscape.

Elly+McClain would be untouchable for me, as well.

And your opinion on Marte and India is exactly why, maybe waiting, is the best long term option.

Yes, you would lose the entire fanbase and cause irreparable damage throughout baseball if they were to even consider moving Elly or McLain. They could probably get ELDC for peanuts if they offered him 10 + $300 million, or 8 + $240. When he becomes a free agent, he could demand an astronomical price tag. Pay him for 10 years and he’s 31/32 when the contract is over.

That was kind of my point. I also dont want to see them dump someone like Steer for the same reason.

The Reds have pitching... two or three of the arms are still in the minors, sure... but if Lodolo comes back healthy, I'm not sure they aren't better served to sit back this season, allow it to play out however, and then go from there.

Simply put.. idk that Stephenson and India are long term guys, among other things/question marks.

I think you hold onto India until Marte is ready. Then you can move India and get a nice haul for him, as long as Marte becomes what we all think he will. I believe that Senzel is an intriguing piece right now. He and Maile could get you a couple of really decent arms to boot, along with another prospect or two. As long as they don’t give up CES, Marte, or Collier, I’d be fine with a move or two.

  11. I just hope that the Reds don’t give up CES for a rental or two year player. That guy can absolutely rake too. It’ll be tough to sustain this offense, and I know that Greene and Lodolo are still a ways from returning, but… if they can somehow manage to remain a threat without giving away much, I like their chances. What a fun team to watch!

Well if we were filling the roster in 24 and 25 with one and done talent it would be nice to have those 4 year upperclassman to lean on when they leave. There will be plenty of scholarships in 24 and 25…we don’t need to save any.

New landscape in college basketball. Yes, I think upperclassmen are important, but from what I’ve heard, we’ll be replacing 6-8 every year via transfers and recruits. I would like 4-5 developed kids from our own program though. Just not sure kids are willing to wait for their opportunity anymore.

I wasn't really expecting it, but it seemed to me the people who think every scholarship needs to be filled thought it was either Reeves, and if we couldn't get him, Hart...

My own opinion is it'll be fine to pocket the scholly for next season if we can't find the right fit

Definitely about finding the right fit, and if you do fill it, grad transfer for sure. Hart may end up being a nice 4 yr player, but he’d just replace Leal at the bottom of the bench and doesn’t seem likely that he’d be much of an impact until his junior season.

Getting a graduate transfer would accomplish the same thing.   In today's world, finding someone with only 1 year left isn't that hard.

My comment was directed towards someone expecting Hart to commit. I think we would’ve already offered if that were the case.

So if Reeves announces he's back to the bluegrass today as they expect, can we expect a Joey Hart announcement for IU soon?

No, what we can expect is… Woody banking that scholarship and using it on one of the top 24 kids that we want to come to Bloomington.

Truth is, I prefer Queen, but had given up on him before. Glad to know we are still in the mix for him.

Me too. I think Flory has elite athleticism, but still viewed him as a raw pro prospect. Queen looks like an immediate contributor and more polished at this point. Not saying Flory won’t be amazing, but he does remind me a little of HMP.

  17. IMG_0029.thumb.jpeg.b717cdba5b51c65b69451296bbd8e565.jpegOne has to wonder… is this indeed the new norm?  I wasn’t sure where to post this, but thought that it might need its own thread. Since mostly everyone is reporting for summer workouts, I saw this tweet and found it intriguing. Evidently there are several kids that still are unclear on their immediate futures, and some haven’t reported to their new schools yet. As the tweet reads, this is primarily in regards to 4 and 5 star recruits. That being said, some of the no-shows are portal guys, including at the moment, Anthony Walker. Does anyone know why he hasn’t stepped on campus yet?
