I thought we all wanted to stop having 2 post up players in the lineup. I agree we need more big guys but with a different skill set.

Absolutely, we just need a post player athletic enough to play the high post and carbon copy who can come in to mix it up on occasion. Not too much to ask, imo.

Also needs to be able to shoot from 15+ ft and hit about a 37% clip from deep. There’s gotta be a dozen of those available!

  2. Completely unrelated, but I watched Blue Chips last night. Even back in 1994, when this movie came out… there was obvious evidence of tampering/illegal recruiting. Most of us just wanted to look the other way. I feel like you have to use back channels anymore to compete for these kids. Now that you can legally pay for their services, it seems like having backhanded conversations isn’t all that bad.

  3. Well, I wish we could’ve avoided this thread for a couple more weeks, but here we are.

Just my opinion, but I expect to return:

    1. XJ

    2. Trey

    3. Malik

    4. Banks

    5. Leal

     Graduating, or going pro:

    1. TJD

    2. JHS

    3. Race

    4. Kopp

    Not sure what’s next:

    1. Bates

    2. Geronimo

    3. Gunn

    4. Duncomb

I really don’t look for Geronimo and Duncomb to return, leaving seven scholarship openings. I think Bates will return if he can handle some constructive criticism from Woody. Gunn should return, but there’s no guarantees today.

Don't kill me, but those are my thoughts currently.

I think part of it is a turnover in coaches and coaching philosophy.  Izzo, Painter, Gard, and Piekell are never going to change style.  For Painter and Gard, it's the only way they can win.  Izzo probably plays that way because it wins than it is a necessity like it is for Painter and Gard.

Just said this earlier. Coaching is what’s holding this league back. I think Woody would like to get up and go, but not sure that any other coach in the league is willing to embrace this style of play.

  5. We were basically a two horse team for most of the season, but the XJ injury played a major hand in the “what if” department. It does seem as if we’re snake bitten from an injury perspective. Scott May and Alan Henderson could’ve resulted in banners. I still think that the 2012 team, not the 2013 favorites, could’ve made the UK game very interesting with a healthy Verdell Jones. He played extremely well his senior season and played great against UK in the Wat Shot game. We lost by 12 points in a barn burner because Jordy was stuck guarding Teague most of the game. Snake bitten!

  6. Other than it being the last game that TJD will play in an Indiana uniform… what hurts the most is how we lost the hustle plays tonight.

Woody, please get us some knock down shooters, along with a few gap guys to align next season for the 24 class. I long for the glory days.

Just a question…who do you think it affects more…the kids or the refs?? Because when I played I didn’t even hear the crowd…I didn’t even know they were there….but the refs…no doubt they do…and I see them get swayed all the time.

100% the refs, but GC was very efficient and won soundly tonight. The score was 56-40 but Scottsburg couldn’t buy a bucket early on and GC didn’t miss. Pretty evenly matched game otherwise. Both teams return almost everyone.

I heard Scottsburg brought quite the crowd in the morning session.

I didn’t go, but saw some pictures that someone posted, and they sure did. It makes a difference.

Should be a big crowd of Scottsburg fans this evening too.

Bengals sign Orlando Brown jr...4 yrs...$64m...$31m signing bonus.  Who says the Bengals are cheap.  Oh yeah...everyone...including me.  LOL.  😋

Bengals were notoriously cheap before Burrow. That being said, they’re spending it like it grows on trees. Heard on ESPN 1530 earlier that Burrow’s deal is expected to be at or around $560 million plus incentives. They added Brown today, and are fine with letting aging players walk or cutting them to bring in guys that they believe will help get them over the hump. I’d say they’re changing that narrative, or at least trying to change it.

I know of at least a dozen Hoosiers from Marco up to Sanibel that were praying for Orlando....factor in half of Indiana is on Spring Break this week and Orlando would have been a home game too.

There’s actually some Hoosiers bars down there. I was in Orlando taking the kids to Disney world when IU beat UK in the round of 32, back in 2016. I was looking for a place to go, and ended up finding an IU alumnus owned bar. It was fantastic! That place was packed, so I asked the guy if this is where all Hoosiers go to watch games? He said that Florida has a large group of transplants from Indiana. I knew there were a lot, but IU is definitely one of the best fan bases in the country and travel as well, if not better than all but a select few. I could see Tennessee football sending an army, but I went with a friend who actually has degrees from both schools to a game in Knoxville a few years back… and even when Indiana isn’t very good, there’s a drastic difference in basketball followers from both schools. They happened to beat Kentucky that night, and that made the 4 hour drive worth it.

I think there will be more UT fans in Orlando than IU fans, or at least very close.. And more Indiana fans in Albany, than there would be Tennessee, by quite a bit.

I grew up just south of Orlando. Lots of Hoosiers live down there, and the snowbirds usually stick around until mid May as well. I’d guess that just about anywhere, IU basketball fans would swarm in droves.

  12. Is anyone else going? I can’t make it to Friday’s opening round, but IF we pull it out… I’m looking at tickets/traveling expenses for Sunday’s game. I’ve never been to Albany, but lived in KC for 6 months for work some time ago.

I like KC, but am intrigued by making the Albany trip if we prevail. Obviously we’d have to make it to the Sweet 16 in order to get to KC.

As much as most Hoosier fans hate Sampson, my dad played college ball with him at Pembroke State in North Carolina. He and I shared a couple stories back when he was recruiting in Indy in 06. My dad passed away back in 95. Even though we didn’t like how Sampson’s tenure ended, he’s a hell of a coach. I can’t help but wonder what if we had stood up for him, much like all of these other power 5 schools stood up for their guys. Self at Kansas, Drew at Baylor, and the list goes on. Nevertheless, I always thought it was a petty thing, and the very next year… you could make as many phone calls as you’d like. I have always thought that he could’ve got us at least number 6 by now. Anyway, that’s why I’d like to make the trip to KC.

    Go Hoosiers!
