  1. As for Love, lots of rumors out there… almost posted a couple of days back, and he’s why I started the NIL-IU post. It’s now becoming quite public that he’s for hire, basically, and favors IU for a number of reason. NIL is a primary factor on why, and I understand. That being said, I believe that’s who most believe the big splash was going to be. If Woody can get Love and X to gel, that could be an exciting/explosive  backcourt next season.

Yeah... especially since JHS wasn't projected as a one and done coming in, at least not as a sure thing one and done.

One key benefactor that catapulted JHS to be a 1&D is having a senior All American. There’s no question that he’s talented, but having TJD in a pro style offense obviously helped showcase his abilities. I just don’t think JHS could’ve done as well with Malik in one season… and I’m sure that you agree.

Edit: All I’m saying is that we need the right pieces for any seed to mature. Roster makeup is paramount, especially with these young five stars looking to go to the league after year one.

So Jalen may be considering coming back? And Caleb love just wants to get paid as much money as possible.  Doesn't really sound like a team player at all

I’m not really going out on a limb when I say this, but I’m guessing JHS coming back is less than 1%…. not saying it won’t happen, but rather that it doesn’t make sense for him.

    Is Timberlake off the board?

I’m not sure. I saw where UNC, who was believed to be the top spot by some, have accepted a similar player yesterday. Not saying that it’s still not likely, just that they took one player who brings the same thing playing style.

I doubt that many impact players are entering the portal at this point without kicking the tires on potential landing spots ahead of time. So the staff probably has a pretty good idea who is likely to be available, what the interest level in IU would be, etc. Now sure, there will probably be some surprises. But it's also a game of musical chairs, so there is a real risk for a program in waiting too long to sign guys who are ready to commit.

A lot of tough conversations are being had right now with some guys who have been productive, but haven’t put their names in the portal yet. While I agree that you can’t wait to fill your roster, I think it’s important that we leave a spot or two open, knowing that we’re good with what we have. I’m not one to bring up Knight often, because I know that those days are long gone. That being said, I really loved the fact that he would often leave a scholarship or two available to reward walk-on guys paying their way, or late additions. He didn’t always do that, but he I remember several instances that he did. I have full faith in the staff doing what’s best, but it’s fun to speculate.

  6. As far as the portal is concerned, I hope our staff is going after production, especially the one year guys. It looks as if we’re in on a lot of players, but I think that there are still some big fish who haven’t entered the portal yet. Just hope we don’t decide on portal guys too quickly.

I have a bunch of buddies that are UNC fans. They are all ecstatic that Love is transferring.

Yeah, my dad’s entire family are Tar Heel fans and dad played college ball down there as well, but they all have mixed feelings on him. The talent is obviously there, just worry about how everyone would fit. That’s always going to be the determining factor.

They have been saying over and obver that Flory is coming back, even said it to the head coach and he didn't correct them.  Maybe something changed.  I heard they were seeking a waiver to allow him to stay in kokomo.   Anyone know anything.

I guess that I’m not in the know on this situation… but why wouldn’t he?

Don't really think he would. He'd be replacing the all-time rebounder in IU history, and TJD didn't solve those problems. Our rebounding issues weren't really at the 4-5, we lacked length and athleticism at the guard and wings spots.

Kopp, JHS, Galloway and Bates are where we really got killed in terms of rebounding. We need more length and athleticism at those spots.

100% agree - we never crashed the boards… like ever. We didn’t rebound well at all between the 1-3.

  10. If there’s another thread for this somewhere… mods feel free to delete. I feel like this directly impacts recruiting both HS and portal athletes alike.

    I have questions:

    1. Does anyone have any clue how much any of our guys are making? I’ve seen where TJD has made north of $750k, but not any breakdowns on him, or anyone else for that matter.

    2. Does Adidas pay any college athletes currently, because I’ve heard that they’re going to be involved with the NIL. I just don’t know when, or if they already are.

    3. I always see a list by Forbes(among other sites) ranking IUBB as one of the most wealthy and lucrative programs in the country. I read an article from ESPN(I know..) before the NIL was established, stating that this would kill the small/mid major programs and separate the blue bloods(including Indiana) from the rest of the P5 programs. I guess we’re not seeing the benefits from this yet?

Perhaps I’m still a little pessimistic about it all… and still a purest from a college ball perspective, but I guess I’m just trying to understand where we stand as far as what we can offer from an NIL standpoint, that schools outside of UNC, Duke, KU, UCLA, UK etc.?

  11. I admittedly haven’t taken a close look at what the rest of the Big Ten has coming in… but from what we know, are there any strong classes coming in? Will the Big be down next year? Can we compete with a strong haul from the portal before the next big class gets to Bloomington? I don’t expect big things, but think that there’s an opportunity to build heading into the following season. If we can be competitive, or in the top half, I’d like to think that we’d be setting ourselves up for a strong 24-25 season.

    Sorry if already posted elsewhere:

Rick Pitino is telling most St. Johns players to leave because he doesn't want them.  Maybe all but one to go.   He will recruit the transfer portal hard.

This is a GREAT experiment.  Woodson and staff have a 2 year head start on Pitino.  Both teams need up to 4 new starters, plus benches.

Who will recruit better between now and next season?

    https://www.foxnews.com/sports/rick-pitino-most-st-johns-players-wont-be-on-team-next-season

Pitino has a massive track record on being able to come in and rejuvenate a program. I’d be willing to bet that there’s a lot of shady things go down over the next 6 months for the Red Storm.

    Very good player

Similar to MR. If MR can develop his 3pt shot it might work playing together. I too would like to see get a 6”10 athletic big guy to defend the rim and rebound. Big question is can MR handle guarding on the perimeter and guarding quicker players. If he does that and gets a 3pt shot he can play with another big guy or a smaller athletic stretch 4. That could give us some versatility. I also think Banks is a guy that could play some 4 if you need to match up and small.

I like Banks versatility. He could be huge for us next season.
