When all this is done I just hope the days of us playing 2 bigs that can’t shoot are over. I don’t really want the Virginia big and Malik playing together unless Malik develops into a 4 that can shoot better. We need to be more athletic and versatile at 4 spot. Give me a Ledlum or Banks or Battle there.

29 points off offensive rebounds to a team half our size!! What a joke. With a trip to the sweet 16 and your career on the line and we can’t rebiund the dang ball… embarrassing effort

Barnhizer to IU?

I was at game. Didn’t hear anybody booing.. just lots of groaning about Race playing to much.. he looks hobbled out there… Malik needs more time as long as he stays out foul trouble.. he’s improved a lot on defensive side.
-
Too many minutes for Race.. tricky situation now with JG being back.. how’s Woodson manage that? Banks been playing really well too.

I thought Cincinnati hired his uncle or something

Gotta give Mike Woodson a ton of credit, IU has the 16th ranked adjO on KenPom. We're shooting over 50% from the field and 37.7% from 3pt range as a team.
Basically without X as well

That's a complete lie. It's W/Ls only. Lets not pretend like it's anything different. It's output based and that is the extent of it. If we lose... you guys criticize Woodson into oblivion. If we win..... crickets. Hell some that criticize him don't come to the board unless we DO lose. Gross.
Been some adjustments made wether that came from players just not following game plan or the staff themselves but nice to see us sticking with shooters and not over helping.. make them make tough two’s and allow TJD to protect rim.. I’ve also saw us go underneath some ball screens on non shooters and keep them out the lane which is nice to see instead of chasing those guys over the top and allowing them to get in lane like number 3 from Kansas..Now obviously you go over top every ball screen on shooter like Walker.

Geronimo 13pts 8rb’s… hit couple big jumpers in first half! Love to see him getting back to where he was at end last year.

Brian Evans was saying that we could go 9 deep and NW still wouldn’t have a higher ranked player than us.
And yes, rankings aren't the end all, be all. Sure, they’ll miss on some players (Lander a perfect example), but they generally are a pretty good barometer of talent. We can make fun of Kentucky and Cal for doing little with a lot, but when it comes to us it’s like: “hold on we can’t go there.” We can say the B1G hasn’t won a NC in 20 years because B1G teams don’t get those highly ranked players, but when it comes to us it’s like: “that insinuation is just unreasonable.”
Highly ranked players (depth with top 100 guys) should be a good thing. If the talent doesn’t result in wins, it’s either a lack of development or not getting the right players to fit your system. The troubling thing since last year is: I don’t know what Woody’s system is. So I can’t assess if we even have the right players. Can anybody define our system or what our identity is? Do the players know? Does Woody know?
Agreed

Oh man. My Twitter feed….
Sometimes I wonder if CMW is watching the same game as the fans. Is he not telling the players they are over-helping? Are they not listening? Either way it’s a problem. Is this really a hard adjustment to make?
As many have said. It’s not the losses. It’s not that black and white. It’s that we look like a team that hasn’t played D1 basketball before. These are just basic defensive principles. It’s not making lemonade out of lemons. It’s just squeezing out the juice.
But according to some it’s the players fault.. nothing to do with Woodson haha.. we just aren’t skilled enough to compete with northwestern and Penn state hahahaa

For those of you who haven't seen BSU play, Lewis has them playing very well. Great defense, good offense and he's using somebody else's roster that wasn't impressive last year.
Want somebody with toughness and grit? (good traits IMO), knows Xs & Os?
He should at least be a candidate in the mix to replace Woody. (You can say he doesn't have the experience, but at this point how could it be worse?
I wanted Lewis over Fife

This season has very quickly gone completely off the rails… Woodson better start coaching real fast.

What's weak is fans who think it's okay to impugn the character and integrity of college kids because they had the audacity to lose a game fans wanted them to win.
Then get off social media.. it comes with the territory of playing at a place like IU.. your not going to make the criticism stop.. don’t lose to Northwestern at home

Woodson get this program under control… incredibly stupid.. after you lose to Northwestern at home I wouldn’t be getting on social media replying to anything.. TJD started this mess

I understand where you are coming from. Yes, injuries make us weaker on defense. My argument is that it shouldn’t make us THAT weak. X and Race being out doesn’t excuse effort and readiness. Other that CJ Gunn on a few possessions I don’t remember seeing any real pressure on the ball. Are we just going to wait until X and Race comes back before we start playing with any urgency? Without a game plan adapted to the players we have available?
And if we are going to want to win, we will need to be comfortable in zone for longer stretches. Why did Woody go away from it when it was working yesterday? Not only are we going to be lacking size with the 4, that will require us to zone, but we are going to have to save JHS. The guy played 35 minutes last night and has to carry the offense along with TJD. Not only is a tough ask Jalen to guard the opposing teams best guard, but we can’t put him in position to get in foul trouble. If Gallo has to run the point for long stretches we’re done. (No shade on Gallo, it’s not his natural position).
Last night I listened to Assembly Call before I went to bed and one of the things brought up was that it looked like we weren’t prepared. It was almost like this team watched no tape on NW. They didn’t seem to know what they were running on offense. They didn’t seem to know that Buie anticipates passes and jumps the lane. They looked lost on defense.
Even before X and Race went out, the writing was on the wall. This is just not a well coached team. We are fundamentally shallow. For the size advantage we had, our rebounding was piss poor. We STILL can’t hit free throws. Our passing is lazy.
When we play horrible on defense due to lack of effort, woody says: it’s because of the injuries. When we play horrible offense because we are one dimensional, woody says: our shots aren't’ going in. What message does this send to the team when he excuses their lack of execution and effort on ‘bad luck’. When talking about Kopp, he says that Kopp has to shoot it more, but he doesn’t run any plays for Kopp. It’s like he thinks Kopp is an NBA player who can get his own shots. Kopp is a good player and can be very useful, but he can’t create for himself.
Sorry for the long rant, but Woody has a lot to prove in my opinion. His hand is being forced with these injuries. He’s going to have to show that he can adapt. He’s going to have to get his arms wrapped around this team. We will lose some games that we had in the win column (I accept that), but losing to NW at home is not acceptable.
Good post.. I see a lot the same things… lots of fundamentals lacking on both sides of the ball

Life in the BIG East.. 2 of the teams go to the playoff and another team wins the Rose Bowl… yikes.. Maryland, Rutgers, and IU basically have a ceiling of 9 wins over their head every year if they go perfect in every other game.
-
Obviously not going to win with the amount of turnovers we had but I thought continuing to go over the top on ball screens with number 3 was a mistake because he lived in the lane and facilitated basically everything for them.. not sure why we didn’t just go underneath ball screens on him and keep him out the lane and make him shoot. He shot one 3 and it looked bad. Just my thoughts.
-
Nice game from Kopp.. giving us something off the dribble as well.. he keeps playing like this I’ll have no complaints

Who’s the guy that sits right next to coach Woodson every game but isn’t an assistant?

Wait you want Geronimo at the 3? My brother in christ he can hardly dribble.
Ya I know Kopp is a great ball handler and playmaker off the bounce

You mean when I pointed out the OL was a big problem, as well? Man.. that isn't that hard to see.
Neither is this rotation stuff.
Been pretty adamant on my thoughts about Archie. Crazy talk.
Your kind of like the lamestream media.. if you ask any questions or have concerns over the decision the leaders make you get bashed.
there’s plenty Woodson has done right but he isn’t untouchable and perfect

Ya my overall point was If Shedrick commits I’m good with it because it gives us rim protection we don’t have with Malik.. but dang not sure Malik, Shedrick, and Sparks would be happy splitting all that time at the 5 unless there was some sort of plan to play them together some which I’m not a huge fan of unless Malik can develop into more of a 4 that can play on perimeter more and guard the perimeter better..not a huge fan of playing those guys together…would rather have a Ledlum, Banks, or Battle at the 4… way better shot making, play making, and versatility on defense.
