I would say Cupps would say something about this

I don’t think we can view the point guard position as singular any longer. So I’m not too sure that anyone would say anything about it. When it comes down to winning time, I’d bet that Woody would like to have his best ball handlers and free throw shooters on the floor together.

I’m not really sure I know where I stand on this??? One thought comes to mind though about team chemistry with or without CL. Last year TJD and Race were willing to take players to task!!! It wasn’t just the staff! I don’t think we have that this year, so how is that going to work out? Time will tell!

    Agree with this.

  3. This is all I know about the Love situation, according to some familiar with his time at UNC. Love is tremendously talented, but selfish, and not necessarily on the court, but rather as a teammate. He apparently slept with a couple of his teammates girlfriends last summer, fresh off of a big sophomore season. That obviously caused turmoil in the locker room.

My take? Lots of upside, and a change of scenery could catapult him and the program. If he buys what Woody’s selling, the sky is the limit. Last season we wanted multiple threats to be multi-dimensional. He provides us with exactly that. Next year is going to be tough enough trying to gel an uber talented combination of bigs, with a couple of solid upperclassmen guards, mixed with some raw underclassmen.

I'm more worried about someone to back up X! We still don't have anyone else that can stay in front of players like Boo Buie.

Not saying Cupps is anywhere near the defender that X is, but he’s quicker than he gets credited. Very nice first step on both ends. TG is an admirable defender in his own right.

  5. I know that the next commit likely comes from the combine… just trying to think of which one fits the mold. I’m getting more and more excited about the potential for next season. I can’t recall of any IU team in program history that had an entire front court full of 5 kids!

Talent just isn’t as widespread down there as it is in metro Indy. You’ll have 3 top 10 teams in the same sectional here.

You do realize that New Albany also played many games against other top talents across this region of the country while Romeo was there, right? Not just the HHC, who are legitimately considered one of the top HS conferences in the state.

  7. Bottom line, the idea of a message board is fun for speculating and discussing IU hoops amongst other topics. That being said, I’m not following a bunch of young men and dissecting their social media accounts to gather information, or make an attempt to decipher where they may or may not be playing college basketball. I take any information from those willing to do so with a grain of salt. 🍻

I think that is close to accurate.  Even the coaching staff isn't 100% until a kid commits.  So any, "He's a lock" or "He is a heavy IU lean" stuff is just speculation that is probably coming with a heavy IU bias.

It is entertaining to get the info and it gives you an idea what the staff may be thinking, but again, unless your source is the player or someone really close to them, you are probably just reading tea leaves like everyone else (but you may have a little better view of some of the leaves).

Leave it at that...it would be nice to wrap up portal season so we can start arguing how big a leap Gunn and Banks are going to make this summer.

Even a player can change their mind after they’ve told certain people that they think they know where they want to go. It’s happened before.

Hear me out for a second. Everyone who was wrong about Ledlum signing is now assuming that IU lost the recruiting battle. How do we know that the coaching staff didn't change their minds as opposed to Ledlum changing his? I'm not trying to be obtuse. I believe the quality of players at the Wing position available right now are significantly better then there were when Ledlum first entered the portal in early March.

I feel the same way, as far as more/better wing options being available now. I think what gets people so fired up is that he was marked as a big IU target, and the staff thought that he was coming. Therefore folks were up in arms when he committed elsewhere. It is what it is, but there are plenty of guys available… finding the right fit to be competitive next season will be key.

  10. Look, I know that everyone is chomping at the bits to land the next commitment, but early in the portal… Ledlum was considered to be the 7th or 8th best transfer available. Just a few days ago, I believe someone here posted that he was 53rd best available. My point is that he’s a decent fish in an increasingly large lake. There’s going to be others from major programs moving into the portal and we’ll be claiming them to be the next must have.

That being said, I do believe that the B1G has a major perception problem in hoops. They have to make changes that are more appealing to young men looking to showcase their abilities on the basketball court. I think Woodson has and will continue to make IU a destination, but the majority of the league lacks flash and/or any relative success aside from the Michigan teams, Purdue in the regular season, and an occasional run by Ohio State and Maryland team. IU sells prestige and tradition, but even we haven’t been consistent in the postseason in quite some time… although Woody and company are trending in the right direction.

  11. Any word on Knecht? I heard days ago that he wanted to come for a visit, but nothing more. I also saw where many expect Oregon to win that… not sure.

Lots of smoke with the KC rumblings. A reclassification allows him to improve against better comp and get paid. Those opposed remembering Lander, know that KL’s situation was different. There’s many more cases where reclassifying has been beneficial than not.

Can anyone let me know who Ware comps to and what he exactly will bring to the table? Is he basically going to play same role as TJD? If so that’s confusing because I thought Woodson said he wanted to get away from that.

He can shoot some from 25 ft out. He isn’t as explosive from an athletic perspective, but knows his way around the rim. He has a lot of upside, but from what many here have previously stated, Altman couldn’t unlock the talent. Motivation was said to be an issue, but perhaps that changes with some new scenery.
