Through the week they've never had games on CBS, right?

    Fox for sure.

But, this will literally force people to get Peacock. Kind of lame, I get it for free, not sure I understand the point of it.

It should definitely be on a national stage and network like Duke-UNC…shame IU misses out on on a chance to promote the school with a great environment on national stage…I’m ticked

I know it was trash time but Sorsby was throwing the ball with a lot more accuracy. Tayven misses so many open throws. I was hoping to see that improve over time; like in the 2nd half of the Louisville game TJ seemed dialed in but the inconsistency has continued since then.

I was never going to say anything but I thought Sorsby was better this whole time…he’s a littler quicker and more accurate. I thought it wasn’t fair to him that TJ got to start against ISU…I mean I could of looked good against them…he didn’t really earn to start because ISU is AWFUL it basically proves nothing playing against them…I think the name and the 4 star recruit got him the starting spot. He has talent clearly and it is close but I liked Sorsby a little better. Not that it will make much of difference with this staff

The issue is the coach that is hiring the assistants. When it comes to leadership and energy etc Coach Allen seems like a fine man….but he has put together perhaps the worst staff I think I’ve ever seen….and those are the ones responsible day in and day out to grow these kids. Between the portal and what talent we brought in we have as good of talent as IU has had in many years…and yet the product on the field is perhaps worse than ever. What does that tell us? No one coaches drops, missed reads, missed tackles, missed assignments, and lack of energy…but well actually that IS a sign of coaching.

I basically agree but I’ve wanted Allen to work because he isn’t leaving if we become good…any other coach is probably just going to use us as a stepping stone and then we start over

Very well said. Escapability and a run threat is all we need.

You guys are spot on…not sure why we went away from throwing Lucas the ball in first half…they couldn’t stop him…we are really effective when we go with 2 backs him and Henderson at same time…it really doesn’t seem all that difficult. Not sure how Bell doesn’t understand this…he did have some good calls in 2nd half though.

I don't agree with, but understand, the ultra-conservative play calling against OSU. But for the love of Barry Switzer, can we please stop running the option! It fools no one, puts Tayven at risk,  and gets stuffed almost every time (spoiler alert; qb is keeping because the rb is 2 feet away from him and one defender can take both players). Even the qb draws that aren't usually big gainers serve a purpose to occupy a defender to spy.

Throw the ball to our big receivers and tight end, motion Lucas all over the field, and throw swing passes and wheel routes to Henderson. Mix in Turner for runs between the tackles. Play Lucas and Henderson together more to create mismatches. Just please, NO MORE OPTION!

Agree 100 percent…Jackson is to slow for the option to truly work..he isn’t a big enough threat to turn it up field and doesn’t have the speed to do it

It’s the same Bell as week one.  Solid.  Played the situation he had.   Louisville and Maryland will be the barometers.

If we played OSU differently out of the chute, we lose 47-3.  He kept us in the game in case we made a play to score with a breakaway, a pick 6, PR.  Everyone knows that’s a slight chance but the only chance we had.  He kept that open.  This week, he played to the situation.

If we don’t play the situation right against Maryland and Louisville I will bring the pitchfork out with you guys.  I don’t expect to.

I have always considered this to be a developmental year and so far, so good on how they have handled the QBs.  Groom them so we can go forward after this year.  I like both of them and I’m not just saying that to blindly cheer.   I never liked Bazelak as an example.  Weak.

I disagree and Tom Allen and Walt Bell both said they were to conservative week 1

  7. Good job Bell…much improved…we threw the ball to our RB’s out the backfield which was awesome got some big plays off that…got Lucas the ball in space more out on perimeter…mixed in a few WR screens on outside..took a few shots downfield.

Now lets not throw 25 back shoulder/fade balls in the end zone next game…maybe limit that to a couple. holy smokes we never connected on a single one… need a little more creativity down inside the 20 in the future…would like to see a 2 back usage a little more with Lucas in the slot but much improved from week 1

I do want to see some more screens. Especially to McCulley and Perry.

Ya and I think getting Lucas Matched up with a linebacker coming out the backfield and getting him the ball is ideal…Colorado’s Edwards had a couple touchdowns doing that exact thing and a few other top teams did a great job getting their RB’s matched up with LB in man coverage/ dumping it down to em and letting them go and don’t think they are as dynamic as Lucas….he’s gotta have the ball on perimeter going forward or in concepts like that in main coverage as a pass catcher out the backfield…no one can tackle him in open field

Well... love wheel routes out of the backfield, big fan... but you do have to have some longer protection, for that route, and you do have to scheme it and the defense has to respect your first action to create the mismatch/openness of the wheel route to begin with, I am not sure that was ever there with OSU on Saturday. I will guarantee we have plenty of ways to use Lucas more and more in the offense. I just didn't think it was all going to be Week 1, especially once he got dinged up.

It wasn't just "handoff up the middle", though. It's part of the entire concept, they have to account for it, and when we are running true triple, they have way fewer bodies committed to Lucas (or the dive) than regular teams, running regular offense do.

Lucas wasn't getting outside of OSU on Saturday, I thought their defense made that pretty clear.. next best option, see if you can pop one with scheme, etc. And personally, I think handing the ball to Lucas, at any point during the game, going ANY direction is crazy scary for the defense.

If we have this same look, the same VERY vanilla-ish feel to our offense against UL... then, to me, that would be the time to be pretty pissed, the way it stands now.... and the context of the game---- field position, Lucas a little dinged up, 2 insanely inexperienced QBs, and playing OSU Week 1... doesn't seem like the time to be all that upset. That is just my opinion though.

I thought we looked better and more of a sustainable base to our offense than we have had. Now, my expectations were crazy low coming into the year.... but, I think if we can stay healthy (massive if)... I do think this crew can win 6 games.

I agree mostly I was disappointed we didn’t get him the ball a single time on the Perimeter outside of the option and there’s ways to that without a ton of risk as I’ve mentioned…will see if that was just because it was week 1 and Ohio state or if Bell is that bad.

    Walt Bell did NOT....

False start on third and 1, force Tayven to run the wrong way on a beautiful draw play, or tell Coby to not turn up in time on a crosser that should have resulted in a 1st.

3 massive plays that had zero to do with coaching and everything to do with execution.

The play calling was fine, when you take all factors into account.

Your points are correct but how about putting Lucas in motion and getting him the ball on the perimeter? Running a screen? Throwing the ball to him out the back field on a wheel route or on the perimeter where a linebacker has to cover him or put him in the slot and try covering him in a quick slant or side out??? I didn’t see any of that…and none of that is taking a big risk it’s getting your most dynamic playmaker the ball where he can make plays not just a handoff up the middle…that’s elementary level

Best post yet. Our offense, which didn’t look great, is being blasted because it didn’t score more against possibly and potentially, one of the top 3 defenses in the nation? I saw no turnovers, the QB’s had better protection and was able to move up and down the field at times. We just couldn’t finish drives. Last year, this game would have been 60-0.   JMO. Go IU!

I think everyone understands that we aren’t and shouldnt throw the ball 30 plus times…it’s the scheme and the creativity to get our best skill players the ball like Lucas in space that is lacking…you can have better creativity without taking a ton of risk. Running Lucas up the middle 5-10 times is not where he needs the ball..he needs to the ball on the perimeter where basically no one can tackle him 1 on 1…it really shouldn’t be that hard that’s the frustrating part.

We did nothing to get Jaylin Lucas the ball in space, which we heard was an emphasis all off-season, and nothing to get either QB comfortable. We threw the ball 5 times in the first half and ran it 22 times. That’s about as conservative as you can be. Bell isn’t good enough. He’s been mediocre every where he’s been. This team has talent on both sides of the ball and I hope we figure it out offensively because we can win some games if we do, it’s just hard to have faith in Walt Bell. This game isn’t the start of the concerns.

    Bell gotta go…he’s pathetic

That’s the main positive. Defense was impressive. We can win 6 games, but Walt Bell is going to have to improve. Least innovative offense I have ever seen. We’re in this game today with a competent OC.

Bell is terrible…we never got Lucas the ball in space or used him in the slot for 1 on 1’s…ran him up the middle instead…even the announcers go “ interesting to run 170 pound back up the middle”

A lot of new transfers with potential and no idea what we get from QB, as others have stated.  Beat ISU and Akron, then need to find three more wins.  Frankly at this point I expect that at a minimum after all this time with CTA.  I think Bell is terrible and he really needs to sell the fanbase (and players) on what he can do.  I’m going with 5 because to me that should be the bare minimum.  Do I expect it, probably not, but to me no reason they shouldn’t win 5.

Not sold on Bell either…but I’ll give him the pass last year on the fact that our O line was absolutely horrendous…
