I'll add that the officiating was truly pathetic. Not a chance that was a flagrant on Xavier, nor was it goaltending on Ware. But both got called/reviewed because the Iowa bench asked for it. Just like the Wisconsin and Illinois games. Yet the undercut that led to Xavier's injury wasn't reviewed at all. It's clear there's a hierarchy in this conference, and Woodson is getting the short end of that sick.

You thought the officiating was poor? That was the best officiated game I’ve seen in the Big10 this year IMO. Who cares that they reviewed X’s foul, it WAS intentional, but they got it right. He could have actually just gone for the ball to try to steal it instead of blatantly fouling, which made it look awkward. And I thought the ball was coming down when Ware blocked it. He does that A LOT by the way…. interested to know how many goaltendings he has this year.

Enjoyed the style of play tonight much more than usual. Great effort on D for the most part. My only two complaints, FREE THROWS!!! and I’ll never understand why you even allow Sandfort to catch the ball. Guy was feeling it and there were multiple moments where our guys weren’t even looking at him or ready to guard him.

I'm at a conference this week so not sure when/if I'll get to watch, but really eager to see/read about what changes this game. Between our historical performances against Iowa and how this season is playing out, I expect to see something new to our approach tonight. I mean we have to, right?

    Any word on Ware?

You “EXPECT” change, or are hoping for it? 😂

You realize he’s likely fouled (many times without it being called) well before he makes his post move right? And he’s allowed to create space when he’s making his post move. You think every time he posts up it’s an offensive foul? Lol

He’s not allowed to create space that is already taken.

I was at that game with my parents and my sister's fiancee that was his first IU game bad one to go see.

I was there as well. I think I’m part of the problem. Was also at the Purdue RMK game. Think we’ve lost 4 of the 5 home games I’ve attended in the last five years. Will be at the Wiscy game this year, so anybody expecting a win may need to think twice. 😬

Which is kind of my point.  Place the blame on a disappointing season on something other than the player who is trying to put the team on their back.  To me, and I know he is not perfect, but to pile on Malik for not passing the ball out of the post is ludicrous.  A Mt. Rushmore of post players in Indiana basketball history had to do the same thing when they did not have the horses around them to do otherwise.

I don’t think MR subconsciously decides he isn’t passing it bc other guys can’t shoot. I think he just tucks his head and is determined to shoot and only passes it if he simply can’t get a shot off, which has also led to a high turnover rate for him. I get what you’re saying, but he’s essentially saying, the hell with being a good teammate and playing the right way, I’m just going to duck my head and shoot it every time and show everybody I’m not the problem. He’s likely not subconsciously saying that to himself either, but that’s what it looks like. My opinion MAY be slightly different IF I felt like he worked hard on the defensive end and rebounding the basketball.

The narrative of the board was that we would not compete today.

There were multiple posters that thought we would get beat by more than the spread that the betting books had.

Yeah, we lost. Yeah, making the tournament looks like a long shot.

I thought that this team showed a lot of fight today.. Not perfect by a long shot, but definitely they could hold their heads high for the effort they gave. Especially since our best player was not on the floor.

It is so easy to pile on and beat down these guys and the coaches. It’s so easy to join the crowd.

Would love if this forum might try to get behind these guys.

No offense, but 12-22 on FTs and giving up 13 offensive rebounds doesn’t scream a lot of effort. You believe they are putting in the effort in practice shooting FTs and blocking out? Or outside of practice when it comes to FTs? I didn’t post during the game thread and wasn’t planning on posting in this thread bc I didn’t want to “pile on” with the negative comments. But which part are we supposed to be getting behind? Just so I know how to be a better fan.

15 seems like an odd number to go with. I would think it would be easier with an even number of teams

16 seems like the right answer, but with 15 you’re rewarding the regular season champ with a bye. So I get it. But I’m sure there’s more to it than that….

I agree with this. I’ll say though, Dolson needs to be sold on those changes that are coming.

If Woody can’t tell Dolson what is changing, then we shouldn’t expect better results and Woody needs to be fired this year.

Is Dolson basketball savvy enough to know if he’s being fed crap?

I think we go one more year with some assumptions.   Let Woody get 3 veteran guards in the portal who can shoot and defend, and let’s change our approach on the court.  Let’s get the three ball going and get perimeter defense (both on the shot and the drive) drastically improved.   Giving up 91 points in a Big Ten game is absurd.   Maybe 1-2 assistants get swapped out.   No more ejections.  Get the 2025 class lined up.  Then hopefully we are back on track.

If there’s not a drastic change with style of play and success, then next year all bets will be off.

I’m down on CMW. This year has been unacceptable in my book, but I think he’s earned one more year 😬 and I hope he turns the ship around. But I don’t think it happens without schematic changes and better recruiting quickly. I’m wondering if he’s just too stubborn to change anything though, which in that case I expect most of us to rightfully be ready to make a change.

So I get the point that the head to chest was irritating and led to the elbow, but I don’t really know what you call on him there.

If CJ doesn’t elbow him it’s nothing, right? If CJ gets upset and makes a stink to the refs and they go review it, it’s still nothing, right? And we are probably laughing that CJ got so upset about it.

It was a live ball but away from the play, stationary players are going to lean on each other, grab each other, talk crap, etc and 99.999% of the time there won’t be a reaction like CJ’s.

I don’t know man. I don’t think it’s okay to just lean in and head butt somebody in the chest. It wasn’t a gentle leaning in and he touched him. He threw his head forward, definitely on purpose. I think you T the Wiscy kid up and toss CJ for the elbow. Nobody shoots, possession doesn’t change.

Agree with Woodson somewhat on this. CJ was an idiot for reacting and deserved to be ejected IMO, but the Wisconsin punk should have at least gotten T’d up for the head to the chest, bc it WAS intentional. My question, what the hell are the officials looking at to not reprimand the Wisconsin kid? Are those officials THAT ignorant and blind? That’s frustrating when you have replay and it’s right in front of your face and you still don’t get it right. Disclaimer: This had no impact on the outcome of the game.

Yeah, I feel bad for Malik. He's trying to be a leader and he's become the one reliable go to guy. But I can see why he sometimes forces things because he can't trust his teammates to make a play.

I don’t. Malik doesn’t work hard on the boards or on defense most of the time. So I can’t feel bad for him.

Like it or not, there’s zero chance CMW gets fired this year unless we go winless for the rest of the season, and that’s not happening.

The crazy thing is outside of at Illinois and at Purdue, every other game the rest of the way is winnable. Speaks to how bad the Big10 is this year. Certainly not saying we should win them all, and definitely not saying I think we will, because we’ve been bad and they’ve given us no reason to believe they can. But purely looking at the strength of what we have left on our schedule along with where they are….. CMW has a chance to somewhat salvage this miserable season to the point where they could have some confidence going into the Big10 tournament.

Yeah, no doubt. Just saying that the fans on here have not done a good job. Myself included

We’re still showing up. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Might be doing a lot of complaining right now, but we’re still here.

Agree 100% on Matta.  I can see Fife rubbing someone the wrong way.  But, Woodson not letting Matta do what Matta was brought into do, was a huge red flag, and not enough people questioned it at the time.  I'm fairly certain that Matta had IU's best interest in mind during his time here.  A great resource wasted.

This has all made me believe that maybe Fife wasn’t the issue.

My earlier quote and question about the odds was out of ignorance.  I don't gamble and never learned what all the +- mean when it comes to betting.  Sorry if it was an ignorant post.

No, didn’t see anything as ignorant, and certainly didn’t mean to insinuate the such.

I will say I like our chances against IL, much more than Wiscy. If our chance to win against Wiconsin, per Kenpom, is 10%, then I'd put our chance to win against IL in the 30's.

Neither is very good or likely to happen, but it is entertaining seeing the optimism of some. And please don’t take offense to that because I’m the opposite and need a more balanced perception sometimes that makes me think “maybe it could happen”. Nah, who am I fooling? 😂
