It was. I was impressed by SWs student section. I hope the sectional is there every year, plus I think it's the biggest gym in the sectional.

Southwesterns shot selection early in the game kind of expedited the inevitable, imo. I do know they like to play fast, hectic.

They were a good host school. I still can’t believe that they beat Scottsburg. Their only hope against Brownstown was to get hot from deep early, and they were anything but that. I credit them for playing well over the last few years, and think they’ll still be alright next season, but they get young fast. They have some decent players(transfers from Madison), but very little varsity experience coming back. I think you guys run away in that sectional next year too. I know that things can change between now and then… but I can’t see the Braves not winning it handedly again next year. The following season may be different.

  2. Flory is extremely athletic and would thrive in the pick-n-roll, but he’s raw offensively and does remind me a little of Hanner in that aspect. I’d love to see what he could become under Woodson though.

I like Queen a lot, and feel like he’s probably better suited for what I’ve seen schematically from Woodson’s offense.

Burgess intrigues me, and think he could solid.

Somto is a grown man. If he could develop something from the 10-15 ft range, he’d be unstoppable.

Again, I’d be happy to land any of them.

    Alphabetical order:

    Bidunga

    Burgess

    Queen

    Somto

The order and preference of IU's coaches is obviously different and for those who follow the rankings closely (I don't... for sure) it would maybe be a surprise. But, here's to hoping they land one of those four targets. 🥂 Cheers

Any one of those four would be a welcomed addition.

I did see one guy decked out in all Madison gear walking in.. he officiates a lot of JV basketball. Can't remember his name, good dude though.

    Where did you sit?

I don’t wear Madison gear if they aren’t playing, so it definitely wasn’t me. I sat with a couple of guys who have boys that play for Southwestern, a few rows up behind their bench. Great environment!

    Were you there? I was.

    1. Parker Hehman was fantastic

    2. I think we are becoming more and more comfortable defensively. Really good on that end tonight.

    3. Forgot how much I liked that gym. Also.. we parked WAY out... on the elementary school playground lol... they had a shuttle bus!!! Two of them, couldn't believe it. So cool.

Yes, Hehman had a huge first half. They looked good, and played well defensively. I guess that I should’ve asked you if you were going… maybe one day I can put a face with the name. lol

Gabe Cupps and Flory Bidunga at the Michigan game in Bloomington.  Cupps is committed, of course.  And as noted before, there were loud "We Want Flory!" chants from the student section, which he heard.

For a kid who some say is a lock for his Cincy handlers so they can advance their own careers, he sure seems to like his visits to IU, where he can advance his own career.

Definitely not a lock. I just have heard that Cincinnati is in a good spot. I remember telling the board back in 2012 that Gary Harris was a lock, then caught a lot of rift when I explained that he had decided to go to MSU instead before announcing his decision. I coached Gary at one point and had a good connection with him. When I told the guys at our old site about him pulling a 180 because Crean spooked him a little, I was getting called everything under the sun. I’ll never say that anyone or anything is a lock again. Hopefully he decides to call Bloomington his home for a year or two, but I won’t call it one way or the other.

He isn't a post player. Grew up a guard and is a tad weak/needs the weight room. He struggled to score inside against stronger players.

But very skilled and can shoot it.

True, he has nice touch and have had him play on one my teams a couple times when they were younger. I was just hopeful that someone would develop his post game once he started to really shoot up.

Scottsburg absolutely destroyed Silver Creek tonight in the sectional semi-final (postponed last night due to weather) by a score I believe was 80-48. I bring it here, not because my kids school lost, but because Scottsburg put on possibly the best shooting exhibition i have ever seen in a high school game.  I don't know the final shooting percentages, but they had to have made between 18-20 3's, and they made them at a very high clip.

The game was also notable because only 3 total fouls were called in the 2nd half.  I remember looking up at the scoreboard when the bench players came in for both teams with about 3 minutes left and seeing a 1 and a 2 under team fouls on the scoreboard.  Not even sure which team had 2 and which had 1, but I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I am really rooting for Scottsburg to continue advancing, because I think they have the best chance to take out North Daviess in the South for 3A.  The whole 'playing up' a class that North Daviess pulled to avoid Linton and Brownstown in 2A leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  High School sports should not be like that.

Scottsburg is a load man. They beat Madison 68-34(IIRC) in the first sectional game Wednesday, finishing 11-22 from deep. Their core group of juniors should have them in contention for the next year as well. They take good shots and move the ball well. Defensively they’re not great, but they’re solid. If they used their big man, Zellers a little bit better, they could be even better. I couldn’t tell you how many times he caught it in the paint both times he played Madison, only to kick it out to the perimeter.

Chris Holtmann at OSU might have a bit of a hot seat...

I'd take Okpara, Thornton, and Sensabaugh 🙂

Hearing Sensabaugh is a first rounder… I’d say he’s gone, if I read that correctly. I like the other two, although if it happens, I’m sure they’ll wait to see who replaces him.

  10. Does anyone know of any up and coming potential coaching changes to look out for? Perhaps that’s another gray area where we could possibly pull a couple nice pieces away. I’m not positive right at the moment, but a lot of the guys prior to this season believed to be squarely on the hot seat, have had decent seasons in terms of maintaining their position. I know there’s a lot of smoke around Cal and Texas, which would leave some big time incoming freshman with questions, but let’s be honest… that buyout is way too big, unless Texas were going to pay up. I don’t see the UK brass letting him go anywhere with the group he’s got coming in next year. However, if he were to fail next season with that talented class, I’d say that their marriage would be over. Failing would be not getting to an elite eight, imo. I’m getting away from myself though…

  11. I’m not if there isn’t already a transfer portal thread, but I couldn’t find it if there is. Perhaps we can pin one here? Considering the fluidity and ever evolving roster moves in the current landscape of college basketball, I think it would be appropriate. Anyway, I was scrolling on Twitter earlier and saw this tweet from one of our guys, and it got me thinking… not necessarily of this particular tweet, but who do we think would be a nice, legitimate addition to this team next season? I feel like there will be more than a few spots that will open up due to graduation, going pro and just moving on to chase opportunities elsewhere.

  12. The Hanover SW 2A sectional will be fun to watch. I’m going tomorrow to watch the semi finals, but really looking forward to watching the Brownstown vs Providence game. My Cubs were pummeled by Scottsburg last night at the Charlestown 3A sectional.

Scottsburg could be a force if they learn to use the Zellers kid better in the post. I couldn’t tell you how many times he caught the ball down low, and passed it without looking at the basket. They aren’t very deep… but if they can avoid getting into foul trouble they could potentially make some noise.

Madison is super young. My son is part of the sophomore class that should be more competitive next year. They’ve lost a lot of transfers over the past few years, primarily due to(imo) politics/coaching changes. So they basically put a great JV team up against varsity teams all season long.  Hopefully we’ll see some stability in the coming years… maybe not how it was when I was there, but then again, we had almost 400 more students enrolled back then.

  13. Ok, this is pathetic. We can’t play any worse than we are now… can we? I really think Kopp has played well recently, but he’s getting his lunch money stolen tonight. We need a lot of energy, and at this point, it might be beneficial to try to find a spark off the bench.
