  1. In all my years of playing basketball, I can count on one hand the number of times the whistle against me was legitimate, but man, that Omuroye kid is whining about some clear fouls.
  2. We can compensate for our lack of shooting with transition offense, and dribble penetration in the half court. Without JHS those are harder, and our defense, while good, isn't creating the runouts. Hopefully we find a way to get TJD some points. I wouldn't mind seeing Gunn get some run. I think it was the right call to not play him against UNC, but we need his skillset even if he isn't the best overall player.
  3. I feel like it's a different breed of turnover as well. Under Archie (and I think Crean, too) it seemed like at least half our turnovers were just perimeter passes, where, even if the pass went through, our next guy would just be stuck holding the ball with no where to go. Now, our turnovers seem to be threaded needles in the paint or lob passes, where if the pass makes it through we have an easy bucket. The announcer last night was referring to bad shots as being like turnovers. I almost think of some turnovers as the flip: as missed shots, where if they go through we have points and if they don't the other team has the ball but in a spot where a run-out is unlikely. It seems like most of our turnovers this year are like that. They're aggressive on our part, not necessarily the defense's part.
  4. Even when they were fouling on purpose, it took until their third attempt before it was actually called. Whereas Geronimo can't even be in the vicinity of the other team without getting whistled.
  5. Everyone, including the staff, and I imagine btwonqb, saw some shortcomings in them. What you are failing to realize is that we didn't have better options. Who was going to start instead? Galloway, who spent half the season hurt and couldn't shoot? Bates, who has shown even a year later that he hasn't adjusted to the college game? Leal, who a year later still isn't seeing time? Geronimo, who can't dribble or guard the perimeter? Most fans can see flaws in the guys on the court. Some just don't seem to realize that the guys not on the floor have any greater flaws.
  6. Does anyone know if the replay is going to be on BigTen+, it seems like it should be, but I can't find it on their unnavigable site. People often post youtube links to replays - is there one for this one?
  7. TAs are the perfect analogy. Paying a student to teach a class in no way endangers a school's tax status. Paying a student to play basketball would similarly have no affect.
  8. I'm always surprised by the mood of the board on this and related topics. I would assume that capitalism is pretty highly regarded by posters here. I would further assume that regulation of that capitalism is generally disfavored. Yet, for some reason the prevailing attitude is that basketball players who generate revenue shouldn't be able to receive payment from schools that want to pay them. So capitalism should not only be regulated, but flat out proscribed. I think the unavoidable end-state of the current NIL landscape is one way or another (eg. encouraging donations) schools will funnel money to players so there is a consistent "salary" for players. If Dickinson et al. succeed in getting money directly from schools, it's really just one less layer of bureaucracy and doesn't seem to impact the end result one way or the other. I don't think it's going to be some great windfall for them over the NIL, but it probably simplifies things and gives coaches more control of their programs.
  9. You are confused. This thread is for 40 year old movies and people who have puns as names.
  10. I vaguely remembered this, but read it completely differently than you did. I just took the time to re-watch and am more convinced that your take is off the mark. He got taken out at the 13:44 mark of the second half, and it seemed clear that he saw the new guy coming on but wasn't sure he was the one coming off. He merely pointed to himself and asked. You can't hear anything he says, so certainly that is a matter of interpretation and I can't say for sure that yours is wrong. But, the celebration came a bit later on the Kopp 3, and while you're right, the rest of the team jumped up for it, he was clearly sitting apart from the team talking to an assistant - because the coach told him to - and he gave a pretty vigorous clap. He didn't stop listening to the coach to jump up, but the coach kept talking right through the play and X kept listening. Quite unfair to criticize him for that.
  11. Why are we seeing a zoom in on the body rather than an angle that actually allows us to see whether a free throw goes in?
  12. It was a good look, but Reneau was hurried up on that first shot.
  13. That seems low to me, given how much production Morehead lost from last year.
  14. Leal saw most of his exhibition minutes with the walk-ons. There is no way he is going to be a rotation guy this year. I could see Gunn getting plenty of chances if we struggle shooting.
  15. Does anyone know how replays work on BTN+? I'm busy until 9 - will I be able to watch the game right away when it's over?
  16. I know it's 2 years vs 4, but I'm taking Zeller over Happ. If it wasn't for his NBA rings, is Draymond Green a 1st teamer? If it wasn't for Steph and Klay, he isn't even close to those rings.
  17. That does not gel with what I have seen today. To be clear, the first part is what I am talking about.
  18. Yea, Reneau and Duncomb are looking as good as anyone could have reasonably expected. Geronimo better step up if he wants time.
  19. Telling that Reneau started over him?
  20. Thus far, our freshmen are very much as advertised. Hood-Schifino is a feisty defender, uses his size well on both ends, finishes and shoots mid-range shots, but not great from deep. Reneau plays just the way Race said he does: methodical, and at his own pace with great foot-work.
  21. How bad do you have to be at your job to start showing a replay during live action?
  22. Can someone help me understand what I get from BTN+? Looking at our schedule here, https://www.insidethehall.com/2022-2023-indiana-basketball-schedule/, would I only be able to see the 4 games that specifically say BTN+? Not the other BTN games?
  23. Why so opposed? That seems to make sense to me. Make it a purely 2nd semester sport. You space it out so the NCAA has its marquee sports span the entire school year. You still get the tournament over before the NBA finishes, so the draft works out fine.
